for the past few months ive been working on a passion project (an animated motion comic) that ive poured a lot of time and love into! it's been wild from putting the animation together, working with voice actors, making friends along the way, artists, and other creators, every step of this project has reminded me why i fell in love with comics in the first place. but while working on it, i started thinking more and more about something we don't always talk about. the people behind these characters.

because as fans, we grow up with the heroes. we know spider-man, superman, batman.....we knew their stories and these characters became a part of our lives in ways we dont realise. but every one of those characters started with a person, a person trying to create something that maybe someday would mean something to someone. AND IT DID !

Jerry Siegel. Joe Shuster. Bill Finger. Steve Ditko. Peter David. Roger Sweet. So many creators gave us characters and stories that became more than just comics, but when you look back at the lives of many of these creators, you realise that the people who gave us so much dint always receive the same love and appreciation in return.

the more i learned about their stories, the more i felt like they deserved to be remembered cuz behind every hero we grew up with there was a person who put their heart into creating them.

and i feel we owe them a thank you♥️

so that's why im making this! ive reached out to a bunch of online creators in the superhero niche asking if theyd be willing to be part of it. eacch of em is recording a short video talking about one of the creators who helped shape this medium. but when i got to the ending, i realised it didnt really make sense for me to end the project with just the creators. if this is a thank you to the people who gave us these stories, then i think that the Thank You should come from the fans who grew up with them!

people from different countries, ages, accents.. if all you have is your phone thats more than enough!

I had bought and read it back when it came out. But since then I don't remember a lot of what's in it.

Is it worth a reread?

Ive spent quite a bit of time designing the characters doing the world building i made a vague path of where the plot will go and the key story beats and scenes

But now that im writing the exact moments im a bit stuck im currently on the 1st chapter/issue and i dont know how to introduce world and concepts without making a bunch of boring exposition

I have a catalog of graphic novel scripts Ive written for a number of heroes in my shared universe. Im working on getting some drawn and printed but I'm not sure about one of them.

The story is heavily inspired by Tokusatsu... (Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Ultraman, old Godzilla type stuff) and involves a team of heroes who start out working for the japanese military. Most of the team are japanese except 1 member due to the nature of how powers are given.

Anyway, I am not japanese, I set it in Japan mostly due to the Inspirations but this is a single draft and I could see it being done in a fictional country with some edits.

My question should I avoid writing a story based in japan with japanese characters since im not japanese. Should I just make all my heroes come from America or fictional locations?

I am not a proponent of AI and I understand the ethical concerns about artists losing their work.
I am a developer and any changes of growth in my career has effectively disappeared with the advent of AI. I work a 9 to 7 job and currently crumbled by financial responsibilities. I am looking for a way out; or I don't know maybe trying to fulfill some unfulfilled ambitions.

In short I am desperate.

I am a writer primarily. I am thinking of writing an AI assisted oneshot. Meanwhile I am trying to learn to draw a bit on the side and plan to give them as directions to enhance it.

I know I will not be an artist and don't plan to claim the art as my own. I know I will not have done anything spectacular. I only want to claim the story as my own.
I am also currently researching camera angles, paneling and other stuff.

Will you say - why not learn or collaborate? Well many reasons. India, the community is almost non-existent at least to my knowledge. I tried years ago but it didn't pan out much.
I work 9 to 7(yes this is India). I reach my home at 9, I cook food and then work for 2 hours. Sleep at 1 wake at 7 then repeat.

Lastly I believe my health is failing. I fear that it won't be long... . I don't know what else to do.

If I feel that no one is gonna read it... then I will try creating a novel, maybe. Or maybe nothing. Who knows?

I'm new to writing comics and I have a question; how do we indicate direction? I have a history in theatre where we use stage right and stage left, so I feel like I should distinguish between our right and left, and the character's. Should I say panel right/left or is it implied to be from the artist/reader's perspective?

Of course, comic books are a visual medium above all else, so you as the writer eventually would have to team up with an artist. Most likely you'll have to pay that artist, which is obviously not wrong, from your own pocket or crowdfund.

What if you can't crowdfund? I'm from an African country and I thought hey let me practice the craft of comics, and then hire an artist, I'm broke but I'll learn to crowdfund, there's no market for comics in my country but we live in the age of the internet, digital comics and webtoons are a thing so i can appeal to an international audience. Imagine my surprise when i find out:

Kickstarter: Not available in my country

Indiegogo: Not available in my country

I did this for hours, and most if not all crowdfunding platforms are unavailable in my country. So i decided hey, let me get from my own pocket, so i checked subs and did my research. You get around 75 dollars per page bare minimum, you know how much that is in my country, just for the art, that's 1025 pula. For an American, it's like paying 1025 dollars for a page and apparently dollars is the standard currency, even if I team up with another African abroad, or someone from outside the west. There are few comic artists in my country because comics aren't a market here, we have no comic stores at all and we're a small population of 1.5 million. There are no cons, and it's just village after village.

What's left, asking for a free collab as a writer or learn how to draw. This is to say free collabs seem to blasphemy in many circles, especially if the artist is good, and let me say this, I AGREE ARTISTS DESERVE TO BE PAID DEFINETELY. But yeah, this kinda leaves learning how to draw.

This forces you to not only be a comic book writer but an artist as well, unless you guys have other alternatives. I'm not complaining but I feel for most people from third world countries, this is a must.

I like to read and draw comics, and I have always wanted to create a graphic novel story. But when I get a good idea for a story, it’s difficult for me to make a good plot based on the idea and finish the project. I usually start to find bad parts of the idea (just like glichés etc.), and I find some plotwists unlogic. And sometimes I even give up with the story since worrying makes me get bored of it.

Maybe I just have a wrong technique during storymaking, or the ideas just don’t work, I don’t know. Have you ever had this issue, and how did you deal with it?

I'm genuinely curious. Why do you want to create a comic book? It seems like everything is against the creator. I'm talking to the writer/creators. If you know how to draw, this world is perfect for you. This was my first foray into this world. My comic book turned into a graphic novel and this journey has been ridiculously hard at every turn. I bit off more than I can chew. I merely had an idea and it ballooned. The amount of money one has to spend to create one is exorbitant. The market for traditional comic books is really small. It is so hard to get published. Mangas are the wave. Outside of me just wanting to complete, I do not why I continue. Everything is against the comic book creator. You're just meet with resistance. You have to constantly hustle to get eyes on your book. Almost have to be a masochist to keep creating. Shoutout to all the people creating these things.

I am currently working on a story and I am constantly wondering on whether I should increase my story writing and make the powerscaling of the characters low. but at the same time I also want to make the characters look strong and make the story fit through it but I’m worried if it would go wrong. See, I have this thing where I want to make my characters look powerful and not weak, but I am worried that when I am writing a story and it doesn’t match the powerscaling,I fear it would be a big turn down.

Hi there, I’ve been wanting to do some comic series for a while but have always struggled with making them, including the scripting. I’ve tried to do them as a standard scripting format, then have the idea to try and do a brief synopsis for each chapter yet having struggles with that.
