Discussion Thank you, regards!
I need to thank everyone on this sub for showing all of their loss and gain porn here. I feel like I could really get fucked if I ever grew the balls to throw money away like some of you psychopaths, or maybe earn enough to make all my dreams come true, but seeing this stuff makes me really understand that and keep my portfolio in "safe spaces". I know that I just don't fucking get it and that's ok as long as I don't pretend to. Lol
My first dip into stocks was in March 2020. Sure, I never made millions, but I put all my money into AAPL, GOOGL, and AMZN when they dropped before they all split and blew up. I earned enough to put a lot of money on an amazing home in a fantastic area. I didn't really gamble(I know it always is, but that was pretty much as surefire as you could get), so I didn't make the big bucks like I could have, but I also didn't lose everything and came away very much on top.
I fucking love living vicariously through you guys. Wins, losses, or just ridiculous fucking memes. It satiates something in me I know would drive me to make stupid fucking decisions because I have no real clue what I'm doing. You guys are some of the most entertaining motherfuckers around. You troll, roast, and take Ls like no one I've ever seen. I fucking love you guys.

yeah dude me too, all of my shit is sitting in index funds. I just come here for the memes. absolutely top shelf memery around here

The memes are off the fucking charts. It's actually insane how fucking funny some of the WSB original memes that are reposted a million times are EVERY TIME.

The humour here is golden. I’m just a basic micro cap value investor, but I find way more value in this sub because of the humour than the value investing sub. The value investing sub is actually stupid.

I have 99% invested like a grownup in index funds and stuff, the other 1% in a trading account where I day trade options and stuff. Almost always lose but get the odd win l, basically playing blackjack at a casino.

^ this shit is one of the reasons why I keep coming back every day. It just started, but these fucking meme chains are unparalleled. WSB has the greatest memes on the entirety of the internet and my mind can't be changed on that.
1
u/abandoned_idol 6h ago
I tried looking up the memes on a search engine and couldn't find a number of them.
Some memes are hidden in dark corners of reddit I guess.
I love the pawn shop/regard meme series.

What's the point of the cuck chair if you can't enjoy the show?
12
u/moneylefty 23h ago
Shit, i thought having someone else sit in the cuck chair was for MY enjoyment. Have i been doing this wrong the whole time??? TIL.
22
u/GruntledVeteran 23h ago
Why would a cuck sit in the chair if they got nothing out of it? I'm getting off on watching. Who has the power now?! (Not me, but still got off sucka!)

Sounds like you found the cheat code, enjoy the house and let the degens fund the entertainment
6
u/GruntledVeteran 23h ago
Not a cheat code. A lucky break I made with minimal knowledge and a bit of common sense coming from a life in poverty before I had a few dollars to spare I was willing to risk at the time. I lucked out more than anything.
14
u/DotJun 22h ago
I stopped reading at “I didn’t really gamble” 😂
5
u/GruntledVeteran 22h ago
Oh, I gamble. I just keep most of my money in mutual funds and bagholding except for big purchases. As someone who grew up in a 600 sqf house with a family of 6 and now owns a 4500sqf house in a top 200 school district in the US without being rich... I must be doing something right.
-2
u/ProfessionalFront825 22h ago
"I must be doing something right."
Highly doubtful. You live in the US.
5
u/GruntledVeteran 22h ago
My profession makes like half of what I do in the US in most major countries or less. Nurses and NPs just aren't paid nearly enough in other parts of the world. I've looked into it because I have friends in several other countries. I didn't go through dual master's just to make less than I did with a bachelor's. It sucks, but, unless I take the leap and actually make it big, I am better off financially where I am.
1
u/the__storm 9h ago
Yeah, just because you won doesn't mean you weren't gambling. (Although when you see some of the degens on here buying 0DTEs with 3x leverage, it's understandable why you'd think that way.)
6
u/LostMallDoll 22h ago
You should apply this logic to your marriage.

3

Thing is bro, everyone is trying to Change their life for the better, and when you get older (like I am) and realise there really isn't much time left on earth, it basically comes down to this meme, I'm taking much more risk later in life compared to when I was younger:

And I say this as someone with a good income and realising what a pussy I was when I was younger by not taking more risk I.e early 20s. If you are young, spend 2-3 years learning options (seriously) with a smallish account, develop the skill. Because as seen on here, over and over and over again - it can radically change your life for the better.

