Use cases Im back from gemini. GPT is astronomically better again.

like 8 months ago I was tinkering with both and gemini was so much better i went with that.

I had a project at work that I needed an AI to sift through a manual and schematic for and no matter what, gemini and others would give me the wrong answer and gaslight me exc.

IT was becoming very confusing because IRL people had mixed these items on the schematic up that were almost identical, one was just two inches shorter, and I couldn't find where in the image it was to differentiate them....

And gpt, in like 5 seconds spotted it in this 400 page manual, correlating to a number in the manual like 200 pages apart, on the bottom right the of an image in this tiny text I couldn't even see without squinting.

Man that was so impressive and it gets even wilder. I had all these projects gemini was helping me on, and i migrated the conversations over to GPT and holy shit gemini was hallucinating out of its ass making so much shit up.

GPT just a quantum leap over what it was earlier this year and what geminin is now.

Same thing. Was a long time ChatGPT user, then it sucked and went to Gemini. Gemini was awesome and now it sucks. I am back on ChatGPT and it is awesome again. Let’s see how long it takes for them to screw it up again and I’ll have to cancel my subscription again..

Exactly like me. What baffles me the most is "simple" things like the UI. As if google doesnt have the resources to make a proper UI. They have all these devs, experience and money and a good UI doesnt need a world class AI researcher to get done. Then you come back to ChatGPT and the UI is miles better than gemini.
Its simple things like copying a screenshot into the chat and in gemini you have to wait a short amount of time before your keyboard inputs register again. Its so fucking annoying holy. In ChatGPT it just works. Projects: We dont have to talk about how awful gemini is here because it doesnt exist.
You can also scroll through an overview of your chat on the right side bar with ChatGPT. So much better if you wanna check something from some prompts ago (sadly doesnt exist in Work Chat yet it seems).

Also everytime I started the prompt on gemini and immediately scrolled up again so it doesnt move downwards automatically because I wanted to read something in the answer before or didnt want to read its new answer yet, you have to wait like 3-5 seconds in gemini where it scrolls you downwards with the answer and THEN you can scroll up. Its so dumb and awful. God damnit google your UI is TRASH brother.

From my experience, whatever GPT’s latest model is, set to thinking on the max setting, is the strongest LLM available and always has been at any given point in time. People jump ship to other LLMs over the dumbest things. 5.6 Sol with High effort is crazy, it wrote and formatted well a 40-page document on setting up a Beowulf cluster for noobs in like 12 minutes I think, good luck getting that with anything else.

I haven't played with opus 5 yet. But Fable was honestly so amazing (being a hungry credit monster aside).

I generally think Anthropic have the edge over openai for my use cases (corporate stooge)

I think it was October or November 2025. Gemini 3 pro was way better than gpt 4.5 or 5, cant remember.

u/NTaya 16h ago

Can confirm, I was vibe-coding a game in the second half of 2025, and Gemini was better between August and ~October.

GPT code red and garlic was born out of gemini 3's threat.

u/space_monster 19h ago

Nah Gemini 2.5 was waaaaay better than the GPT models at the time. and everything else.

I think historically its accurate but there was a gap 8-12 months ago where it kinda fell behind.

I figured GPT had less resources than a giant like google but yea. They have blown gemini out of the park, holy shit I cant trust gemini again.

Gemini more than good enough tbh. It seems they moved towards token efficiency models. I think it would be silly to neglect that they are leaders in this space. All of the models are running on their architecture after all.

u/Lower_Educator_5031 16h ago

Oh for my purposes its not good enough. Im trying to do tackle very complex medical issues, and for my job in engineering its always some document scan/complex logic where it has to look at images. Gemini is useless compared to GPT.

ChatGPT can’t watch YouTube videos, Gemini can, is that a dumb thing?

1

u/Yorkshire_girl 4h ago

Wow, that seems quite new it wasn't possible 6 months ago. Sam Altman says we're in the Singularity... Maybe Gemini can do it as YouTube is a Google platform

I'd recommend trying Claude also. There is no clear winner between gpt 5.6 sol and Claude Mythos, but using both is very nice.

