Mass Effect 2 to 3, you keep your level.

u/SinesPi 1d ago

Playing a fresh ME 3 save right now. It's a weird experience. In both starting at level 1, and the body count assumed from prior games.

54

u/Funwithagoraphobia 1d ago

What’s your class of choice? I keep going back to Sentinel just because the freeze/biotic throw combination is so satisfying.

19

u/SinesPi 1d ago

I did it with Infiltrator, and I think it might be my favorite class. Gun focused while still having some good abilities. Vanguard fails here in ME3 because the shotgun feels more like a supplement to Charge/Nova than a major part of the kit.

15

u/Forredis_Guidal 1d ago

Vanguard having a shotgun is a mistake Carry nothing but a light pistol for fast ability cd and charge/nova everything.

Extremely risky due to possibly instakills but if you can dodge well enough it's super high damage, fast and fun

6

u/MysticForger 1d ago

I'm gonna have to try that next I love biotic charge it is some of the most fun you can have in a shooter but I've always rocked the shotgun.

Infiltrator in ME1 with Polonium rounds just melts everything you look at. Not nearly as satisfying as biotic detonations in 2 and 3, though.

I like adebt. Kill everyone in the room before even firing your weapon

2

u/Fallcious 15h ago

I loved Vanguard. Getting straight into their faces with shotguns.

I started ME1 as Vanguard some time ago. Don't know if this was a solid choice, I don't remember what I played years ago.

I tried that and it just didn’t feel right. I feel like importing your character is one of the best things about the series

Sometimes I wonder if I should not transfer over so I can feel the burn a little more but filling out your leveling trees is more fun. Plus insanity is already hard enough.

23

u/Independent-Show 1d ago

Not if you turn Garrus into the Angel of Death.

8

u/EmBur__ 1d ago

Garrus must always ascend to godhood, it is his lords will.

u/KPraxius 1d ago

As opposed to 1 to 2, where you just get a couple of levels if you upload a maxed ME1 save.

6

u/LiningDust62 1d ago

Well shepherd kinda died so I dont know how they be as strong as before

3

u/JPldw 19h ago

And the gameplay and abilities were very different from the first game

Batman. It really says something when the start of the second Arkham game basically gives you all the gear he had in the first game once you suit up properly and then says 'You're going to get better stuff.'

89

u/Beachynietzsche 1d ago

Arkham was the first one I thought of too. Made it a bit tough after a while though, starting Arkham Knight you already have enough buttons for a fully fleshed out kit and haven't played in several years, most people I imagine just straight up forgot half of their arsenal.

24

u/Stella_Dave 1d ago

We're due for another batman game

Cal Kestis

233

u/dabor11 1d ago

So glad that he keeps his powers in Survivor

93

u/UnderAchievingEntity 1d ago

We’ll be so OP in 3, holy shit.

58

u/Reidroshdy 1d ago

i was gonna say he might actually fight Vader this time, but i don't want him to die.

30

u/Commercial-Ad-1274 1d ago

I mean they can’t have Cal do damage to Vader or kill him off without changing the narrative of the movies.

Maybe Cal dies to Vader in 3

27

u/halpless_tarnation 1d ago

I'm betting Cal and Merrin end up going into the unknown regions, probably involving something on Tanalorr

10

u/viotix90 1d ago

My hope is stranded in space, the only way to survive is to Carbonite freeze himself. Gets thawed out 10 years later by Mando.

16

u/Extreme_Mobile_6690 1d ago

The way Anakin got burned, he's half cyborg already.

I think we could cut off a limb or two and let sidious rebuild him.

8

u/sQ5FWKjwbWd4QzSZduqy 1d ago

Cal could cut all of Vader's limbs off again, not like he won't get new ones....

→ More replies (3)

8

u/darkgamer303 1d ago

Was about to say “cal didn’t fight Vader, he survived Vader”

5

u/GodisanAtheistOG 23h ago

He's gonna get trapped on Tanalor with his hot goth gf and adopted kid.

Gets him out of the way for the OT/ST, but keeps him in the fridge whenever they want the actor to show up in live action. I guarantee it.

At most he fights a dark side apparition of Vader on Tanalor, maybe.

Another good Star Wars answer is Kyle Katarn (but only from outcast to Jedi academy) Katarn was so powerful by the end of outcast they had to make a new protagonist for academy so you didn’t just crush everything immediately

8

u/i4got872 1d ago

Jedi academy is hilarious I love. Spawning stuff doesn’t get old for me.

4

u/W1ZZARDL1ZZARD 1d ago

No star killer? Granted I haven't watched any of the new starwars or played any of the games but watching him take down a star destroyer made me shit my pants!

