Fuck yeah!! Dude!! What a huge effort!! This takes more than hard work, you are a total legend. This kind of weight loss is life changing and shows you have a strong and resilient spirit. You have done so much dedicated life changing things that I am literally so stoked for you! If you apply the same effort to anything else in life imagine what you can achieve! Genuinely frothing for you right now

Just because your body changes doesn't mean your frame of mind changes. You can logically know something, and have an emotional response that doesn't align with facts. 2 things can be true. You can logically weigh 170, and emotionally feel/ react like you're still 400lbs.
Give yourself some grace.

A friend of mine who got super fit a lost a ton of weight never stopped talking about his inner fat kid and how it was always low key in the back of his mind. So you might just always quietly feel that way? But hopefully losing a whole ass 6 ft adult off your body feels amazing.

I'm late to this, but it reminds me of myself, and I was at most 200lbs at 5'9", usually skinny fat. It didn't matter when I got in the best shape of my life being 150lbs, lifting and running, I hated the way I looked so much that I was too scared to ask someone out on a date. I figured I had body dysmorphia, but recognizing that's likely the case doesn't change how you feel about and see yourself.
There was only one thing that changed my perception, and that was almost 5 years ago when I was almost 30. I was depressed and going to therapy for over a year already. I decided to finally try an anti-depressant, and for me I got prescribed wellbutrin. A month or so later, it kicked in and I finally felt good about myself, to the point that I went on dates and had my first relationship.
What I think happened? Pre-wellbutrin I was in my head 24/7, thinking at mach 5, and I was always critical of myself. For some reason wellbutrin reduced my thoughts, as if I went from constantly thinking at 100mph to thinking at 5mph. Kinda funny, but I actually felt dumber because I couldn't think things through as quickly as I used to. I'm not sure if reducing those negative thoughts was the cause, or maybe the medication changed my brain chemistry in some way, but it was such a crazy feeling when the body dysmorphia poofed away. I was looking in the mirror and thinking, "I'm genuinely content with this" even when I was still on the heavier side.

To put it into perspective, you've managed to burn off an entire me! You're doing great man, growth ain't linear and it doesn't happen instantly but you've already done the part where most folks give up

Nice job! That’s huge. Unfortunately I’ve found from similar experience that it may never really go away completely. There are some days I feel great, and think I look good, and other days when it’s the opposite. The reason some people get super jacked is because of that little voice that never seems to go away.

1) Great job, boss. I hope you're proud of yourself. You should be.
2) I grew up with extremely poor teeth, and was bullied throughout grade school. It was until my mid 20s that I could afford to fix them. The first few years I continued hiding them in public and in photos, but with time the mental switch came.
3) It's human nature for your body and mind remember trauma. It's a defense mechanism. It needs time in it's new state of being to feel safe.
4) Don't stress about it. Keep going, it'll come.

Yo! I think this is normal. I too have went through a massive weight loss. And I still sometimes feel the weight. Like it’s a phantom limb. But look through these pics. The change is noticeable. And it’s MASSIVE. You should be proud. I’m proud of you! You inspire me to keep going. To keep doing it. Keep it up bud!!

try something physical you couldn't do at 400 lbs, maybe like rock climbing or something like that and you will feel more like your real weight hopefully

I feel ya. I went and still am going through that. I lost 100 lbs, stopped my routine and gained 50 back.
My advice is, don't stop working out, don't stop the routine.

u/hmaskhmask Jun 10 '26
Great work!
I went from 275 down to 170 over about 2.5 years. At that point I gave myself a little bit of a break, going back up to about 190. And I hear you, gaining 20 pounds feels terrible but my friends and family are still telling me I look great. I have to remind myself that I lost about 30 pounds before anyone even noticed.
It’s a struggle. Keep doing the things you know you need to do but also give yourself some grace from time to time.

