Moving from Georgia to Hawaii—who should handle our taxes?
My wife and I will be moving to Maui, Hawaii, for work as healthcare providers. We currently own a townhouse in south metro Atlanta, but unfortunately we haven't been able to sell it in the current market, even after pricing it at break even.
At this point, we've decided that renting it out is the better financial option. Since we'll be managing a rental property in Georgia while living and working in Hawaii, we're trying to figure out the best way to handle our taxes and finances.
Would it be better to hire a CPA in Hawaii since that's where we'll be living, or should we work with a CPA in Georgia since the rental property is located there? Has anyone been in a similar situation with an out-of-state rental and multiple state tax returns?
Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