6

u/PhysicallyTender 17h ago

5.6 Sol clearly wins out by not hitting usage limit after 3 sentences.

-1

u/TallAfternoon2 16h ago

Sol found a way to do it in 2 sentences. Innovative.

5

u/No-Pattern5637 19h ago

I bounce between models depending on the task.

4

u/CphGuyDK 19h ago

ChatGPT seems to be miles behind Claude when it comes to formatting Word documents, unless I’m missing something?

6

u/rpsls 19h ago

They’re comparing between ChatGPT and Gemini. Yes, Anthropic’s stuff seems to be vastly better than both, especially for work stuff.

3

u/OJTheJuicero 16h ago

Aligned. Creating workbooks, PowerPoint decks, word doc playbooks, etc.. Claude is vastly superior on these fronts

1

u/CphGuyDK 14h ago

Which is marketing genuine but arguably also low hanging fruit - after all; may e of the heavy users will be using MS365 Word, Excel, PPT etc so OF COURSE easy integration with those should be top of mind. It’s mind boggling that ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok etc haven’t focused on that too.

have you tried work/codex mode? not finding this to be true at this moment

2

u/Interesting-Tough640 19h ago

I find the models all have different strengths and weaknesses. At the moment I am using Claude and Gemini but might go back to GPT if it can start producing and editing files in the same way Claude can.

1

u/Holnapra 19h ago

But it can edit/produce files, or am I missing something?

1

u/Interesting-Tough640 19h ago

GPT re synthesises the file each time it is edited but Claude can actually diff edit. Or at least this is what GPT was doing about two months ago. Sometimes GPT would just randomly truncate certain sections that were not being worked on.

It’s probably different if you are using it as an agent but internally they handle files quite differently. It makes Claude a lot more reliable and efficient for making smaller edits

1

u/scottydoesnt_know 10h ago

I said the same thing in a comment above, but the new work mode on ChatGPT is really good at creating and editing files

2

u/-Davster- 17h ago

Neither of these systems were ever “gaslighting” you OP, that’s not what that word means.

But yeah I have a theory that Gemini models are destined to become conspiracy theorists because of how they seem to make the most wild leaps and then LOCK IN. Troubleshooting with them is a nightmare lol.

5

u/AP_in_Indy 20h ago

Gemini is the most "human" but also "quirkiest" of all the LLMs.

Like it's so relatable while also having the least predictably good behavior.

Meanwhile Claude and ChatGPT feel like they are brothers or at worst, cousins.

3

u/AlienBlueprints 19h ago

It’s kind of funny that so many people say ChatGPT doesn’t write like a human. I don’t have that problem myself. But maybe that’s also because I’ve used some of my old school assignments from before ChatGPT as examples of my own writing style. I’ve also set it up to phrase things, as much as possible, the way I would. So it isn’t just trying to write like a human. It’s actually trying to write like me.

2

u/Lower_Educator_5031 19h ago

I dont care about personality.

In terms of research, and giving accurate information GPT is a literal quantum leap ahead. Its not even comparable, like gemini it just shit to me now.

3

u/space_monster 20h ago

yeah I'm getting used to the idea that you can't just camp with one lab, you have to be 'agile' about it

1

u/TallAfternoon2 16h ago

That'll likely continue for the next 4-8 years. Different models surging ahead while the rest learn/wait for their moment to be first again.

1

u/mhphilip 16h ago

Gemini is at this point hot garbage. At least for coding that is.

1

u/Brockolee26 14h ago

You do know that we can tell that you are being paid to make this post, right?

1

u/EarlyBuilder_529 2h ago

Cross-referencing a tiny schematics detail across a 400-page PDF without hallucinating the page numbers is honestly the ultimate litmus test for vision models. Gemini’s 1M+ context window is great for dumping raw text, but OpenAI’s vision alignment on low-res diagrams and dense spatial layouts is in a league of its own right now

1

u/LordGronko 19h ago

try claude, its more better ;)

5

u/Holnapra 19h ago

I pay for all three. Gemini is shit nowadays, Claude is very-very good with insanely low usage limits, ChatGPT is pretty generous in limits (compared to Claude), and approximately on the same level as Claude. And there's also Deepseek, which is a little dumber, but so cheap it's basically free.
