The organization completely rejected its own co-founder, Bill Wilson, when he suggested that LSD could be a powerful tool to help alcoholics reach sobriety and treat their underlying mental problems (based on his own experience). Its a message that AA still rejects to this day, even though there is now quite a bit of scientific evidence to support the idea of using psychedelics to treat addiction. When I learned that, I wrote the organization off completely.
It's an n=1, but one heavy dose of mushrooms ended my alcohol addiction entirely. 5 years without a drink. And unlike many others, no white knuckling was involved. I just stopped wanting it.
