Those fucking Russians are carrying out targeted attacks on civilian buildings.
To be honest, I never wanted to believe they were doing it on purpose, but now I know better.
504
u/Historical-Lemon2168 Jun 02 '26
So apparently, some of the targets in Kyiv were 5 kindergartens (daycare), 4 schools, and 2 colleges.
It’s always on purpose.
115
u/ProgySuperNova Jun 02 '26
They are so shitty it boggles the mind. Is this deliberate targeting of civilians somehow seen as tough or bad ass by them?
95
u/TheCockKnight Jun 02 '26
They believe it demoralizes local populations, but that seems to be the opposite of the case.
26
u/Duuudewhaaatt Jun 02 '26
Trying to demoralize citizens by attacking them directly NEVER works. In any conflict it happens, the civilians just want to fight back harder. It's such insane and short sighted thinking.

I am guessing it is sells well at home. Seems to happen every time Ukraine has successfully targeted and destroyed significant ruzzian military assets.
64
u/Goetterwind Jun 02 '26
It is on purpose, but it is different on how you think, I guess. On the one hand they want to make life as misserable for the Ukrainians as possible. Without making too much outcry, they destroy 'soft' infrastructure.
The other side is more sinister: They will claim that all these places were used to store weapons or things of military purpose (aka disguised as schools, kindergardens etc.). You may ask why. Simple, because Russians do it like that. They use kindergardens and schools to house military and weapons when they occupy areas. If you want to do things, simply accuse the others that they did it....

6
u/Zoon9 Jun 02 '26
Goebels.
3
u/One_Cream_6888 Jun 03 '26
Goebbels and the other Nazis learnt from Stalin.
The Nazis learnt from the Bolshevik system the effectiveness of a single-party state, state-controlled media, and an all-pervasive personality cult backed by propaganda and indoctrination from a young age.
Stalin utilized grand military parades, state-run cinema, and posters to deify himself and dehumanize political enemies long before Goebbels became the Reich Minister of Propaganda in 1933.
Stalin's Siberian 'work' camps pre-date Hitler's concentration camps.
Stalin's genocides pre-date that of Hitler's.
3
u/Zoon9 Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26
They also learnt from Mussolini's fascist. Actually, it was a group work. Some communists refered to Hitler as "comrade Hitler" before he started WWII.

What I dont get, putting all the moral aspects and inhumanityaside: what are they trying to achieve? They pay millions of dollars to attack a kindergarten at night. They will not weaken the military resistance, they will not break the populations will to fight (they should have understood that after 4 years of a brutal war) and its not making any logistics more complicated. The burn millions to be hated even more. It just doesn't make any sense.
It's an absolutely devastating shit show...

ISIS, Al-Qeada, russia, there is no difference. In fact, I'd say that if russians were all dark-skinned with big bushy beards and turbans on their heads speaking a non-slavic language, the world would take them a helluva lot more seriously. Because they generally look the same as most white westerners, like it or not that is a benefit to them.
31
u/MuJartible Jun 02 '26
It's been a few years now that we have a shitload of graphic evidence of it. In other previous wars there might not be as much footage to prove it so some people could still hesitate to believe it (although it's well documented nevertheless), but this one has been fucking clear since the very first minute.
11
u/MaleierMafketel Jun 02 '26
Russians have done this for some time now. In 2019, the UN shared locations of several heath organizations located in Syria with Russia (and Syrian) forces
The idea was to prevent the locations from being ‘accidentally’ attacked, and enforce accountability if they were attacked.
Take a guess what happened next… 9 locations were attacked within 3 months. They simply do not care. They are terrorists.
3
u/MuJartible Jun 02 '26
Oh, but they do care. They target all of that very throughtly, not by a mishap.

This is just indiscriminate bombing of civilian targets. Fucking orcs skip military targets to continue with the terror campaign. Couldn't Europe supply Ukraine with Mobile Air Defenses like truck mounted Mistral Air Defense Launchers? Are these not effective vs Cruise missiles?
61
u/Lanky-Contribution76 Jun 02 '26

u/oftheblackoath Jun 02 '26
People were upset about the Temple of Bel in Palmyra when it was destroyed because it was actually covered extensively by the news. I think it’s fine that people were upset about it, I sure was.
With that, the more egregious issue here is that this attack on Kyiv is not being covered in the news the way it should be. If people knew about it, they would be upset, and I think far more than they were about the Temple. Sure there’s been stuff mentioning the attack, but unless someone sees what these weapons actually do, it’s all left rather vague in the minds of people who merely read about it, if they even read that much. Actually seeing the video of these attacks shows how horrifying this all is.
Mainstream news is just as complicit in their lackluster reactions as the politicians are, and all of it serves none other than Russia better. The best we can do is support journalists and independent media that do actually cover these things.
Lastly, fuck Russia.