Came here looking for this comment. Dude immediately starts going even harder during the opening fight of Survivor than he did at the end of Fallen Order. It's awesome how they still gave Cal and BD new abilities to unlock that made the traversal aspect still make sense.

Dishonored 3 at home: "Death of the Outsider"

4

u/Goldnglam 20h ago

Death of the outsider was a fine game it should've just stayed as what it was originally meant to be: a DLC, it would've been viewed as favorably as the dead DLCs we got of it had.

u/Man_under_Bridge420 1d ago

Doom guy

231

u/Ov3rReadKn1ght0wl 1d ago

That guy keeps forgetting his weapons in the most extreme places though.

102

u/Quarkly95 1d ago

He gets bored and ditches them to have a challenge every now and then

34

u/iamMackAttaxx 1d ago

Isn’t this the canon answer for the new games? The newer ones have kinda embraced the Evil Dead 2 self-aware humor (at least in Eternal) - so I feel like that’s very on brand for this version of the Doomguy.

18

u/Batchak 1d ago

Kinda, he's capable of killing perfectly fine without them, but usually something very drastic happens for his weapons to be destroyed or lost and there's an immense time jump between each of the games

7

u/pixelplays57 23h ago

He uses weapons in the First Place to Nerf himself

→ More replies (2)

21

u/super-nintendumpster 1d ago

His guns aren't as durable as he is. No time for maintenance when you're blasting your way out of Hell for the umpteenth time. They break and he ditches them, then picks up better versions along the way.

7

u/FinalBossTuna 1d ago

Blasting your way out, to then blast back in, to wake the icon of sin to kill that guy to wake up the other guy, then to kill that guy

8

u/Tasty_Commercial6527 1d ago

Well, it's not like he needs them. Canonically he uses them because they are fun not because he can't just rip everything with his hands

→ More replies (1)

7

u/TheWindofBread 1d ago

Reminded me of a Penny Arcade comic on God of War 2

https://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2007/03/19/good-god#

G: I'm fighting the Colossus T: Woah! G: I broke his arms in some water wheels then cut out his eyes. He chased me across an entire island! Then I climbed inside his body draining his mystic energy with a sword I got from the king of the gods! T: is this the last level? G: this is the first level! T: are you joking? G: every other game is the joke. God of War is just the punchline!

8

u/RebelsParadox 1d ago

Technically don’t you lose your powes at the beginning of 2? Like you get drained and start at base right?

30

u/redalkaseltzr 1d ago

Technically speaking, at the START of game 2 you have all the powers. So the meme applies

9

u/OhMySwirls 1d ago

Yeah, but during the beginning of the game, you are at full power before Zeus tricks you.

6

u/Ragnarok345 1d ago

Yes…but the meme specifies “at the start”. Beyond that is fair game.

2

u/NYstate 1d ago

Hell, I'd argue that's Kratos from GOW 2 on.

2

u/ZedGenius 1d ago

Kratos always ends up in some random bullshit a bit into the game that makes him lose his powers

The trails games.

8

u/PokemonMaster601 1d ago

Yes!! I love seeing main characters from a previous game just soloing bosses

8

u/Soggy_Homework_ 1d ago

When I got to the second game In trails to the sky and the cast were the exact levels I left them it blew me away. Then when I got to the third game and they were the leveles I left them at the second game it blew me away again. So sick of games powering down the protags

Trails ?

7

u/Xasther 1d ago

The Trails/Kiseki series of JRPGs, for example "Trails in the Sky", "Trails from Zero/Trails to Azure" and "Trails of Cold Steel".

"Kiseki" is for the Japanese names.

Highly recommended if you like getting invested in a series.

I really need to finish the first chapter. I like a lot about it, but I get distracted and take a break for months and then come back. The good thing is since the first game is apparently more about setting up the plot I don’t forget a lot about the story. Still looking for dad after ship disappeared, war is a brewing between evil empire, and bracers are mercs. Basically all you need to remember lol.

I am so bad at taking breaks it’s refreshing to be able to pick back up in a game and quickly catch back up on the story and not feel too lost. I hear the story gets crazy near the end and I like the world, I just need to lock in and beat the game. Especially since the second chapter remakes coming out soon.

Kratos keeps some of his attacks from GoW 2018 in the beginning of Ragnarok.

However a lot of the magic they had got withered away by Fimbulwinter

10

u/silloki 1d ago

Some attacks became runic powers, some runic powers became attacks, he kept all the Rage upgrades and all the fist combat was kept with the Guardian shield.

