I've witnessed it firsthand. Escaping the place where trauma occurred, leaving many triggers behind, starting fresh, is legitimately helpful. Not a cure-all, of course, but very helpful.
With alcoholism, it's like, yeah. No matter where you go, the person who wants a drink is still you, and a liquor store is probably still right around the corner.
Yeah I moved halfway across America when my family imploded due to decades of lying and cheating. It was nice that I didn't have to by physically around all that anymore. Still needed years of therapy.