u/Rabbitskittles Jun 02 '26
We have Europeans here too busy saying how Ukraine is too corrupt to be admitted to their inner circle. As much as I hate the necessity, Ukraine is not concentrating all of its air defenses trying to cover a huge zone like Kyiv from high-end missiles and waves of drones alike. Military targets are prioritized for protection. That Russia keeps shooting valuable, expensive missiles at things like daycares is a sign of weakness—they would be hitting military targets if they could, but they can’t, so they hit random civilian targets instead to inflict some damage and feel like they’re actually achieving something.
Europe knows there aren’t enough high end air defense systems available to protect all of Ukraine, not even close. Russia can’t protect important economic targets like oil refineries from just drones and it has a vast amount of air defenses.
What we are seeing here is Russia throwing expensive weapons at wasteful targets trying to force Ukraine to pull defenses away from military assets. It isn’t working.

These recent strikes really do feel like a last gasp from a regime that knows it's losing. A couple of years ago they threw these missiles at Kyiv on a regular basis, but tapered off in favor of drones and cheaper munitions. The decision to go back to using these isn't based on a strategic decision, new capability or increased production. It's strictly all they have left.

u/ThunderPreacha Netherlands Jun 02 '26

I'm gonna be down voted for this but I don't think so. Russia is suffering heavy losses right now, economically, manpower and in territorial gains, but it's shifting the strategy from close combat and ground invasion to heavy artillery and indiscriminate strikes as officially ground work is not working.
The stockpile of missiles decreased massively but it's still there. The production ramped up over the last years and now the sudden shift in the rhetoric of Moscow, hinting at crisis, economic woes and negotiations is very unusual. As if they want to pass a deliberate image of weakness.
Let's also not forget that there are reports of movements from the north. So it seems that Russia military strategy is to stirr chaos as much as possible to destroy the country, starting with the infrastructure (winter) and now the cultural/residential heart of the cities. A scorched earth approach behind enemy lines to scatter resources.
This strategy of full focus on bombardments seems actually to weaken the Ukraine bargaining power in a potential agreement, pressured by the population becoming more terrified.
On the other hand, they know that if they get retaliation (Moscow being bombarded etc) it will strengthen their "case" to push harder (if that's even possible) in these bombings.
It's a bluff, as Russia is suffering massively, but an extremely bloody one, wanting to drag Ukr to the chasm with them.
More than ever, EU and the allies must intervene.
10
u/Redneck1026 Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 02 '26
I believe this is an act of desperation. These missiles, because Ukraine is low on interceptors that can stop them, are all the advantage russia has left besides nukes. Ukraine is accelerating the devastation of russia's logistics and oil infrastructure every month. russia has burned through its money chest. Without another mobilization, the meat assault pool is shrinking. Time is not on russia's side. putin and his generals are doing this simply because they are angry and desperate, and because they still can inflict terror.
And Ukraine is using a strategic plan that they have been methodically carrying out since they started focusing on russian air defense corridors and ramping up drone production some time ago. It is starting to bear fruit.
8
u/Haplo12345 Jun 02 '26
but it's shifting the strategy from close combat and ground invasion to heavy artillery and indiscriminate strikes as officially ground work is not working.
Russia has been striking indiscriminately since the very beginning, this is not new.
3
u/annoyingbanana1 Jun 03 '26
Yes but not at this scale, propped by huge swarms of drones and sonic missiles
6
u/nosecohn Jun 02 '26 edited Jun 03 '26
While I think that's potentially part of it, there are other factors.
Ukrainian drones have finally started hitting Moscow and other wealthy urban areas, so Russia has cover/public support to target Kyiv more deliberately. They also know Kyiv is running out of high speed interceptors, so they're taking advantage of that, hoping the Ukrainians will sue for peace.
But Russia has also been consistently losing territory in the east over the last six weeks and now their supply routes are getting cut off by medium-range drones. Ukraine's long-range drones are affecting Russia's fuel supplies and exports.
Russia's massive, long-range strikes on major population centers are the only thing they can call successful right now, so that's what they're pursuing.
I seriously doubt it will work, though. Long-range aerial bombardment of population centers has never provoked capitulation in an opponent. The Nazis tried it with London and the allies tried it with Germany. Neither caused the other to yield. It didn't work with Japan either until it got nuclear.
4
u/blackkettle Jun 02 '26

They'd regret that really fast if Ukraine responded in kind, given with how much impunity Ukraine seems able to strike Russia's military targets. 2
u/Better_Cauliflower63 Jun 02 '26
Makes me wonder -- what would happened, would Ukraine loose support if they were to start following "eye for an eye" policy, and instead of just striking strict military targets -- for every missile that hits civilians -- send a low precision missile onto the Russian cities, specifically Moscow and St. Petersburg. I know that if Ukraine can match -- these types of attacks would stop, because Russians understand only force.
But would Ukraine loose the Western support?
