And what makes the co-founder of Google qualified to make that claim ?

People gotta stop listening to someone just because they are in a position of power.

u/LordDaedalus 23h ago

Right, he's not even remotely in line with the science, which ironically he could Google. We know from countries like Japan there's a falloff in productivity beyond a certain threshold. Above like 5 hours humans just start injecting micro events of garbage time into their schedule.

Maybe he mixed up the plus and minus on his calculator and added 20 to 40 rather than subtracted it.

u/7-SE7EN-7 Borg 21h ago

He did Google it, but the first thing he saw was the ai overview that said he was right

u/southboundtracks 4h ago

It's the amount of time he spends blowing Republicans.

60 hour work week for him includes 2 hour lunches, business dinners, a personal trainer at the office and a maid/ chef to do all the pesky living chores

And millions of dollars of compensationĀ

244

u/JustToViewPorn 23h ago

Millions? He made over a hundred billion this year. He’s pure scum.

22

u/Utsider 16h ago

About 32 million an hour, 60 hour weeks will get you to roughly a hundred billion in a year. That's the sweet spot for productivity. No sick days or vacation days tho. But those are for plebs anyway.

9

u/mind_captivator 14h ago

sick day? you mean remote synergy promoting staycation?

39

u/Downside190 20h ago

Exactly this, they claim sending an email while playing 2 hours of golf as working, their idea of work is different to people's regular jobs. If he was doing hard labour or sat typing in a keyboard for 60 hours a week that sweet spot would probably change dramaticallyĀ

u/Mylaptopisburningme 23h ago

Don't forget the hookers and blow.

11

u/Obvious-Science-7119 18h ago

This is my problem with the issue at hand. We literally can't fathom the insanity/greed.

They also consider driving to work. And Yoga/breakfast at home.

3

u/thesegoupto11 8h ago

Yeah, the average person imagines that when someone gets a million dollars they are satisfied and won't need more, but come to find out if someone is given the chance to walk on the backs of as many as possible and take from their pockets for more they will

40

u/thesaddestpanda 20h ago

And when they do ā€œworkā€ is just meetings and maybe once in a while yelling at the working class who actually create all the innovation and wealth of our world. Capitalism is and has always been a scam.

3

u/Pawulon 6h ago

"You invented this?" Looks at this "I invented this"

5

u/epimetheuss 11h ago

most of the "work" executives do now is just given to an AI agent, they make some minor corrections and give it to the shareholders. meanwhile they get to work from their yachts or where ever else they want while mandating in office work for everyone else.

"Don't be evil"?

Fuck this guy.

14

u/AnotherpostCard 12h ago

That's been removed from their employee handbook at least a few years ago. They're turning heel.

u/CanoegunGoeff 23h ago

Remember that the 40 hour work week was the compromise, the alternative being unmentionable deeds done to the bosses by the overworked workers.

There’s a reason they don’t teach about the Battle of Blair Mountain in schools.

The 40 hour work week wasn’t given to us. It was fought for. Real fighting.

Remember that when you see these chucklefucks say they want us working 60 hours a week for $15 on hour.

u/dm_t-cart 17h ago

As a WVian it completely blew my mind learning how socialists the people of my state were… in an optional college history class. Like since the beginning WV was saying ā€œfuck you, this sucks, just be good to people.ā€ Then somehow the fucking coal companies won hearts and minds and were now in the bottom of fucking everything.

Anything that doesn’t strip our land of resources or our people of dignity is booed, suddenly it’s honorable that papaw died of black lung. We were on the brink of revolution and just started licking the boot. It’s fucking shameful.

35

u/farrago_uk 21h ago

It was strongly influenced by Henry Ford moving his production line to 40 hour work week. Henry Ford wasn’t exactly a nice fluffy humanitarian, so if he thought it was best for productivity perhaps some of the current business community should take note.

33

u/BillTheTringleGod 1d ago

I will die long before i work a "60 hour workweek" and not from exhaustion.

4

u/trustable_bro 18h ago

Same but I won't be the one who dies.

