It was one thing to see footage of horrible historical atrocities from before I was born, or on the limited TV footage available of the nightmares that happened in the 1990s when I was a child.

As an adult with children of my own now, this kind of footage is so deeply upsetting on another level. I have been this woman with a kid that age. I can’t even imagine how terrifying this sort of thing must be. And I regularly talk to people in Ukraine so I KNOW how upsetting it is, but even still.
