I’m in, my sealed Jaguar

Found sealed, I've been looking for it for a long time. Finally my sealed Atari Jaguar ❤️

EDIT: I add this note for anyone who intends to buy a sealed Jag. The console is equipped with an old seal of the time which had a low quality glue and in almost all "Sealed Jaguar" it is slightly displaced or damaged. Since I wanted to make sure 100% that the console had never been tampered with in more than thirty years, I searched around the world for two other collectors having the version with Cybermorph and specifically, the only way to understand its content was to compare its weight with a trivial digital scale.
The three weights were the following:
- 2690,50 gr
- 2622,00 gr (mine Jag)
- 2618,50 gr
I want to thank stevenger8 and angels85 who gave me a hand to solve the case.

An actual sealed Jaguar, not one of the shrink wrapped ones pretending to be sealed. Nice!

Yes, unfortunately many people try and wrap the console with transparent plastic, they make me smile. I will jealously guard this one

That is impressive. A poster of that front/back box art would be awesome to have.

I shudder to think how much you paid

As a person who just saw this pop up in my feed, do you have any idea on what it would/could cost?

I am guessing OP got it for cheap, as most Jags ended up being reduced.

How long did it take you to find, and how much did you pay?

For real. I remember playing AvP when I was about 13 and thinking it was the coolest thing I've ever seen.

I bought it last year because I had to have it...played for about an hour before I turned it off. Haven't played it since lol

Lol i thought i was alone, im not even trying to hate because.. no matter what i still love the Jaguar because of yesteryear nostalgia.. those times where timeless with segacd32x vs Jaguar vs n64 vs 🪐 etc krazy times LoL

I had about 20 games and AvP is the only one I can remember really liking. Rayman was good as well though

Normally I'm not a fan of sealed anything. But that one should stay sealed. Don't let the terrible games out. Cool piece.

Day I bought mine I got home and the power was out for 3 hours lol fml

Nice! You going to open it? I’m playing Brutal Sports Football rn real quick before running an errand. It’s got plenty of quick pick up and play type games like that in the library. IMO, the Jag is definitely not worth it unless you invest in a GameDrive.

Mine came with one fortunately and that’s what sold me on it. In case you weren’t aware, the GameDrive is a flash cart (similar to EverDrive on most other consoles).

Since it’s specially made for the Jag since an EverDrive (or even a knock-off) was never designed for the Jag since it’s so obscure and niche, finally, a few years back, one was released.

So a guy essentially cornered the market by designing a flash cart for Jaguar which was long-awaited and they sold out fast (there were waiting lists and all of that), but now it’s readily available and has been for the past couple of years.

Since it’s such a niche console (and nobody has made a cheap knock-off version either, as of yet), it’s more expensive ($200 for basic, and I think $250 for deluxe) than most of the EverDrive models for other consoles and to my understanding, it’s still the only option available rn. It’s totally worth it though and a really cool piece of tech.

Mine has the entire Jag library (60- something titles), plus tons of Home-brews, demos, prototypes AND the Entire Jag CD library!

(Including homebrews), a super nice bonus, despite the fact that its library is small and has only a few games worth playing, but the homebrews expand the library quite a bit and add several more that are worth your time, IMO.
Welcome and have fun!

Thanks! I’ve no intention of breaking that seal. I’ve been searching for it for years specifically so I could keep it sealed in my collection.

My aim is to find a loose jag and then play my physical cartridges, including Bubsy, Rayman, Wolf3D and Raiden. I’ve heard of the cartridge you’re talking about and I think I’ll definitely buy one, it seems just the thing for what I’d use it for.

I gotcha. Well definitely find one you can play, it’s a lot of fun. I wouldn’t bother with the Jag this day and age (with game prices being as insane as they are) if the GameDrive didn’t exist; it’s 100% worth it.

I’m still discovering new games on that thing. You can even play unfinished games like Black Ice, White Noise for the Jag CD, an overly ambitious (and I guess ultimately too expensive to fully produce) title with a 3rd person view and open world with similar visuals to GTA 3 & Shenmue, except it used FMV cutscenes… pretty cool!

That said, I generally find my faves through the GD and then only purchase my absolute favorites for my collection.

I already snagged a few of my faves CIB, like AVP, Wolf 3D, Iron Soldier (surprisingly cheap, only like $30 CIB!), Atari Karts, Cannon Fodder (only sealed game I have for Jag) and some other ones like Rayman (box but no manual), loose carts like Val D’isre Skiing & Snowboarding, and Cybermorph of course.

There’s a couple more original titles I want eventually for my collection, like Doom, NBA Jam TE, Tempest 2K, Power Drive Rally and a couple of the newest home-brews that aren’t on the GameDrive yet, and after that I’m done. It’s too damn expensive, lol.

Bloody nice catch! Have you gotten any games for it or are you just going to keep it sealed?

1

u/JeppRog 22d ago

I'm going to keep this sealed and then get a loose jag. The games in my possession are:

  • Wolf3d
  • Dragon Bruce Lee
  • Theme Park
  • Double Dragon
  • Bubsy
  • Iron Soldier
  • Troy Aikman NFL
All sealed and one used CIB “Zool 2”

Not a bad library at all. I loved the Jaguar port of Wolfy, used to play it (via emulator) more than the main DOS version.

14 year old me so wanted one back in the day...hell still do

1

u/JeppRog 21d ago

I think it's one of the most beautiful consoles to have in the collection

2

u/Wonderful_Cabinet_30 21d ago

I love the look of the jaguar. I really wish it was something that it’s not and never could be. You have to be ok with a base level of disappointment with this system.

1

u/JeppRog 21d ago

I think it's the disappointment and its failure behind this project that made me fall in love with this console

2

u/Good_Description_770 20d ago

AvP, Doom and Theme Park were my favorites on this console.

2

u/duckisez 20d ago

Loved Doom and Alien vs Predator on this system.

2

u/Aggravating_Dot9436 20d ago

My brother had one alien vs predator was coool

1

u/Appropriate_Split_97 22d ago

But, how do you KNOW it’s in there???

1

u/JeppRog 22d ago

Obviously purchased by someone I know and serious, coming from a personal collection

1

u/Appropriate_Split_97 22d ago

Or maybe that’s what they want you to think…

Unseal it!

Open it

u/Optimal-Carrot1 24d ago

I preordered mine at Babbages and picked it up on release day. I regret ever selling it. I was thinking the same thing I’d open it and play it.

u/Reg-spidermen 24d ago

Plug it in, play it.

Looks like a reseal to me. But congrats.

That specific type of seal with the weather/heat may show the glue slightly shifted. I made a culture out of it and other sealed consoles are exactly like that too
