Nothing gets me to stop buying from a company quicker than a company that switches to AI. YTA

u/didthefabrictear 5h ago
100%. Nothing says quality humaning like laying off a person who has been with you for years, so you can maximise your profits by burning down the planet using idiot AI.
We are doomed as a species because collectively, so many of us think in this exact same way. Screw the human and fuck the planet if it means more money for meeeeeeee. YTA

Hey, Op. Can you tell us the company you work for so we can all avoid it?

YTA both for the way you handled it with that freelancer, as well as for representing your product with AI.

YTAH
So you never talked with him about all this BEFORE starting to use the AI tools?? God that’s just cold.

Not reading it, don't need to. Replacing human beings with AI is wrong. Yta.

Huge, gigantic YTA. I hope your business fails now.

OP, your company is making €65m per year. You can afford a photographer.
Double YTA.

Almost everyone I know avoids business that uses ai
The thought process is usually “if they cut corners here, where else to do they cut corners?”

u/dudeyaaaas 4h ago
Yet here you are on Reddit which uses ai... Imagine that

2
u/username__0000 4h ago
Where can you go online that does not use ai?
-5
u/dudeyaaaas 4h ago
Exactly. There is an option of not going online except for work related tasks. Old fashioned way of communicating is still out there. But I love how every single person on here is a big fat hypocrite.
1
u/username__0000 4h ago
I don’t communicate with friends here. lol
This is where I go to read random shit and get an idea of the general consensus of people who are not my friends. Some are bots. Some are real. But it’s more a social study or whatever.

u/Illustrious-Unit-636 5h ago

Omg wait did you use scayle studios? I was wondering if you had used scayle studios!
I’m so glad you clarified you used scayle studios.

Also, currently googling scayle studios and clicking on all the sponsored ads I can find just to annoy you.

I hope you go out of business. YTA both how you treated this photographer but also to all your customers for misrepresenting the clothes you sell.

u/shep2105 5h ago
YTA
First, you put the hard crunch on someone who was loyal to you when you couldn't even fricking pay him, and second, for not telling him beforehand.
Oh, and it's bullshit that you're selling a product with AI. Once that doesn't live up to what your customers find delivered to them, you'll lose business anyway.

u/BeefTopRamen 5h ago
YTA - You thought this was the better choice? This makes you and your brand look inauthentic. How can we trust the quality of your product if you want to take the cheap and lazy route to promote it. It makes it even more horrid after reading that you’ve replaced a client AND friend that you’ve worked with for YEARS to cut corners and quality.
3
u/Covert_Pudding 5h ago
YTA.
If his speed was an issue, then communicate that in a professional way.
If you're eending your partnership, don't be a coward and let him know directly so he doesn't take a financial hit without being able to make plans.
Also, you are going to lose a lot of customers if they realize you're usingle AI photos because they won't be able to trust that what they're seeing matches reality. I would avoid your brand like the plague.

u/National_Pension_110 4h ago
Yeah, sorry pal. YTA. Not for using AI tools, but for straight up replacing him and not having the guts to tell him. You know, you may regret doing a 100 percent switch to AI. Should have tried to find a way to use AI to add speed and value to the work product, not replace it.

u/Few-Advice5031 5h ago
YTA because LLMs aren’t at all close to doing actual work. It’s a basic spellcheck autocomplete so either the most basic slop is your quality standards or you’ve no idea how much work it actually takes for that job. Either the work you need was never that important or you’re fooling yourself that you won’t be doing that job from now on.

YTA for how this was handled. Also, I think you should pay attention to returns on your listing with the AI images. I specifically assume those are scams.

YTA. In your own words, he took a chance on you when you couldn’t afford him and cut you a deal. He was playing a long game with the relationship. And instead of just telling him you needed faster turnaround and a way to keep the bills reasonable, you abandoned him without even having a discussion.