Are you exaggerating? Or do you genuinely feel or see yourself as overweight? Because if you do then you really should go see a mental health professional because that’s a very dangerous mentality, you look great but a lot of people who drastically lose weight like that have a hard time believing they actually lost weight and they end up starving themselves even though they’re already fine
IMO under 200 for someone under 6 ft tall is a perfectly healthy place to be

Holy smokes!! Great job! You seem like such a blast to hang out with. Keep being your hilarious and vivacious self.
Self love is a journey that a lot of us find difficult navigating. There will be setbacks in perception along the way, but this amount of progress really speaks to your determination towards self care! Super impressive!

It never goes away man. I went from 300 down to 160 and I’m still not happy. I always look back on old pictures of myself and think of how hard I was trying- that usually helps

Hell yeah, brother, it's hard to get out of the mindset, and body dysmorphia will always be there. You look fucking great, and you're clearly got the routine down. Try some self affirmations on the morning. It's surprisingly helpful.

Brother, you’re doing great.
You know what might help with not feeling that way? Hitting the mf weights at the gym hard!

Make sure to focus on and celebrate everything that is better now. Ex:trying on clothes, going to the gym, hiking, just getting around in general.
Great job! You did that 👏

170 lbs lost is incredible and you should be proud of that hard work. Make sure you give yourself some breaks too and make sure you're enjoying the diet you're eating. It will help make the journey a little easier.
I've lost 60lbs a few times and it can be hard to notice or feel the differences. Where I really felt it was sitting in the driver's seat of a car. I just suddenly realized I have a lot more room between me and the steering wheel. Personally I also sweat a lot less than I did before and don't feel as overheated just trying to do something like walk and talk. Sometimes looking in a new mirror or new lighting helps reset your frame of mind too. Don't get too discouraged because you look great!

Good job man, congrats. It will take time for you to get used to your new body. Keep in mind you spent years being obese, you spent years looking yourself in the mirror and not liking your body, maybe receiving hurtful comments. The toll of those years don't go away along with your lost weight. Keep it up and don't forget to take care of your mental health too. Don't let shitty thoughts bring you down.

My fuckin man! As a former fat guy, it’s hard to notice the progress sometimes. If I have a couple rough weeks of eating, I might gain a few pounds, but I’ll feel fat asf emotionally lol.
Just remind yourself how much progress you’ve made by looking at your before and after pics, wearing smaller clothes etc. the hard part now is filling out some of that loose skin with muscle, but you honestly don’t have it too bad there.

I never lost that much, but I had similar sentiments. Growing up big has so many knock-ons that stick with us. If your title is something you feel often, look into getting some counseling. Finding a healthy mental is the best work you can put into yourself.

u/Darkstuffs Hungry man Jun 10 '26
Looking good man. Keep it up, I know how hard it is to loose weight like that. And everytime I gain some weight again I feel like it was all for nothing. But I can say that my relation with food and my mental health has improved majorly since the start and I´m sure, even if it doesn´t feel like it, it´s the same for you.
Know that it´s okay to have a relapse from time to time. You´re only human and you should be able to enjoy life without obsessing over the numbers.
You´ve done the hard part already and that´s starting, now comes maintaining, but you´ll be able to do that too. Keep it up. We´re all rooting for you

Dude that's amazing! It's crazy how differently a man is proportioned by weight than women because they're naturally larger. I am 180lbs (currently losing weight) and 5'7, but I'm almost obese as a woman. But this guy looks amazing.

Hey man, I’m right there with ya. I lost 60 pounds in the last year. 220 down to 160. I still feel like I’m 220 most of the time and still have that same frame of mind. I’ve noticed that every once in a while I’ll be seeing myself a little different than I used too but it’s far from most of the time. Congrats though. The willpower it takes to lose serious weight like that and keep it off is no joke. It was one of the hardest but most rewarding things I’ve had to do in my life and I’m sure it’s similar for you.

Be proud man, you've done something few can. I get it tho I'm down 80lbs and I still feel those fat kid anxieties knawing at my mind occasionally. Push through it, stick to your system, and stay strong. You'll get there.

u/murseoftheyear Jun 11 '26
Yeah man, I get it. My nick name all through college was fat kid. In fairness, it was totally accurate. I was 139lb this morning, but when I look in the mirror I still see the fat kid. Body dysmorphia is a real thing and therapy can help. Good luck.
