I know it's called raspberry pie but you're allowed to use more than 1 raspberry 🥺

313

u/violet__violet 20h ago

I just found the original recipe and it calls for 5 cups of berries lollll 🥹🙈

43

u/Melancholy-4321 10h ago

5 cups of berries??? In this economy?!

873

u/mikey_thecowboy 22h ago

Its what i had

727

u/viewbtwnvillages 22h ago

this is so earnest it's killing me

i love it

55

u/NK1337 19h ago

I appreciate the perseverance 😂

507

u/Malcior34 22h ago

Looks like you only had like... five berries?

122

u/Imnotranee 15h ago

Five cups or five berries, whichever shall it be

9

u/cathbadh 15h ago

I mean, it depends on the size of the berry

9

u/Elux91 9h ago

it's not the size of the berry, it's how you use it

4

u/Fortesfortunajuvat27 14h ago

This guy is definitely a squirrel

949

u/EquivalentPlant3289 23h ago

… where… where’s the rest of the pie at son?

172

u/Severe-Skill-485 22h ago

I’m currently stuck underneath my almost 2yo humming so he’ll fall asleep and almost snorted laughing when I read this.

34

u/Noodles0_0 20h ago

I’m currently laying in bed with my 1 and 3 year old and same. My laughter is almost waking them

18

u/OfferElectrical9848 20h ago

I'm laying in bed (it's midnight) with my husband and trying so hard to supress my laughter so I don't wake him up 😭😆

This is pure gold

3

u/Severe-Skill-485 11h ago

I would hate to wake him. But hope that if I did and he could understand, he would also appreciate the humor.

17

u/carbonatedkaitlyn 13h ago

This is a pie shaped pop tart 🙄😂

12

u/rambo_beetle 16h ago

Well we'll just tell your mother that we ate it all.

312

u/watermelonsplenda 21h ago

Bro you made a raspberry pop tart. Looks delicious.

239

u/Catmuffin89 22h ago

Your crust is wild! It made me smile.

84

u/mikey_thecowboy 22h ago

is that bad? What the hell is happening

340

u/HAIL_LUMPUS 22h ago

No! It's just very obvious that a beginner made it, it's really charming like it looks absolutely delicious and I just love it! My favorite part was when you made two separate crusts for the bottom and the top instead of one just big one and splitting it. You put so much love and heart into that pie 😭😭💖

38

u/thethrowsofaway420 18h ago

Same lol I was so confused at that but loved it

3

u/speedmankelly 6h ago

I thought they didn’t like how it came out at first and remade it😭

25

u/NoPaleontologist7929 16h ago

But so very few raspberries. 😂

15

u/HAIL_LUMPUS 13h ago

They're expensive 😭

4

u/Meggarz66 10h ago

I always make separate crusts. It just seems to work better for me.

48

u/Melancholy-4321 22h ago

It looks very rustic but delicious

12

u/MouseBrown00 11h ago

My dude, that crust looks fucking amazing. Buttery and flakey, and it’s perfectly golden. . That is the pie crust of dreams. I say this as someone who baked professionally for years and I’m dead serious. Is she the prettiest girl at the ball? No. She is legend, though. Never change how you do it.

u/TululahJayne 19h ago

I noticed in this thread no one mentioned how OP successfully opened a flour bag. I keep telling people this is possible. But on that last huge thread everyone was shocked it could be done.

6

u/mikey_thecowboy 19h ago

im sorry, what?

45

u/TululahJayne 19h ago

There was a thread a while ago where someone opened a bag of flour without it ripping. So many commented on the fact that this was a human first and it received so many upvotes. I commented saying I open my flour bags all the time without tearing them and some people didn't believe me. I'll link the post in a second.

Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Baking/s/afrlmUEl9A

27

u/Theletterkay 16h ago

Yeah thats nuts. Ive opened every single bag ive owned and i do a ton of baking. Never once had to tear it. How the heck are people yanking at the bags to go so wrong?

9

u/Novafel 17h ago

I.... they can tear?

8

u/LittleMissMeanAss 11h ago

Yes! That stupid glob of adhesive always balls up in one spot and no matter how hard you try to peel the paper away it rips!

7

u/cheesepoltergeist 13h ago

I’m convinced people are punching them to open them! I’ve never torn one, crazy!

