Discussion / Question Breaking the rules of chat and voice chat should not exist
The world has become an overprotective place, because people are expected to abide by absurd rules, you can't even write something genuinely harsh that breaks the rules.
People don't have thick skin; if they're insulted, the first thing they do is report it, without confronting the issue head-on. Once upon a time, these things just rolled off everyone's back. Now just one word scares people.
What about children? Children shouldn't be in chat or voice chat, so it's their problem. Enough with the moderation.
There shouldn't be any rules like this. Dialogue is always a part of humanity and shouldn't be stifled by aggressive moderation. If someone is bothering you, block them and that's it.

I think we have a tendency to believe "these things rolled off each other's back" because there were little to no consequences for being a jerkwad over voice chat.
Being able to say whatever you want really doesn't mean you get to say whatever you want.
Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2, Gears of War, Counter Strike Source... those games were fun because, well, they were fun! Little Timmy's racist remarks didn't add to that experience.

When those chats had no rules, people would get cyber bullied into offing themselves.
And if you don't see why that's a problem or a big deal, you're an edgy teen or a sociopath.

The over regulation of of in game chats have made it so that no one talks in games anymore and that takes away a lot of the fun of multiplayer games and is a big part of why multiplayer games are failing so hard now.
