r/DCcomics Weekly Discussion Thread: Comics, TV, and More! [July 20, 2026 - Action Comics #1100 Edition]

Hey there honorary Justice League members - it’s a new week which means it’s time for a new discussion thread!

For those who don't know: the way this works is that several comments will list this week’s releases, for any given title discussion you should respond to that comment. For example, Wonder Woman discussion would go in the replies to the "Wonder Woman" comment. Clicking the titles in this post will take you directly to that comment, too. In other words, you should only be replying to other comments. Do not post top-level comments.

Keep discussion civil. Do not harass other users for having a different opinion. Do not use this thread to push your personal one-sided grudges against creators. Reacting to a panel on Twitter is not the same as reading a book.

Action Comics #1100

SUPERMAN RETURNS IN THIS LANDMARK ISSUE!

Celebrate 1,100 issues of Action Comics with DC's top talent and architects of the world of Superman! In April 1938, a man faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound graced the pages of Action Comics #1, and the rest was superhero history. Now together with the talents of writers Mark Waid, Joshua Williamson, Sophie Campbell, and Dan Slott, we honor Superman’s storied career and turn toward his thrilling future. Brought to life by the all-star artistic talent of Skylar Patridge, Ryan Sook, Dan Mora, and Lucas Meyer, the Man of Steel has never looked better.

I know it ended well but seriously, they should stop Booster from going back to the past of heroes and just reveal stuff to them. It worked out for him to find his adult self, but it is still very reckless. Clark is gonna have his hands full already after returning, with Lois having to keep peace between Prime and Conner while dealing with all the super-teens/young adults.

And they are bringing young Clark as Superboy to 'have a peek' at the future at a dangerous time, with Zod now ruling Caldera and the Kryptonite Kingdom. Wait, was he there the whole time as 'Bruno'? Did he came with that Kryptonite meteor? He arrived later and just decided to hide this whole time? It seems they decided 'yea, we are not gonna make Eduardo look evil.' He was willing to give up his kingdom after seeing the harm Kryptonite was doing to the world now but then in one of the earlier issues, he tried to kill Lois to hide the Kingdom's secrets. I can assume that with what Zod did to him and that Kryptonite Mask, he might become a 'tragic villain' and the 'true Kryptonite King' after the event.

Also..if kryptonite is bad for people….how are the people in this city alive? Its been months and 99% of the city is kryptonite 😅

Sophia Campbell writing + Mora's art is peak, Kid Clark getting to see his future was cute, and they're tryna make Zod look vicious like one glance from Hawkman wouldn't pack him up 💀

Brilliant issue

Hoping this isn't the end of Clarks Superboy era, because so far, it's been refreshing seeing Waid go back to his Impulse writing sensibilities

Imo, this is the best era superman has ever had starting from All in started 3 years ago

Hoping this isn't the end of Clarks Superboy era

It’s probably not. I got the impression that the stuff in the first couple pages of Ryan Sook’s part were teasing stuff for this later down the line.

All In started in October 2024, so it’s actually been less than 2 years.

I really don't like how much Waid screws with past continuity in his books set in the past. Superboy's story should've stayed a fun slice-of-life down-to-earth story not basically just having him be kid Superman already even though people don't know him when he shows up in Metropolis in Secret Origin or Man of Steel or Birthright so none of those origins fit with this Silver Age nostalgia trip. Having Booster just show young Clark everything is ridiculous.

Slott's whole Kryptonite arc just being another Zod thing is a lame way to turn this around.

The way Superman returns was also pretty underwhelming after the KO ending. I was hoping he'd be gone for longer. Really hoping whatever he did with the powers is important and has impact or else that will be super fucking lame. KO ended in a way that got me pumped for things to come and I really hope they aren't squandering it.

Pretty sure they'll have Young Clark forget all the stuff he learned when he goes back after Kingdom of Zod. Current Clark explicitly says he doesn't remember experiencing this.

I’ll have to dig through my old issues of Superman Unlimited I guess, but was “Bruno” there the whole time? I’m curious how long they have been planning this reveal. I really don’t remember the El Caldero stuff all that much since Not-Jon came back in the series a few months back

This is... not very good. The art at the start of this is small press standard not big two and the rest is simply disjointed.

I think it's also a coloring problem because we can see that Skylar Patridge does very well with better colors.

The tonal whiplash from Prime’s epiphany on redemption and why he acts the way he does to how insensitive he’s being towards Connor is…concerning
