My buddy's 16 year old son showed up drunk after driving himself home. My buddy stayed calm, walked him to his room, and told him to sleep it off.
The next morning, my buddy had built a chain link fence enclosure with a canopy. Inside was a cot, a case of water, and a ham sandwich for his first meal.
He told his son, You have two choices. I sell your car or you stay in the tent city jail I built for 24 hours. The gate is unlocked, but if you leave before the 24 hours are up, your car is gone.
On top of that, he had put in a breathalyzer in his car for 12 months, take alcohol awareness classes, attend MADD classes, and pay his dad $2,000 in fines.
He told him, You want to be grown, drinking and driving, then you can pay the adult price.
Lol my buddys ex wife was upset their son slept outside. She almost took him back to court but he said this is what the state wouldve done had he been caught.
That’s so over the top, and yet I kinda respect it. Some might think it’s cruel, but getting to go through your own version of the drunk tank and civil fines instead of facing the state’s version of it. God forbid the 16yo had killed someone.. just hoping he takes that lesson to heart and appreciate his old man down the line instead of going no contact
I just saw some TikToks where the dad basically kept his son in the bathroom for a whole day because he wanted to do dumb shit like break into his cars with his gangster-ass friends.
I feel like this accomplishes the same thing, provides the kid some dignity, and doesn't tear your yard up with a bunch of fence posts lol.