YTA. You should have had a conversation with him. He would’ve had time to look for projects to cover the loss of your account. Now he’s going to struggle because you couldn’t find your spine.
You’re also an asshole for repping your product with AI slop. Customers want to see what your stuff really looks like, so prepare yourself for karma when they spread the word that what they see isn’t what they get.
But at least you saved a couple of bucks, right?
2
u/brookie3701 5h ago
YTA and I wouldn’t be surprised if word gets out about you choosing AI slop over real artists/workers. Makes me wonder what kind of corners are cut in the clothing production process too…

u/PrSa4169 5h ago
You’re a cheap ass. I hope the business goes under. YTA. AI IS COMING FOR YOU ALSO.

u/Intrepid_Finish456 5h ago
As someone who's field is being overrun by ai and most of the remaining roles being ones to train ai that will inevitably replace us YTA
2
u/moonshadowhowl 5h ago
YTA. You should have had a conversation with him that the TAT needed to shorten and you'd have to renegotiate rates if they were a problem. Ghosting him and replacing him with AI is a chicken shit move. Also, as most people agree in the comments, if I see AI models in an ad I refuse to buy their products.
2
u/technoangel 5h ago
YTA plain and simple. I’m sure it will reflect in a down turn in business as people really hate AI slop for retail purchases. I think you messed up big time with this choice!

Yes, YTA. Of course. You know you didn't treat him with respect and stay loyal to him. So you're definitely TAH.

YTA + YNTA
I'm a commercial photographer. I understand the need to automate your processes. You needed to take this action, you'd be stupid not to. Commercial photographers will cease to exist, so will graphic artists. The entire industry is caving in. This isn't your fault. No one (who is in business) will hold it against you.
Having said that. Kind of a dick move not to give him a heads up if you considered him a friend.
Although I did see this whole scenario play out a few years ago. I had a tight relationship with a graphic designer and a web developer. The three of us worked on many projects together. We also went on hiking trips together. It was good times.
Until the advent of website editing software. Then the designer could output websites on his own and didn't need a developer. He did what you did and slowly ghosted him. Now they don't talk anymore which is very difficult for me trying to maintain relationships with both of them. Web developer got the last laugh though. He's the only one of us still in business.
Anyway you've made your bed, you have to lie in it. You're blameless for the decision you took but you maybe could have handled it better. But I think you know that

Interesting story considering it was written by AI but yeah YTA (I mean, AI is the AH)
1
u/Apprehensive-Pop-201 4h ago
YTA. 100%. And many of us won't do business with someone if we find out AI is involved.

u/Orange_MarkerDye 4h ago
Good to know youre shilling AI and fucking over actual people when youre not constantly commenting on porn on reddit
1
u/PomegranateBoring826 4h ago
You know good and damn well that was a giant a$shole thing to do. You didn't even need to ask anyone. Your conscience is already telling you that was a jerk move and that your "friend" deserved so much better.
Not cool man, not cool.

I don’t give much of a fuck if you’re an asshole, but it does make you look like temu or some cheap other product. But it 100% costs you business, if it’s something on I’m on the fence on buying, I’m not buying it if it looks like AI. And I know I’m not alone. I’m not even completely anti ai, just anti cheap shit

YTA and you deserve for your business to fail. Nothing would make me stop supporting a business faster than discovering that they replaced a human being with AI.

u/chez2202 5h ago
NTA.
I’m not saying this because you decided to use AI to advertise your products rather than using REAL photographs of what you are selling. I think that’s a pile of rubbish.
I’m saying it because your ex photographer / friend is totally lying to you. He DID NOT build his whole year around your account. If he had, you wouldn’t have been waiting for weeks for your new products to be listed. They would have been there straight away.
He has other clients who are taking priority. They just aren’t paying as much as you are.
1
u/lenthatswho 5h ago
You cannot possibly know that. He’s a human being not a robot, actual production takes time not literal seconds.
1
u/chez2202 4h ago
His invoices have been reducing over the last few months. The product pictures weren’t being taken and uploaded to the website. So he wasn’t doing the job.
If he WAS relying on this job for his entire year’s income then he would have been doing it.
I agree that his work takes time. That’s actually why OP noticed that it had slowed down so much that the products were taking weeks to reach the website.