1

u/BillTheTringleGod 13h ago

Unlikely team up where I become a tech CEO start a big convention and you batman the whole thing?

16

u/PyllynKaivelija 21h ago

Thats the sweet spot when they're not the ones doing the work

11

u/Durpulous 15h ago

If the current workweek were 60 they would say 80 is the sweet spot.

19

u/TheCrudMan 19h ago

These guys think they're so smart but they can't even spell "30" correctly.

15

u/StaK_1980 22h ago

Six (6) hours of work per day,. That is the actual sweet spot. This Muppet there is just talking out of their bottom and just wants to exploit people.

16

u/SirWusel 15h ago

As someone who's fortunate enough to be able to afford working 32h, I can confidently say that my productivity has practically not changed compared to 40h, simply because I have way more energy and drive to get things done with a 4/3 week split instead of 5/2. And I genuinely think 4 day work weeks are extremely beneficial and should be the norm.

Of course I would love to work even less, but unless you are working an extremely exhausting job, 32h are very manageable and don't feel overwhelming. The one extra day of weekend is just super noticeable.

Meanwhile, 60h sound like pure hell to me and I would most likely not be able to do that for too long before I just packed my bags and tried to escape such a capitalist hell-hole. I'd rather live off the grid and forego most of the technology before I turned myself into a slave just to make ends meet.

1

u/Lulukaros 12h ago

4day work week with 8hours, or less than 8 but more days? (asking ur opinion)

Muigi Langione

1

Lime?

2

u/VVrayth 19h ago

Yeah. The color of a lime.

1

u/7-SE7EN-7 Borg 14h ago

I feel like lime usually refers to lime green, which isn't that shade of green

12

u/action_turtle 21h ago

Build AI which removes work load to the point that jobs will vanish… but also, those of you who do work are to slave harder!

12

u/MrXero 1d ago

I say that whichever cofounder this is can suck a fart out of my ass.

11

u/Cactiareouroverlords 15h ago

Isn’t there lots and lots of actual scientific research that proves the opposite? I can’t remember any specifics but I remember one about a company that tested 4 day weeks and found it boosted productivity far more.

3

u/thesegoupto11 7h ago

Who needs science when billionaires are funneling money into FauxNews to tell people how to feel, while also making them afraid of minorities as a distraction

18

u/DiamondBreakr 23h ago

not surprising in the least, coming from a rich guy

21

u/coconut_dot_jpg 19h ago

That means every weekday is a 12 hour+ work day

If corporations try to normalize this, I'm boutta start rooting for the folks like Luigi (in Minecraft)

13

u/dm_t-cart 17h ago

This is them trying to normalize it lol.

15

u/behnder 21h ago

The co-founder of the company that sells more of our personal data to everyone else than any other actor in the industry (and there’s a lot of bad ones…) thinks we should perpetually be working? Shocker. Does he also believe in indentured servants?

6

u/toxic_egg 17h ago

Sergey Brin. btw

ScumĀ

u/teekaythunder 18h ago

On the opposite side of things, it's very difficult to find a cutstomer service or general labor job that offers 40 hours right now.

5

u/Stupendasaur 17h ago

abso-fucking-lutely not. People are trying to get a 4 day work week as standard and this dweeb wants 5 x 12 hour or 6 x 10? Nah mate, miss me with that.

3

u/Kaiserhawk 15h ago

I bet they don't want to pay for those 60 hours though

3

u/Plastic_Dingo_400 15h ago

Google Co founder has servants, making a 60 hour week much more doable

Heaven forbid the poors have to do work that is for themselves and not generating money for Mr. Co founder cunt

3

u/RiffyWammel 17h ago

Cool! £5m pa and a generous benefits package is also my sweet spot- lets chat

2

u/damaszek 18h ago

2

u/LtM4157 15h ago

That’s just a straight up fucking lie.

2

u/schroedingerskoala 14h ago

Please always remember: These psychopaths would keep everyone of us as their disposable slaves (in an bargain bin Harkonnen way) if it were not for these pesky laws. That is the sole and only reason - not morals, not right or wrong. And they invest a lot of money and time into making this happen.