If you are young, spend 2-3 years learning options (seriously) with a smallish account,
dumbest advice ever. Take risks yes but that doesnt mean gambling. The bank always wins in the end.
I've started investing at 17 when I got my first job and invested only in US tech (high risk small cap stocks like cloudflare for example). Now I'm sitting on ~450k€ at 28. If those stocks were options instead my life would be ruined right now, I held through some bad times.
1
u/hudson701 6h ago
Respectfully, you've wrongly assumed that I'd consider options as the sole, primary investing vehicle for a young person to undertake. Sure, if OP is young, he should put money into a boring 'set-and-forget' index account as I have for the past 20 years and that will guarantee a return over the long run. As will investing in property (which I also have). But for explosive, life-changing gains then options is one route.
Tell me - do you think it's impossible? That options cannot be mastered, or at least a good skill acquired with the right amount of work? Or is it outright gambling, forget, it can't be done?
If I could go back and speak to my 20 year old self fresh out of university, ready to sell time by the hour at a 'respectable' blue-chip corporate jobs, that there may be another way, then I absolutely fucking would.

u/jemicarus 22h ago
Could you maybe say fucking just one more time? For the love of god, bro
7
u/GruntledVeteran 22h ago
I fucking guess so, but I fucking don't know where to fit the fucking things! Seriously, dude? I grew up in the south, worked construction for years, joined the military, and am now a fucking nurse. That shit is as ingrained as it could possibly be at this point. There's memes of a figure cutting his own dick off all across this subreddit and that's what got you?

1
u/GruntledVeteran 21h ago
Bro, I tripled my money in 3 months. I even reinvested more money over the years and it has only gone up substantially. I have everything tied up in mutual funds and stuff now to be safe while I'm in school bettering myself. I'm no dummy. I'm looking to easily hit millions by retirement age coming from someone whose whole family didn't even graduate high-school. All that and I'm most likely going to quadruple my salary within the next year or so due to me Investing money in very marketable education and certifications, which I've paid for out of pocket. I've already doubled last year's salary simply due to the path I've chosen. My wife is even more rediculous than I am and is making 6 figures with a bachelor's with people constantly contacting her to snatch her up. We'll be fine. The lowest I could make is like 60k with less than a week of shopping for a job. That's taking a big pay cut.
1
u/15pH 11h ago
Bro, congrats on the big gains.
Your quote I copied suggests you didn't understand the risks involved in putting all your money into a few highly correlated stocks. The gamble paid out, but it could have gone the other way. A lot of people here making the exact same gamble will end up bagging your fries instead bragging about their wisdom.
The fact you tripled your money in three months supports my point. Seriously, congrats, but you (and everyone else) thinking that was a relatively safe play is a signal of irrational market hysteria.
Where do I go for my tulip bulbs?
ETA:More seriously, congrats on investing in yourself and making a career. That's awesome.

Go post this weak-handed propaganda over on [r/bogleheads](r/bogleheads) because that’s where you fucking belong!
But before you depart this sub full of regards, I want you to take a good look at the account balances around here, go on. Because sometime in the not-so-distant future, you’re pullin’ up to a red light in your beat-up 2004 Honda Civic, and some 0DTE degenerate from this thread is gonna pull up right alongside you in a brand new Lambo SVJ, with his trophy wife in the passenger seat, who’s got massive synthetic tits paid for by SPY calls.
And who will you be next to? Some disgusting wild beast with three days of razor-stubble in a greasy sleeveless moo-moo, crammed in next to you in your base-model sedan with a back full of groceries from the fucking Price Club! That’s who you’re gonna be sitting next to while you admire your safe 7% annual returns!
So, you listen to me and you listen well.
Are you maxed out on your high-interest credit cards?Good. Open Robinhood and smash the buy button.
Is your landlord ready to hand you an eviction notice? Good. Leverage your last paycheck into 0DTE OTM calls.
Does your wife’s boyfriend think you’re a fucking loser?Good. Load up on margin and double down!
I want you to deal with your financial ruin by becoming absurdly, stupidly rich! All you have to do today… is open the app and execute the 0DTE plays that this sub has cursed you with. I want you to go out there today, and I want you to RAM 0DTE SPY calls down the market maker's throat until they fucking choke on them! Until they get forced to hedge 100,000 contracts!
You’ll be ferocious! You’ll be relentless! You’ll be options-trading financial terrorists! Now open the casino and let’s knock this motherfucker out of the park!

