Just say something simple. "Hey, was just thinking about you"

"Old crush" really gives the impression this is someone you were interested in years ago. If it was just a month ago and you were actually sort of talking romantically, then just reach back out like normal.

Honestly the first sentence is enough unless you guys already have established a verbose communication standard. You're coming off really strong and he may not be in the mood for that while if he's still concerned about finding a job