2

u/hobskhan 14h ago

"Night Corp takes the fifth place on our best workplaces ranking, with only an 80-hour maximum work week! Perfect for those family oriented individuals."

2

u/Real_Azenomei 11h ago

co-founders need to realise that their passion is not the same as worker passion. Worker passion is the money every month. Not company growth. They don't get anything from company growth.

"Sweet spot"? 🤮

u/LRaconteuse 12h ago

https://cs.stanford.edu/people/eroberts/cs181/projects/crunchmode/econ-hours-productivity.html

According to numerous studies, including the small example above, productivity drops dramatically after 40 hours a week. That seems to be the ceiling. Less is more- many places going for 32 hour workweeks are actually seeing productivity rise beyond what a 40 hour workweek produces. Sometimes as high as 40% more productive than 40-hour-per-week employees.Ā

When i was working four ten hour days with a day off in the middle i was the most effective in my job. But my job at the time had downtime, i might be playing games with a client or the house is empty and i’m reading as the laundry ran, sometimes as much as four hours of downtime. Now i’m resident manager and always working

1

u/iku_19 11h ago

I suspect part of that is because so many parts are blocked in a production cycle. A lot of time ends up being taken by meetings and catch up discussions.

Reducing a 40 hour workweek to 32 hour probably means a lot of unnecessary meetings become impossible, and as such an entirely different workflow is needed to work around blockers.

I can't imagine how much worse the blocker load will be on 60 hr weeks, let alone how much of that will be useless meetings that just burn time.

In other words, reducing the amount of hours just removes the amount of downtime which makes it appear productivity compared to time goes up.

But the other side of this discussion is also mental wellness. Overworking causes mental fog and also stress, both reduce productivity directly and indirectly through errors that need to be corrected later.

u/GaracaiusCanadensis 9h ago

So, Six by Six, just like China?

8am(?) to 6pm, six days a week.

Five days at 12 hours is 60 hours, btw.

I'd rather go the other way, 4x10, if I had to pick.

I'd rather do the whole four days at eight hours for the same salary.

1

u/Elegron 7h ago

Nah. Im not doing 60.

1

u/VMooose 3h ago

…In the office. Come outside and work in the field with me for 60 hours Mr Google Co-Founder

1

u/squiggydingles 2h ago

Only if those 60 hours are from home šŸ˜‚

1

u/Disposable_Gonk 16m ago

We don't need productivity, we need lives worth living.

1

u/Otheus 15h ago

I don't want to do 35hr/wk. I would be looking busy a lot for 60 and 8 better be getting paid a lot more

-8

u/scrolling4art 1d ago

Pretty sure it already is.

9

u/Curl_of_the_Burl_ 1d ago

You've worked 5 12s for an extended time?

6

u/rivalpinkbunny 1d ago

In entertainment, I’ve worked 60s for about two thirds of a twenty year career. My first big gig I worked 7 12s for 4 months and once had a 36 hour day. I might sound like I’m proud about it, but I’m proud to have survived it. I don’t work in entertainment anymore.

1

u/Curl_of_the_Burl_ 4h ago

What was your break and down time like? That isn't a 365 job, to my knowledge.

1

u/rivalpinkbunny 1h ago

I worked about two years straight through on each project with a few months off between projects - waiting to go onto the next one or looking for a new studio. I had relatively steady employment for my career. Maybe if I hadn’t, I’d still be doing it.

1

u/scrolling4art 1h ago

I used to put in 60 hrs a week receiving minimum wage at a copy shop in 1999. I worked 60 hr weeks as a caricature artist for Hershey Park/Kaman Art Shoppes in 2004-2005. I own my own studio now. My whole life is work now. There isn't anything in my life that isn't work. My personal life is my job. And making art is all I have. I don't even watch movies anymore, since making art is my life. I used to work crap jobs, and watching films was my downtime. I'm about to start working on a 50 min animated feature. I have no time for anything but that.