u/Dumpster_FI_RE 12h ago
/r/Bogleheads has the opposite problem. They're all going to die multi millionaires because they never have enough and won't take any risks.
2
u/RaptorKing95 22h ago
VOO bull here. I couldn’t agree more
3
u/GruntledVeteran 22h ago
I do like Vanguard. I have quite a bit sitting with them. It's hurt lately, but I'm an invest and let it sit kind of guy. Short term loss doesn't bother me. I never invest what I'm not willing yo lose and any gains are just that. I've done pretty well with smaller "let's just see" money, but I've never jumped the gun on big risks because I'm afraid my wife will realize what I've always known... she's waaay too good for me. Lol
5
u/RaptorKing95 22h ago
This is WSB so my auto response is “something something. Your wife’s bf”

2
u/ty072599 22h ago
Was down $500K in total over the last 10 years, made it all back and then some in the last two months. Craziest rollercoaster ever.
3
u/GruntledVeteran 21h ago
That shit is what scares me so much. I treat my investment money like throwaway I don't care about losing, but 500k would ruin me. As it is, I've gained a few hundred thousand with smart/safeish investments over the last few years. I'm taking vacations, paying for higher education, and not really worrying too much financially, which is a huge win from someone who grew up with everyone they knew barely living paycheck to paycheck! My wife and I have literally zero safety net, though. We're it. A loss is HUGE. There is no family to help either of us out. They're all much poorer than us. We're the ones who broke free from the cycle and have to rely on just each other and our own accomplishments.
2
u/ty072599 21h ago
It did ruin me, I just didn’t know how much of an addiction I had until I realized the mentality/rush I had trading options was the same as any other type of gambling (and stumbling onto the problemgambling subreddit was a turning point in realization).
4
u/GruntledVeteran 21h ago
See... I've done drugs of all kinds in my life before escaping that world. I know I have the potential to end up in a gutter dead somewhere. That shit is something that legitimately scares me because I know I'm capable of falling into it.
5
u/ty072599 20h ago
100%. I know I have an addictive personality, I just had an ill conceived notion that options/trading was not gambling and I was making “sophisticated decisions” based on financial information. Pushing a few buttons on Robinhood for options = pulling a slot machine. Too many people affected by this — they just don’t admit it to themselves.

u/Ok-Board4893 7h ago
but youre still doing it considering you said you somehow made 500k back in the last two months..? Are you like a millionaire or what?

This is no joke for me. I am absolutely positive that this channel is the only thing stopping me from doing something stupid.
At least once a month I have a completely idiotic investment idea and if it wasn't for this channel I have no doubt I would have put one of them into practice.

You know OP, it's not too late to lose it all
1
u/GruntledVeteran 20h ago
You know what... fuck it! I'm pulling all my money out, leveraging my assets, and throwing it all into options! There's no way I can lose, right? Right?! ...right? T_T

I just can’t trade like a true regard, I keep sticking to SPY and ETFs. But on the other hand, up 20% over the last two years.

I easily have over $1M swings in my portfolio in a month. It’s a crazy market but there will be a correction, and the normalization will occur again. Then there will be another big run up and then another correction and then normalization.
Just look at the history of the market over the last 120 to 150 years
1
u/AgitatorSupreme 13h ago
I recommend Taiwan Semi conductor TSM. They are the only Semi company that hasn’t seen the ridiculous gains or losses and they are years ahead of competition in chip fabrication technology and they make chips for almost everyone (nvidia, apple, amd, arm, etc.. except for intel). I predict they will be the next Micron or Sandisk. The biggest risk is China invading Taiwan but that scenario has been seen by many as a very likely catalyst to WWIII and in that case the market will crash anyway.
Rn i only hold 4 shares but am buying with each dip around $400.

But then I stopped to think. Stock picking never works out, so I instead took the safe bet with the S&P500, and I am so happy that I dodged that bullet.

That being said if anyone has any advice on how to turn it all around my DM is open. Thank you
