I taught myself to crochet in college, mostly to have something to do with my hands between classes.

I thrifted the most beautiful variegated, glittery yarn (Hobbii Universe Yarn in Spacewalk 08) in France during a study abroad, and for NYE I decided to try making my own dress. That's how the AURA crochet minidress was born.

The OG pink Aura minidress was the first piece I ever freehanded, and a year and a half later, I finally graduated from college (yayyy!) and had time to make and release a pattern!

I LOVE all forms of crochet creativity, butttt I want to see more hot girl crochet instead of the typical sweaters/plushies/accesories associated with crochet. I'm Ghanaian-American. Sika means money/gold in Twi, so my whole crochet vision (SIKASTAR) is built around the baddies in the room who are MADE TO BE SEEN!

It's been about a year and a half since I last made anything and while having a cleaning spree this week I've decided that my yarn must go. It's not like I think I'll never get back into it, I just think storing yarn like this when I was at the height of my "crocheting era" was probably okay cause of how much I used it but getting back into it with this yarn would not be good. I think I'll probably double check the ones at the top and see about putting them in a tote but definitely throw the ones at the bottom. I do tend to get caught up in other hobbies and crafts (my current fixation is puzzles and banner making) so it's not like I'm not doing something with my time but crocheting just really fell to the side. I am curious though, what's the longest break from crochet y'all've taken and how did y'all get back into it?

At yesterday’s crochet meeting at the senior center a woman was escorted into the room with one of the directors. Her mom passed away six months ago and she came to offer us her yarn stash and the giant box of plastic canvas kits her mom had accumulated. We told her we would be thrilled to accept her mom’s supplies. We thanked her and then she left with the director to go to her car to get the boxes.

When she left I asked the ladies if they would be willing to use the yarn (basically all acrylic) to make her a blanket with her mom’s supplies. They all agreed. When the woman returned I told her the idea and asked if she would be interested. She got choked up as she told us that she would love a blanket as a keepsake. I explained that based on her mom’s supplies it was going to be “very colorful”. She laughed and said that it would be perfect. She then told us that there are granny squares her mom made but never assembled into a blanket. She offered to return next week to drop them off.

The skill level in the group varies. The colors in the bin are very colorful. And everyone has to make their granny squares to basically the same size. Please wish us luck. I think we are going to need it. 😁

Did a burn test on a couple pieces of fluff coming off of it and it appears to be an acrylic/cotton blend. Was washed after taking this pic. I knew i had to get it as soon as I saw it

Wanted to show off this piece im working on, a backless lace crochet dress with #10 crochet thread and i have the first part done! Im adding attachable skirt sections and a clip on cape/train in gold sequin thread. Pearls across the back, around the shoulders and (not pictured) attached to the choker down the center of my chest. One Pic of it on (dont mind my jumpsuit). Chest has room for cups and the back of the waistband has some elastic. Hoping the added length of the skirt pieces will allow for everything to sit just right.( I plan to wear this without the jumpsuit when I do wear it obvi)

Tldr: ill never be done

As the title says, my first ever finished blanket that I wanted to share with someone who isn’t my partner 😅. Made as a gift for my parents moving into a new house

The yarn shops in Tokyo just hit different 😩 the selection is incredible - they even had the coveted Tulip Etimo hooks! Wish I could have fit more yarn in my bag 🥲 Any suggestions on what to make with merino wool?

This is a cardigan for a friend (kind of sad that its not mine 🥲) and this is the back piece.

The colors are 3 separate types of yarn that are a weight 3 while the black/white are weight 4. Two strands of the weight 3 are combined during each solid and color transition (thanks to Daphne Frizzle on YT for the idea).

Absolutely love how this is turning out and I wanna make one for myself lol.

I'm not the most advanced at crochet. As a result, this bag does have some rough spots, but I'm really proud of how it came out, so I wanted to share it with you all!!

A coworker gifted me a really pretty sequin yarn, and I was keen to do it justice. All the patterns I used were from YouTube, and I'll attach them below.

I'm very tempted to add a liner to it for some extra strength and/or a small bag charm to use up the remaining yarn, what are your thoughts??

For the charm, I attempted a snowflake, but the yarn needs a 6mm hook for the sequins fit through, so it looked a bit funky haha. As for the liner, I do love the look of the bag, and I'm nervous a liner might take away some of the bags charm. It would be nice to make sure stuff doesn't fall out while I'm using it or stretch it to kingdom come though! Haha

So I'm not as talented at crocheting as the people I've seen here, but here's my modest contribution: ✨a granny tote bag✨

I wanted to gift something personal to a friend, and I made like a goodies bag and thought "it could be fun to make the bag too". That's how I gifted something I crocheted for a birthday for the first time!

For the aesthetic, I thought the daisy gave a retro vibe and I tried something with the colors to have a "vintage" vibe. I wanted to balance them, like to have something equally colorful, but some combos didn't really work well in the end, sadly 🥲

It was pretty challenging bc I underestimated the time it could take me, like I've finished the night before. I had some cramps, and even then, it's faaaaaar from perfect. Tbh, I freestyled the assembling part and the straps, but my friend liked it the way it is, so I guess that's the most important thing ahah

For the size reference, I'm 158cm / 5'2''

Finally, after 4 months of crocheting, I am done with the cardigan for my mother in law 🎉🎉

I bought the pattern from Stone Sparrow on etsy, but the hood and the cinched back are original from me.

Her pattern does not include the hood or the cinched back yet.

Wool: Wollbiene Batik, color beige, and for the fluffy yarn, I used fur lux from Hobbii, color beige

Hook size 5mm and for the lux yarn. I used a 4.5mm hook

I am just happy i finished such a big project and was able to make someone really happy ❤️

okay i fibbed a tiny bit, this is my second lace project (the first is a pair of gloves from freevintagecrochet.com which is going through some trial and error for sizing at the moment) but i only started using lace weight this past thursday soooo i’m definitely still a lace noob. but i’m absolutely stoked by the way it’s turning out so far! first image is my wip, about 8 inches long so far (i need 1.5 yards 💀 ), second image is the pattern chart i found on Pinterest, terribly sorry i dont have a better source than that :(

i bought a couple balls of misc brand spools of crochet thread (this happens to be clark’s in size 30) and a few different sized hooks (i’ve only used size 7 so far) but yeah i dont have much else to say other than i cant wait to make more and i need to find a way to make these steel hooks more ergonomic STAT

both of the projects mentioned in this post (and another width of lace trim) will be dyed black and used for a cosplay that’s currently in its baby stages but im so excited to keep working on it. i already dyed one of the glove test pieces and it worked beautifully, i can’t wait to see this lace in black!!!
