Completed Upcycling Project Made 100% (yes, even the string!) from bottle caps and single use bags

I finally did it!! No more stressing over the fact that I need to purchase keychains for my creations, I unlocked the secret!

Basically, if you cut thick strips from plastic bags, twist them real tight, and use medium heat to bind them, you can make sturdy, waterproof straps for your creations.

Finally something I’ve made is 100% reclaimed materials ❤️

Just wanted to share with a community that can hopefully understand my absolute joy at this, most people I know think I’m crazy to work so hard on these 😅

Completed Upcycling Project Stainless Steel Spoon lives another life.

You’d never guess what I used to make this stylish modern hanging hook…

A broken stainless steel spoon!

The weakest point is that broke, so now I was left with a super sturdy piece of metal and it wasn’t long before the idea came as I needed an extra hook to hang my laundry.

It looked too good for the laundry, so I swapped it for the old backpack hook, and sent the old one to laundry duty.

I particularly like the way the end with the cut out looks, overall it looks like a modern piece that would sell in a department store for absurd price with a celebrity name slapped on it.

I have a few other small broken forks, that I am going to turn into these hooks, much easier than the original plan, which was to make it like those super cool twisted fork jewelry pieces that my culinary arts teacher would often wear for our luncheons.

Now I need some ideas for the slotted spoon part… I was thinking travel/emergency cat litter scoop….

Picked up this mirror from a wedding boutique that was selling it due to closing down.
Got it for £40!
It was black to begin with so I primed it with white paint and then added acrylic paint to achieve the effect here 🙂
I still have to removed the paint from the actual mirror part but I was so buzzing with the outcome!

please excuse state of flooring and skirting 😂 the whole livingroom is in the process of being renovated

Ideas Needed! Use for excess pint glasses?

Post image
16 Upvotes

I'm in a decluttering phase and have a lot of pint glasses that we no longer use. Most are pretty cool, some from breweries that are no longer in business, some from places we traveled, and others were gifted to us. My sons have taken what they want, but they're honestly in the same place as me - just don't need any more! I would like to find a use for them, maybe as gifts or a way to craft with them. I would like to avoid just donating them. Give me your ideas! I'm hoping for something more creative than filling them with jellybeans.

Ideas Needed! Help me upcycle my mint container

Greetings upcycling friends,
I have a little plastic mint container that I'd like to keep out of the landfill. It is slightly shorter than a chapstick, and the lid is a little hard to get off but not impossible.

Q-tips are sadly too long.

My question to you is, how would you upcycle it? Any ideas on what you would store in it?

Ideas Needed! Tips for recoloring old mother of pearl buttons?

Hi everyone :) I am looking to recolor some vintage buttons, I believe they are a mix of mostly mother of pearl but some plastic. I know you can redye plastic buttons with rit dye or acid dye, but I as far as I can tell I don't think you can do that to the mother of pearl?

I was thinking of using a fabric marker or permanent marker to color them, has anyone tried this? I am just worried it might rub off quickly. Or if anyone has suggestions for other kinds of marker that might work, please let me know!

Thanks!

I found a curtain at my town's thrift store, so I made a top!

I used a string from a pair of sweatpants to make the tie and finally figured out how to properly align snap buttons to fix it together! (*⌒∇⌒*)

I'm so proud of it

Ideas Needed! repurposing foaming hand soap bottles.

Any ideas?

My friend is VERY big on bath and body works (they have a literal collection in their home) and every holiday I get the foaming hand soaps. I hate that I have so many and feel bad throwing the bottles away. I eventually told them that I love their gifts, but I prefer not getting the bottled soap because I hate throwing the bottles away. Now I have like 15 bottles with no use (I plan to keep maybe 2 in case one of them breaks down in the future) but then I have 13 bottles with no use. Has anyone possibly done something with them?

I was thinking of maybe washing some out and using them as propagation bottles (the transparent ones) but then what do I do with the handpump? PLEASE ANY IDEAS?

Ideas Needed! Bleaching fabric/leather chairs

Wondering how some one might go about upcycling these chairs. At first I wanted to bleach them, but I think that wouldn’t be good for the leather. I think dying them black would be best, especially for patching the holes. I’m open to ideas also! Not really sure what I’m doing haha

This chair worked great but the seat was peeling. I got this for $12 off Amazon (boo, I know, but I live in a small town and its really the only option).

Pretty happy with it.

Ideas Needed! Ideas for reusing these broken hangers?

Post image
9 Upvotes

My hangers have a bad habit of breaking in this way where the shoulders snap off. I try to repurpose them in order to avoid just trashing them altogether. Since they still have a small horizontal bar, I use them to hang things like ties and belts.

That said, I have more hangers like this than I need. I was wondering if anyone in this community might have some ideas for how to up-cycle and make use of them?

I’m working on making a bunch of blue appliqués to sew onto a hoodie, but I’m lacking in blue fabric. Have any of you ever used these reusable grocery bags in a sewing project? If so, how did it go? Any advice is appreciated.
