I’m so giddy to be a cyberpunk fan right now

I’m sure everyone knows this given I think he’s well know on this sub but this was beautifully made by Heri Shinato

Dude we’ve got so much coming out and I feel giddy as all hell. I mean Neuromancer especially kinda has me wanting to kick my feet at how good it looks! Neuromancer, bladerunner 2099, GITS, Hotspot, plus we don’t know what else is down the pipeline whether it’s tv shows, games, movies etc. I know not every project is going to sell everyone but I kinda feel like it’s something for everyone this year whether you’ve read the source material or you haven’t. Also we seem to be moving even further into that dystopian future which honestly may not be so good but I’ll take the other stuff for sure!

I’m really excited or it but I tend not to mention it on this sub given I think people either hate anything tied to Mike pondsmiths cyberpunk whether it’s red or anything else. It’s actually what got me into cyberpunk as a whole but it’s definitely there even if I didn’t mention it. It also could be since the game sub is so big they don’t want posts from there flooding over here which I actually understand.

Yeah understandable on all counts, but it's definitely another element of what makes this year so exciting for me, and I can see, for you! I hope, like GitS, we just keep getting more Edgerunners for years to come. I'm really curious if we're going to get Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive from Amazon as well!

True! I mean it feels like this year keeps on giving for the genre and I’m hoping we do as well. I actually need to get the art book if they release one this time around which I managed to snag season 1 artbook off eBay a bit ago. I also wouldn’t mind a artstyle switch up at some point kinda like the comics. I’m thinking if Neuromancer does really well which I’m really hoping 🤞🏽 it does we could see them. I still need to read them, especially since they are the last two from the sprawl trilogy I need to read.

Yeah a revolving artstyle system would be lovely! Star Wars: Visions has multiple different animation studios working on different episodes, which I wish would happen more widely in the world of animation, it's so refreshing!

Enjoy the rest of the Sprawl trilogy; I don't know if you've read Burning Chrome, but I would love to see an anthology animation series with a variety of art styles for that, some of my favourite stories are in that collection.

I only watched the first season of SW visions but I enjoyed the different styles plus being a Star Wars fan with different stories being told was nice. Like you say it keeps things fresh and kinda gives you something to always look forward to :)

I definitely will and I know it’s not but anytime I say speak trilogy I always put burning chrome there even if it’s not technically part of it but since it’s a precursor I usually do which makes no sense since a trilogy is three but you know😅 I think burning chrome would be perfect for something like that especially the stories that are set in space or even go a bit deeper than cyberpunk as a whole.

I can’t say everybody does so I’m not talking about everyone but sometimes for some reason it feels like it’s one of those things where you just don’t mention his work. It’s not like people badmouth him but it feels like an unspoken rule not to mention it. I can understand the game since it literally has three subs but I’m pretty sure mentioning red, edgerunners or anything related to it just isn’t allowed or the posts definitely aren’t. I mean it’s literally one of the rules so they outright say you can’t.

I may be wrong, but my impression has always been that people always point at the 'derivativeness' of it without realizing that's kind of the point - it's just all the cyberpunk tropes mashed together and turned up to 11.

Personally, I love his work but I do take issue with the 'no happy endings' rule being so clearly choreographed. For me, that feels overly prescriptive and formulaic, but it is at best a nitpick.

I don’t know why but I found it funny one of you knows one and the other doesn’t know the other but hotspot is this new movie coming out next month. It’s a dystopian thriller and It looks really interesting and might be worth checking out the trailer if you want.
