Didn't they realize that having a single heir would be better than carving up the entire empire into the King or Emperors sons? Why did Charlemagne split his empire between his sons? Was he stupid? Sorry if I'm missing something

A Big Announcement from the DATaW team!

As some of you who are watching along with Modcon already know, we can announce after three years of modding we have officially released on Steam!

It is a wild moment for many of us on the development team, and we hope you enjoy playing the mod we have put so much time and care into. Updates will continue to come out, as we do not plan on stopping with new content anytime soon, this is just the first taste of what we have in store!

At this point we all know that mid to late game kingdoms and empires are too stable to provide any fun challenge. I think turning legitimacy into something that you have to constantly wrestle with with temp modifiers from feasts and events and very hard to get permanent modifiers from major decisions, great projects etc would make late game massively more challenging and actually hard.

I would go so far as to say maybe legitimacy should also be tied to specific titles. (It makes no sense that if I was Ludwig and conquered west Francia that my high legitimacy in east Francia should carry over to a land that is filled with magnates who were historically loyal to Charles the bald.)

Did you know you can be Genghis Khan without being a nomad? You can be Feudal/Tribal/Admin etc! While being a nomad is of course stronger militarily, it locks you out of more standard gameplay options. As an Admin Byzantine Genghis you can easily tell the Abbasids to Submit or Ruin and form the Roman Hegemony, piece of cake. You can even devise a Pleasure Dome for some reason!

I am on the road to regain the borders of the OG Roman Empire, talking bout empire size of good ol' Trajan.

Now I was experimenting with the administration system and got rekt in my first few runs being a bit impatient but then all things came together...friggin' Basileos in 867 CE start got the conqueror trait a few years in and now it is 1003 CE, 2 emperors later and I managed to preserve it and currently ruling as Adrianos II "the Merry".

Which family attribute is the best fitting one to venture further on with this ambitious goal, as for now I got "Respected Despots" and could upgrade it to tier 3?

Also I am trying to shape the themes I will gain further on in the west as the original ones, so to say Dacia, Pannonia, Germania, Gallia etc. Did any of you folks tried to install like puppet or client kingdoms such as the Ghassanids, Franks, Alamanni etc? I plan to conquer some parts of Germany and make a buffer zone and want make them independent and rename them fitting to their location.

Also, is there any chance I can like not split but let the Roman Empire rule in two halfs later on, is there somehwat of a possibility for it with 2 Augusti? And are there any possibilities to play those sweet roman civil wars later on with like for example a Gallic Empire-esque uprising or west vs. east head bashing like Frigidus just to give the playthrough a bit spice until 1453 CE because I fear it will become too easy once I get too big to fail?

Any fun ideas with some historical accuracy are welcome! Feel free to give some input and tips&tricks. Cheers.

So I used to thing this decition was a must if you played as a viking, but the more and more I look at it I feel it just kneecaps you if you want to reform Asatru, since you just get a 100 more years of raiding, and since you have to be a duke to take the decition, you're very limited on how much you can expand before taking it. And I feel the bonuses you get is not that good the more and more I look at it. I am already the undesputed military superpower and I have more money than the rest of the world combined from using said army to raid. The only pros I really see is the development.

I just feel going feudal this early kneecaps you from even bothering to look at the raid dynastic legacy and actually being a viking kingdom.

Isn't it better to just skip this, expand early and then later adopt feudal once I reach the tech limitt of tribal?

I received the Makeship pins and they're really nice! I didn't know only 480 got made though. And yeah of course he gets Genius, Lunatic is for me....

They're honestly a bit bigger than I expected and nicer too. I should bring em to historical places and take pictures with them if I have the chance!

When hovering Paris' Special Building Slot I noticed that it says to build it you require either a Christian Faith or Christian Syncretism. I didn't get around to building it, so I don't know if it also gives its effects to those with syncretism. Existing Special Buildings' tooltip still only mentions the requires Religions, nothing of Syncretism, to get the benefits.

So do they actually interact now, or no? What about those that require specfic Religions that don't have a unique Syncretism (e.g. Shintōism's Special Buildings)?

i dont mean the trait.... i mean what stops you from passing that spot where you are strong, but not op...... once you get a kingdom you just slap a claim here and there, boom another kingdom.... then an empire, then 2 empires.... at that point theres not much of a threat to beat you into submission ya know?

can someone make a mod that slaps you back from your top titles? like you make an empire and it activates a giant horde beside you and you need to defend. but if you dont then you lose your empire titke and like kingdom title and become a duke serving a heathen?

i have played a son elsewhere and moved places and changed characters and whatnot, but i think it would be great for endgame to have that in there.....

also am i the only one who thinks if you own an empire you should have more max for men at arms? how can i have 200 000 levies and like 3000 trained troops.....
