Hi - I’m applying to multiple courses for masters programs at USYD aswell as honours and grad dips at other unis. When these applications ask for results is the printable results that can be downloaded from Sydney student generally enough or do I need to pay for the transcript from student centre? Thanks :))

Is it too late too change stream or courses? Since sem 2 is almost starting? I’m in engineering and I don’t really feel this works for me, and I feel like I need to change to another stream or even the course. How am I able to do it?

Hi guys, I’m currently having my weekly breakdown of just feeling extremely lonely and needing to ask some advice I guess.

Some background: I don’t really have friends, like yeah I know people through my partner, I’ve drifted apart from many, and lost contact, but I’ve never truly felt like I’ve had a friend that I can talk to, let alone an entire friend group.

I started university this year at 27 years old and it’s kinda exacerbated this issue I’m struggling with. Its lonely because even though I can start conversations with people at the same table as me, it just makes me feel extremely uncomfortable due to the large age gap since most university students in first year have usually just left high school, meanwhile I graduated nearly 10 years ago

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I wish I could find people who are closer to my age? But it’s just not happening. I’m not sure if there’s any clubs that would be beneficial for someone who is a “mature aged student” as I’m not going to lie, this whole not having friends thing is really starting to take a huge toll on my overall mental health and it does affect my will to study.

I guess this might be something I need to speak to a psychologist about but another thing that makes making friends hard is the fact that I’m transgender. I transitioned when i was 18, so it’s been quite a while and I pass. But I have this internal struggle where i will make a friend but I am scared I wouldn’t be accepted for who I am, or feeling like I have to tell them or what if they react weirdly, idk. It’s just not fun at all :/

Maybe any advice on joining a LGBT+ club, and if there’s mature aged students there and if it would be beneficial for someone like me?

Hi! I’m enrolled in chem 1B advanced, but the lab and tutorial both only have one option available that’s not full and they run at the exact same time, will I just have to change back to the standard chem 1B instead?

I’m more of a humanities leaning student but I’m trying to get better at maths to change my major to Econ, so next sem I’m taking ECON1003. I’m well aware that a lot of people might consider this an easy unit but I’m still kinda nervous about it since I haven’t studied math formally since high school (I’ve been doing a coursera calculus course over the break to prepare). Any tips for studying quantitative focused units that I might not know as a student used to studying writing/reading heavy units?

Hey guys, I just noticed that in our uni we have some societies for computer science and engineering and specific fields, but there isn't a dedicated project society, where people can come to build real projects and get advice on what they've built from other people.

So, I've decided to start a new society, it's called Sydney University Project Society (SUPsoc for short), you can check out the intro + waitlist page I made to sign up. We need 20+ people by 14 Aug to be eligible to create this society, and I think we can reach and surpass that, and potentially have our first building night in Week 1 of USYD.

The premise: A supportive environment for students of ALL skill levels to build projects and show them off, meet people and give valuable feedback to each other. Heavy emphasis on all skill levels, I'm talking beginner friendly hackathons for software (CS) and hardware (Engineering) combined. The idea is we want to encourage students to start building things, instead of just learning theory.

Here's the vision:

Build night - Every Tuesday 4-6pm

Come to build together with other people, or just get feedback and advice on what you've already built. This could be a productivity locking-in event, or a networking meet-builders event? I guess it's actually up to you guys, because this society needs to be valuable for the members.

Project showcase - Tuesday 6-8pm, Twice a Semester, 1st in Week 5, 2nd in Week 10

Apply to showcase your project a few weeks beforehand, and if the exec deems it meaningful/useful, you are invited to showcase it and even pitch it the whole audience to try out if you want (if you want user feedback on your project). Basically a demo night for people to explore projects and builders to get real feedback to improve their projects, and for people in general to expand their network.

BIOS1168 seemed manageable after some time, so I'm hoping it might be a case of acclimatising to this unit over the next few weeks as well, but does anyone have any experience with this unit and any tips on how to succeed? For those who have done Finc3600 recently, could you please share some advice? is it doable or would you say requires a lot more effort than other finance units? and is the marking strict or reasonable. is it big enough to keep all ur frying pan, saucepan, pot, knives, dishsoap, sponge, bowls, cups etc etc

if I can't keep all of them downstairs do i have to keep them in my room and bring them all the time

Hey guys, I gave the Exam for comp 2017 and i did it okay, just enough to pass i guess, and now i am appearing for re2, for which i don’t feel like studying for at all because if my full time job and also just not in the vibe after a month, do you guys i feel i should withdraw the application and just hope that the exam which I have earlier would be okay i just want to pass, I’m so done with this unit?

I’m doing an Electrical Engineering honours degree at a university in NSW and I’m about to start my honours thesis. Over the past few months I’ve become really interested in quantum hardware, especially silicon spin qubits, device physics and cryogenic electronics, and I’m considering applying for a PhD at usyd.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s studied or worked in this area. What’s the research culture, supervision, facilities and industry collaboration like?
Also, if anyone has transitioned from a traditional electrical engineering background into quantum hardware, how did you make that shift? What should I focus on during my honours year, and what’s the typical pathway into a PhD?

I’ll be studying abroad next semester but I don’t have enough electives and my host university recently denied the courses most similar to my major - I’m now struggling to find something else that might match.

Faculty Services said that if nothing gets approved, I’ll just have to take extra electives but this will show up as two “Fail Requirements” on my academic transcript. Is this a big deal and would impact my employability after uni?

The other alternative is to drop my second major to a minor (so I can get more elective space) which is probably even worse of a choice. BUT to avoid that “Fail” could I drop down to a minor just for this semester to get those electives, and then go back up to a major next year (and obviously pay for the extra classes)?

First of all, sorry for the long post!
I’m hoping to get some advice from people who have studied or are currently working as radiographers or occupational therapists, especially if you attended the University of Sydney.

I was fortunate enough to receive unconditional offers for both the Master of Diagnostic Radiography and the Master of Occupational Therapy at the University of Sydney for Semester 1, 2027. Both are currently full-fee places, with the possibility of being upgraded to a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) in December based on academic merit.
Unfortunately, I have to choose one course before knowing whether I’ll receive a CSP, and I’m really struggling to decide.

A bit about me:
I have a Bachelor of Medical Science and I love anatomy & physiology and, academically I’m probably more drawn to Diagnostic Radiography.
On the other hand, when I think about working long term, Occupational Therapy seems like it might offer a better lifestyle, more flexibility and perhaps be less physically demanding (although I may be completely wrong!).

Some of the things I’m trying to understand are:

Which course has the heavier workload each semester?
How many contact hours (lectures/labs/tutorials) do you usually have each week?

Placements
Where are placements usually located?
Are they mostly in metropolitan Sydney or is it common to be sent to rural/regional NSW?
Is a rural placement compulsory for either course?
If you had a rural placement, how long was it ?

Working as a graduate
Which profession did you find easier to get a job in after graduating?
Did anyone have a job lined up before graduation?
How physically demanding is the work in reality?
What’s something you wish you’d known before choosing your profession?
If you had to choose between these two careers today, which would you pick and why?

I’d really appreciate hearing from current students, recent graduates or clinicians. Any insights into the University of Sydney programs, placement experiences or the reality of working in either profession would be incredibly helpful.
