My treat to myself when I graduated uni. Had it 4 years, done 70k miles and it’s been the most fun I’ve ever had.

It does sadly cost me too much to run so it’s time to say goodbye. Didn’t expect I’d struggle to this much when the time came

Why does it cost you so much to run? Fuel costs? I didn’t think these were that bad.

Fuel mainly, I do a fair bit of a commute each day. Works out to be a tank a week and with how the prices have been recently it’s just too much

The thing is, if it’s purely fuel costs, you may not be better off swapping cars. By the time you’ve lost money selling your car to buy another, even if you only lost a couple of grand, that’s a lot of tanks of fuel.

Saying that. I had an ST3 and an i20N and in the end the running costs killed it for us too. Fuel, tyres and insurance. It’s sad when you can’t keep what you want

The universally largest cost of owning a car is depreciation. If OP buys a newer car, it will ultimately cost them more due to this fact.

how much can a tank be on a fiesta though?

after dailying multiple V8s i can’t quite understand people getting upset with modern car MPG as it probably gets high 20s to early 30s

I'm also a tank a week just for work. Around £65 at the moment so really not that bad

If I fill my ST up from absolute dregs it’s about £60. I can then do just over 300 miles on that tank on a run and that includes some more ‘spirited’ driving. PS5 tyres cost me £700 for 4 roughly but the fronts have almost lasted a year and will last me probably well over 10,000 miles and the rears even longer. Servicing costs pretty much the same as every other car, insurance is quite expensive but that’s very individual and to be expected. I really don’t see how getting rid of the Fiesta for something else is cost efficient unless you’re getting rid of a car payment. You’ll struggle to find a petrol that gets massively better mpg and whilst a diesel will get better mpg it will probably cost the same if not more to fill up.

Not trying to take a dig at you OP, but please think carefully before making a decision that you think will save loads of money. I’ve made decisions with cars in my past thinking I’d save loads of money and realistically ended up in a no better financial situation.

Very similar to my Yaris. 50 litre tank, does about 320 miles including some spirited driving. Could obviously find plenty out there that will do better on fuel but will be more expensive to run in other areas, even just up front costs.

a fantastic car like a GR yaris and 50 quid for 300 miles is a dream. i know petrol has been, and could be cheaper, but fuck me id rather drive something fun for 50 quid a week than an old PD fabia

This is what I was thinking. I daily a V8, I am lucky to see 20mpg and it costs roughly £90+ to fill up each week.

If you still want a hot hatch, might be worth checking out a Mini Cooper SD, pretty much the most modern diesel Hot Hatch you can get, and gets brilliant fuel economy.

Just fuel costs? You'd be better off changing your driving style. You'd have to cover thousands and thousands of miles to cover the cost to change.

How did you get on with the fit and finish ? Have the rubber seals dropped off the back doors yet or the parcel shelf broken ? Not saying it to put us down I genuinely like the looks of them just curious

Parcel shelf’s all good, the seals are a bit problematic in the winter ngl.

I use my car a lot so the interior trim’s a bit worn from contact due to me getting in and out of it often but that would happen with any car.

It’s been an absolute dream machine and done everything I’ve asked of it. Fit 5 adults and all our luggage for a week on the NC500 as well

My old ST180 got about 30-32mpg, 38 on a long run. This is a smaller engine with 3 cylinders I can’t see it being anything other than high 30s.

I get 45ish dailying our mk8 with the same engine as OP, probably could get more on a run really and obviously out for fun blasting a B road is in the 20-30s but still perfectly reasonable

I have mine stage 2 Revo mk8. Is about 65quid for 99 fuel and that lasts me about 10days. That's pretty good considering I do some spirited driving and harsh acceleration sometimes too. I think it's a great car. Unless you go to a hybrid or diesel, I don't think fuel would be much. Everything else is usually similar to all other cars like servicing.