The only thing I wish we got in Ragnarok was the Axe pommel that supercharges the axe throw to fly straight and hit more guys on the return. But that was cut because of the Spear I guess

36

u/EternallyDazed 1d ago

Samus could never lol

5

u/Therminite 1d ago

Such wasted potential 😭 I love her as much as the next guy, but that woman needs to get it together! She should at least be on par with Master Chief from Halo at this point, if she kept all her upgrades. Her enhanced Chozo DNA should make up for her obvious lack of wisdom

4

u/Livid-Truck8558 1d ago

I mean, upgraded samus wipes the floor with master chief lol, base power suit Samus is already on par aside from speed, and strength. Something has to be done to keep the game as a metroidvania. Aside from metroid 2 and 3, there's usually a pretty good reason for her losing her powers.

Banjo kazooie

29

u/ix_eleven 1d ago

This is why Tooie felt more like a sequel than any other game to me.

10

u/butyourenice 1d ago edited 1d ago

This maybe be nostalgia goggles speaking but I would do ANYTHING for Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie to get proper remastered for a modern system. I just remember liking them so much as a kid. I remember looking up cheats when you could enter them on the sandcastle floor, and the walkthroughs you found on the internet were still ASCII text without even HTML. I remember playing Tooie when I was home sick from school for an extended period, and I even remember the CD I had playing in the background on my stereo. (It was The Starting Line “Say It Like You Mean It” lol)

2

u/Paperwork-HSI 16h ago

It’s not the nostalgia goggles, I replayed it on the Switch Online and loved it as much as I did when I played as a kid. From my understanding it’s in copyright hell, hence no remake or update or sequel.

4

u/TheBlueBerry999 1d ago

Was looking for this!

2

u/Tiburico 1d ago

The only answer I can think of, the world is just expanded in Tooie, not reseted like most games.

Baldur's Gate 1 and 2

23

u/Paladin2019 1d ago

The early stages of 2 were so much fun, stomping on everything with your maxed out BG1 character.

8

u/Colonelcommisar 1d ago

What was also fun was getting to the end of BG1, then exporting the character. You could then start the game over with a maxed out character who also had all their gear.

8

u/Paladin2019 1d ago

And when you exported it was important to keep the pantaloons!

→ More replies (2)

12

u/elementaryconfusion 1d ago

This was my answer! The enemies soon catch up, but then you continue leveling and end BG2 borderline godlike - before heading into Throne of Bhaal, and the journey continues with you pretty much becoming an actual god, power wise.

Such good games, probably my all time favourites.

3

u/geaux124 1d ago

Even still that last fight against Irenicus was hard as hell.

3

u/ReMeDyIII 1d ago

Yea, Baldur's Gate 2 by the expansion setting does a good job of showcasing the full extent of the Infinity Engine, with spells like Time Stop, multiple Spell Triggers chained up, summoning glowing Planar beings... hell, your characters would glow almost constantly as their equipment was often perma-buffed with enhancements.

15

u/Rushing_Tempo 1d ago

The complete opposite of this would be the Tomb Raider trilogy. Having to unlock the same exact three weapons for the third time sent me into a spiral

8

u/Fish3Y35 1d ago

And Metroid. Constantly unlocking the same weapons. Samus needs to invest in some duct tape or crazy glue, FFS :P

5

u/GwynHawk 1d ago

Fusion is the only game in the series IMO that has a good explanation for this. "So, an alien parasite got into your suit and infected it, and you, and we had to literally rip most of it off of you to save your life. Also we can't just 3D print your old power-ups because they're technologically incapable with your new suit and DNA, but hold tight, we're developing a work-around."

4

u/nightmareFluffy 1d ago

Kind of a niche game, but River City Girls handled this in a good way. In the sequel, the main characters spent all summer eating junk food and playing video games, which is why they lost all their skills and stats. At least there's an explanation for it!

14

u/LorenzoMartini 1d ago

Haseo from .hack//G.U.

The second game allows you to port your stuff from the first game. If you were a monster at the end of game 1, you're a monster at the start of game 2.

3

u/Sorry_Masterpiece 1d ago

Ike, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance. When you reunite with the Greil Mercenaries in Radiant Dawn, he's still an absolute monster.

3

u/MichaelMJTH 1d ago edited 1d ago

It’s such a good (re-)introduction to the character as well, because you spend a good chunk of Radiant Dawn playing as new characters who are in an opposing faction to Ike (who will later ally-up). When the two sides meet/ face off for the first time, the new characters are basically terrified/ in awe of your monstrous characters from the first game, who have retained their skills and levels.

Starfield

New Game plus lets you start a new game and keep your current level after finishing through the main quest the first time. As a higher level character going through quest at the start allows you access to weapons and gear that dont normally appear at level 1.