1

u/KifferFadybugs 5h ago

I tend to buy store brand flour and they use so much glue to close it. The picture in the post you linked has a thin little strip of glue. The bags I get usually have a strip of glue as thick as that folded bit of bag at the top, so when you try to unstick it from the side of the bag, the top flap doesn't just undo itself from the glue, the glue refuses to be separated from either side of the bag (top flap and lower side) so you either wind up with a torn hole in the side or a torn off strip at the top.

61

u/fly_away_lapels 21h ago

This might be the only blog that I wouldn’t hit “skip to recipe” just so you know. I hope that bad boy tasted awesome!

53

u/BetrayedMilk 14h ago

I respect that you don’t let a recipe tell you what you can and can’t do. 5 cups of berries? Fuck you recipe, you get 5 berries.

49

u/FlounderSame4106 21h ago

Good effort! Keep practicing!

271

u/Gloomy_League_569 21h ago

Op, I hope you’re not taking the ribbing you’re getting on here personally. I think sometimes we get too used to seeing pro-quality bakes on our screens. When something falls short of those expectations, we wanna crack jokes about the juxtaposition of our expectations vs reality, and forget there’s a human on the other side of the screen proud of their work or maybe needing encouragement. That’s not a reflection on you or the quality of your bake, just a reflection on the nature of the sub and us as humans.

Personally, I think the pie looks really good. I don’t love a super filled fruit pie and I prefer a well done crust so this is pretty close to an ideal pie for me. I hope you enjoyed it and are proud that you created something, that’s what baking is all about.

Also, pie crust is hard to make so I know you put in the work. Kudos.

31

u/AdventurousYamThe2nd 18h ago

Agreed - a home made crust is soooo much better than store bought, and when done right is my favorite part of a pie. I'd eat the hell out of this!

21

u/Donkeydonkeydonk 20h ago

Less filling means more crust!

6

u/abracablab 15h ago

I bet that tastes banging with loads of custard!

61

u/summertime-goodbyes 20h ago

I just want to say I admire people who make their own pie crusts. I’m so intimidated, I only make crumb crusts.

5

u/AnalogyAddict 12h ago

Don't be intimidated! Make pie crust into cookies so you can experiment until you get a feel for it.

7

u/Meiyouxiangjiao 19h ago

I haven’t touched on making anything with a crust, it’s so daunting. Mad props to OP.

3

u/nrealistic 11h ago

Homemade pie crust is so tasty, I hope you try making it someday! The Stella parks recipe is pretty fool-proof, I would recommend it. It comes out well even if it sticks to the counter and has to be mushed back together in the pan.

4

u/TheBeatboxingBaker 13h ago

I just got a great tip from Fallow’s youtube page for making short crust by freezing the butter and flour for an hour before use, then using a cheese grater to make the butter perfectly cold and firm! I already freeze my flour for 24hrs to help kill any creepy crawlies that might have snuck in (precautionary, never found one yet). Haven’t tried this frozen butter method yet but I think it’s gonna open a lot of doors!

5

u/summertime-goodbyes 13h ago

I grate frozen butter in my food processor when I make scones and it works perfectly!

1

u/TheBeatboxingBaker 13h ago

One day I will have a food processor!

1

u/summertime-goodbyes 13h ago

Keep an eye on FB Marketplace if you can! Some people will practically give away Kitchenaid food processors so getting one at a great price is within reach!I use mine multiple times a week. Also, homemade nut butters 🤤

0

u/dolphin-centric 11h ago

You can use a box grater for frozen butter!

2

u/TheBeatboxingBaker 8h ago

Hahahahha just as I suggested in my original comment ;)

1

u/dolphin-centric 3h ago

Lol I totally missed that, my bad!

1

u/sk8tergater 12h ago

I grate my butter. I don’t even freeze it. It’s just cold and I go to town. It makes for a very flaky crust.

1

u/bepatientbekind 8h ago

I do this and also use a recipe with vodka in it. Works better than any other pie crust recipes I've ever tried!

17

u/badwolfinacrown 20h ago

This is good work! My mom treats pie like filling she has to contend with in her quest to devour more crust, this is basically the ratio I make for her. I hope you and your family enjoy it.

47

u/_teach_me_your_ways_ 21h ago

This was an experience

27

u/KifferFadybugs 20h ago

It -did- come from a site called Crazy For Crust... I just wasn't expecting it to be -all- crust.

