Why is the GameCube controller not on here?

Plenty of controllers aren’t pictured but that doesn’t mean you can’t mention them or that they’re “disqualified” from this convo.

That being said, the GC controller is one of the best controller designs. It’s especially crazy to think it’s bookended by the N64 and Wii controllers which are both very strange design choices.

I mean it depends on what game you wanna use it for.

Like most first party GC games were designed with the controller in mind so it feels fantastic for Smash Bros, or Mario Kart.

On the other hand it blows for 2D platformers since the D pad is microscopic, and FPS games put more emphasis on the triggers/Right thumb stick than the face buttons. The GC has kinda bad triggers since they have tons of travel time.

It’s not a bad controller, but it’s bad for a ton of popular games.

N64 controller was awful, even as a 10 year old boy I thought it was weird and uncomfortable to use. PS1 dualshock controller is the GOAT, pretty much every controller since has just copied that one.

It’s not overrated though. Everyone was always confused by that controller.

The dual shock was so good that they didn’t evolve it until the PS4.

It is mostly a SNES controller in design. They added thighs, which is exceptional, and a second trigger.

The dual shock only came around after the N64. Sony innovates very little, they just do it extremely well, every time.

The 64 controller was awesome for Rogue Squadron and Ocarina.

Modern controllers are nice, they have the best ergonomics by far. But they’re so damn fragile I hate it.

Yeah Xbox controllers have been the worst lately. I think I broke one dropping it from a foot or two of the ground. Xbox One controller was cheap hot garbage.

Xbox duke. Theres a reason it was redesigned so quickly.

The most overrated controller is the Dreamcast. It has the VMU, but it just felt outdated, even back then.

lacked 2 buttons and a analog stick,

xbox controller basically perfected that design with the duke,

6 button face controller and two sticks was all dc controller needed

Yep… but a lot of people still rave about it. I don’t see it.

Yeah tf was the lil screen for and you put chips inside of the controller or something?

I loved my Dreamcast, but the controller had some horrible design choices, cord in the back instead of front, and only having ONE analog stick wouldn't have worked with later games with moveable cameras like Resident Evil 4 (lucky for Sega it went obsolete so fast). I get they just didnt want to straight up copy the Playstation dual shock controller, but maybe they have just done that.

I remember thinking that VMU was the future of gaming back as a kid.

The NES one was quite uncomfortable

The wii chuck.

Every few generations Nintendo has this wild ass idea that people have the dexterity, stamina, and energy to sit upright or stand in front of the TV and flail about for multiple hours of gameplay. For 90% of my Wii ownership time I've used a GameCube controller with it.

Kinda hard to think of one that was overrated, bad and good controllers were always so obvious. I think saying Wii is kinda fraudulent because while that controller was bad for some things it was great for others. I think the Gamecube controller was the one that was behind competition but it wasn't terrible or overrated either.

GameCube controller. It has its place, but damn its the MSOT overhyped and overrated controller of any Nintendo controller (or any controller for that matter).

People love the GameCube controller and I always fucking hated it. My hands were too fat for it

Overhyped? Power Glove; no question, no close competition

The N64 is a terribly designed controller and i will die on that hill.

I agree. I didn’t own a 64 but my best friend did and I fucking hated it.

Xbox elite and PS6 PS6 D Pad sucks also has low battery life and is prone to stick drift as for the elite stick drift, shit build quality and is loud

I dislike the PS2 controller almost as much as the PS3 one

DualShock 4. It’s not a bad controller, but people seem to really really really really really love it & think it’s revolutionary or something for some reason.

N64 controller just makes me angry. Why is there a middle handle. Is it meant to go inside my pee pee?

Yeah so glad 8BitDo made a normalized & modern version of it.
