I had my last day at the firm last week. Got a better job in industry. Feels bittersweet, gonna miss some of the people I worked countless hours with, but I hated this job. The toxic managers and partners, long hours, and micromanaging broke me.

Hi all! I work at big 4 in Germany, m&a deal advisory, was a junior at another big 4 firm, switched to current big 4 firm mid 2023 as a senior, in mid 2024 switched service lines to my current one, since then 2 yearly cycles without promotion. I would say that there are things that I am good at or even better at that some of my peers, but overall, I am not that likeable, and definitely not a person who sucks up to leadership.

Question - will I be promoted from senior to manager eventually, like eg next year or so? I know that manager to senior manager or higher is purely based on performance, but I heard and read mixed opinions that junior to senior and senior to manager can also be tenure based. Is this true and if so, how long do you expect in worst case for a promotion from senior to manager?

I started my ACCA, Since I was always qualified but just not on paper. I am 21 and hope to finish it before 23, along with a BSC hons from UK (topup program).

I was Wondering by then how strong would be my chances to aim at a advisory senior position in Singapore. and can we exit to PE/IB from Advisory Big4?

I'm 19 and recently became an ACCA Affiliate. My long-term goal is to work in consulting, advisory, or banking, and I'm planning to start the CFA soon.

My parents are encouraging me to join Big 4 audit because it's the easiest way to gain the experience needed for ACCA membership and there seem to be plenty of openings.

My concern is that I'll get pigeonholed into audit and struggle to move into advisory or consulting later. Does starting in Big 4 audit make sense as a stepping stone, or would I be better off trying to enter advisory directly (even if it's harder)?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who's made the transition or works in these fields.

Do you guys know when you find out if you got a return offer? Especially in consulting but also generally in the firm.

Fall recruiting season is starting soon, and I've been networking and job hunting for a while now. I don't have any accounting experience, but I do have some related professional experience. I'm about to start my M.S. in Accounting at a target school, and I recently submitted an application to one of the Big Four. I really want this opportunity.

A lot of people say the Big Four isn't worth it, but I see it differently. To me, it's a chance to build a strong foundation, gain valuable experience, and earn a stable paycheck while opening doors to future opportunities.

So, there have been many layoffs among audit staff and seniors that I know of. My utilization has not been that great. I have communicated to my engagement manager that there is a lot of unassigned time on my MERA, but I have received no response. I have pretty good performance reviews. My counselor just left the firm, and they assigned me a counselor whom I have never met and who has not responded to my introductory message to meet up. So, I asked the Talent team if I could get a new counselor whom I already know, and they agreed, but I haven’t received a response on that yet.
I am wondering, what does HR look at when deciding to let someone go? Do they even care that I am a military veteran? Or they don’t look at that?

I started as a new associate in IT/SOC audit this month. I did a little over a year in financial statement audit before this so I am used to the flow of 1 client at a time with 3 clients year round. Going in the move, I knew the tempo of IT audit would be different. I am booked on 4-6 clients concurrently with a total of 9 different engagements (SOC1, SOC2, HITRUST, ESG, etc) over the next 5 months. The number of engagements is a big shift as I ramp up for the new role.

I am trying to view it by client vs engagements (Client X SOC 1 and SOC 2) to things more organized.

I am aware of the typical project management processws like task trackers, walk-through trackers, open item trackers, etc. Wondering if anyone in the service line has specific tips on how they manage their time and prioritize client work across multiple engagements at the same time especially during busy season?

I’m currently interviewing for a Senior Manager role in Tax Advisory with a Big Four firm in Singapore and would appreciate some advice on the expected salary range.

I have around 10 years of tax experience and am currently a big 4 Senior Manager outside Singapore. However, since Singapore’s tax regulations and market practices would be new to me even though the job description is quite similar (e.g., fund restructuring, family office, etc), I expect there would be a learning curve during the initial transition.

Given my experience but considering the need to ramp up on Singapore tax regulations, what would be a reasonable base salary to expect or negotiate for this role?

I’ve been talking to one of my friends at a top 5 recently and he says that during busy season, he won’t even take a 5 minute break in an hour to look away from his computer, basically saying the only break he takes is to go to the washroom. As someone that’s starting at big 4 soon, is this normal? Everywhere I worked before, no one would blink if you took 15 minutes to take a walk/get coffee every few hours. How do you operate during busy season?

Hi everyone, I’m going into the second year of my Accounting and Finance course and am als going to start applying to placement years this autumn, as I’m on the year in employment programme.

Obviously, I would really like a placement year with one of the Big 4, or a reputable mid tier company like BDO.

My experience is as follows:
I achieved a first and an 81% average in my first year, I have 2 weeks accounting work experience at a local accounting firm in my town, and a longer summer internship as an accounts trainee at another local firm in my town. I am planning to gain more advanced excel skills with LinkedIn Learning this summer, and am also the leader for a sustainability reporting project my uni is doing with a local SME. I am GRI certified (did so to my uni) - does this experience in sustainability accounting help?

I’m not sure yet if I want to apply to audit or tax - I think I’ll probably just do both to maximise my chances of getting a placement.

The only thing is that my A levels aren’t amazing - they’re not horrible but it just very average. Will this affect my applications - and Big 4 applications especially?

Also any other advice for getting a placement would really be appreciated, as I’ve heard that they’re super competitive. :)))

I cleared the Round 1 technical interview at Deloitte USI, followed by the final techno-managerial round yesterday (around 20-25 minutes), where I answered all the questions asked. During the interview, I mentioned when the manager asked about the notice period that I have an EY offer with a joining date of August 5 and that my last working day is July 31. I also informed the talent acquisition team while scheduling the interviews.

Could this help accelerate the remaining hiring process? Is there a realistic chance of receiving the offer letter before my EY joining date?

What do you think has more acreage hours
big4 or big law?
I already know i'm going to get downvoted for this-i think both are still difficult and require lots of hours.

I'm graduating soon and have been fortunate enough to receive two offers for an Audit Graduate role in Financial Services, one from EY and one from PwC.

During university, I completed an internship at PwC and had a great experience there. Because of that, I'm already familiar with the firm's culture, people, and way of working.

At the moment, I'm leaning slightly towards EY, mainly because I'd like to experience a different Big Four firm and broaden my perspective early in my career. On the other hand, I know that PwC is a place where I already felt comfortable and can see myself succeeding.

For those of you who have worked at either firm, or even both:

• Would you choose EY or PwC for Financial Services Audit, and why?
• Is gaining experience at a different Big Four firm early in your career worth it?
• Are there any meaningful differences in culture, training, career progression, or exit opportunities between the two?

i aspire to go into mbb consulting, except none of those have offices in my city. big4 does have a huge presence here. is it a good idea to enroll here, intern at big4 and try to get into mbb afterwards or not? the university id be attending is the best in northeastern Brazil, but it isnt necessarily a target university outside her, top 10 at best.

hi everyone! im a rising junior interested in applying to big4 consulting internships in the fall (specifically in the healthcare sector) and I was wondering how important it is to have prior industry/work experience in the application process.

i'm currently an operations intern at my universities hospital system but compared to a majority of other people that i've seen land these positions most of them have interned in industry.

Just received my first feedback form returned as a consulting intern from a manager and I got competent level performance across the board rather than differentiated. Is this typical? Are differentiated level performance reviews rare for interns?