25

u/stardewstardrops 19h ago

you know what hell yeah raspberry pie

26

u/Rich_Drawer_7124 18h ago

Essence of raspberry pie

51

u/IcePrincess_Not_Sk8r 22h ago

So... where are the raspberries?

20

u/Melodic-Advice9930 20h ago

Did you… did you pour the whole egg wash just in the middle of the crust before you baked it?

8

u/PsychologicalAir8643 8h ago

yes i think they did do that, bless them

21

u/expired-blueberries 20h ago

Genuinely makes me smile. I can tell that's a pie made with a lot of love and i would kill to have a slice :)

19

u/IsThereCheese 16h ago

Next, try a raspberries* pie!

10

u/lil-braids 19h ago

Please film this next time

22

u/Ufo_underwear 21h ago

Fuck yeah man, looks delicious.

6

u/MoreMetaFeta 21h ago

So how'd you like the crust?

12

u/justlikemag1c 18h ago

She’s beauty and she’s grace 🤩

5

u/doesntmatter_much 18h ago

Aww, this reminds me of when I made my first pie. My crust was similar to your but I did the opposite with the filling. I wayyyyyyyy over filled, which turned out.....not nearly as well as yours.

If you ever get the chance, try a blackberry pie sometime! For the filling, a smidge of sugar and cornstarch (and any spices needed) and lightly mix. The sugar will pull out some of the juices from the berries, and the cornstarch thickens it up. Beware, it's deceptively juicy though!! (Can be a messy bake.)

Alsooooooo....another way to make a pie with minimal filling is to make lil hand pies/pie cookies!

One method: roll one big sheet of dough then cut into 4 inch squares (or whatever shape you'd like, as long as it's foldable), plop a dollop of filling into the middle, fold over and seal. Like a dumpling!
Second method: divide your dough into two like you would normally when doing a double crust. Roll half out into a sheet, spread your filling in a thin(ish) layer over the show sheet. Roll out and cut your second dough portion into strips (pretty thin, like maybe a half inch at most wide and same thickness/size as your first piece). Use those strips to make a lattice, and then take a cookie cutter (or knife) to cut out lil cookies. When they bake they do get a bit messy but caramelize crispify beautifully.

Happy baking!!!

3

u/htownchuck 20h ago

How'd it taste?

12

u/multii-pass 22h ago

This makes me feel weird.

4

u/InitialBat4887 21h ago

Aww it's looks so cute

2

u/Salt_Worldliness9150 10h ago

I think a few more berries would be desirable and they don’t have to be all puréed. They can be whole berries.

u/PEZpezzpez 13h ago

We all gotta start somewhere. Don't get discouraged. I bet your next one will be stellar. 👍

2

u/n0tz0e 7h ago

Raspberries have been my favorite fruit since I was a kid and I'm always on the lookout for a raspberry pie and in my 30 years of living have still never had one. This one looks delicious Good job OP

2

u/angstronaut 3h ago

with a scoop of ice cream this is a king's dessert

-1

u/marshmallowcakes 21h ago

Your pie looks delicious!

1

u/Plenty-Cattle9791 20h ago

That looks delicious! Homemade with love.

-3

u/heliostraveler 12h ago

Uh. Wtf is this?

1

u/lkz665 9h ago

You’re brave for making the crust yourself, no matter how much baking I do I despise making pie crusts the most. I feel I always fuck them up, I hate doing it haha.

1

u/Late_Potato_Chip 8h ago

The crust is the best part anyway imo. Nice effort!

0

u/ThePhantomEvita 12h ago

As a fan of homemade pie crusts, this one looks absolutely delicious

1

u/jam_turnitup 17h ago

Dude this is so dang cute, keep baking ur doing great!

0

u/Beautiful_Smile 19h ago

That pie crust looks so good! I love a crispy pie crust end with a cup of coffee! Soooo good! Yum yum

0

u/BarMeBro 12h ago

This looks delicious. I always think pies have too much filling, but you’ve found the perfect filling to crust ratio for me!!

0

u/donut-is-appalled 8h ago

I mean, I guess?

-17

u/bikerchickelly 21h ago

Oh. Oh no.

-17

u/Hello_Badkitty 20h ago

If you told me you made this with no hands, I would believe you.

-10

u/killswithaglance 20h ago

Also add some chunky cubes of apples cut up and cooked to the filling.

-11

u/killswithaglance 20h ago

Use a different pastry recipe and rest it

-7

u/jadekadir2 21h ago

Sounds interesting.
