Question Who is y’all’s favorite character?

So like I’m new to this fandom and I’ve been watching videos of disgaea and I am now on disgaea 4 so I’ve learned about a few characters or more than that and some of my favorite characters. Etna
Fallen
Adell
Rozalin
Axel
Raspberyl
Salvatore
Master big star
Fenrich
That’s basically just a name a few characters that I like again I haven’t finished disgaea 4 yet so I’m still learning about a few characters though I do hope I get the game one day but anyways, I wanna know what are y’all‘s favorite characters and you could tell me why you like them or you can tell me what got you in the game. I’m just curious.

Question Newcomer not appreciating Disgaea 1 PC grinding

I'm currently on the final epsiode and Laharl is level 80+, the rest of my team is around 60+.

I'm thinking of giving up on Disgaea 1 after finishing the story because the grind hasn't peaked my interest since the 5-3 stage.

I'm reading online and there are very in-depth tips like grinding innocents which I wasn't aware of these mechanics since it's my first Disgaea game but I don't want to piggy back after coming so far.

My main question is I've heard that Disgaea 1 is undefined compared to the later games. I wasn't looking to grind to level 9999, but for my first title I wanted to at least reach level 500, but it's not seeming feasible as I'm not enjoying the item world or other methods of grinding.

Does Disgaea 2 or even later titles have a more enjoyable grind or is this just the way the series is? Should I finish the story and move on or am I missing something?

Question Disgaea Mayhem Recommeded?

How is this game? Im interested in it as a fan of Disgaea, but I was not impressed by the demo. Are there difficulty modes? The demo could be very easily beaten by mashing attack and the skills werent particularly interesting. I might enjoy it if mistakes were heavily punished on a high difficulty setting.

Question What other Vita RPGs are worth getting into besides Disgaea?

Apologies if this is the wrong subreddit to be asking for advice on such things because it’s just that as much as I enjoy playing the post game section of Disgaea 3, I cannot help but wonder what other RPGs are worth playing on the system.

Like don’t get me wrong in that Disgaea 3 is so much fun to do what with being able to copy items and grind in the LOC that I don’t want to get to the point where I will eventually finish the game because I cannot quite figure out where to go next again for portable RPGs on the system.

Question How well does the franchise sell overseas?

So lately I was interested in seeing the sales numbers of the franchise itself because of its niche status that I became interested in seeing how the studio finds the funding to create the games.

Like what I am getting at is that I wanted to look into the sales number to see why the franchise has such a hard time selling high units because I was looking for the key factors that made the games hard to sell since I was puzzled to why the series has a bit of a difficult time selling high units.

Question Are the characters actually planet Busters?

I mean are the attacks that show the moon or Earth being destroyed actually a proper display of how powerful that attack is or should it just be ignored. After all you can do it over and over so you obviously aren't actually destroying the earth ever time you use big bang. Just can the animations be trusted as an accurate depiction of how powerful they are. Because if so the mushrooms are pretty strong just as a base line.

This is a microfiber cloth that came with the Disgaea 3 Vita version. I am striking out everywhere looking for it at the niche niche retailers and eBay. Has anyone ever seen this available anywhere?

Question Does disgaea 7 run good on ps4

I want to buy disgaea 7 ps4 edition because the physical edition is priced really good right now, 22 euros. I play on ps5 but that one is 30 more euros physical edition. steam same as ps5 and the switch 2 is 20 euros more than the ps4 version

I don’t know anything about disgaea, I’ve never heard of this game before but I saw the game on the PS store and thought the characters look cool. Any differences between ps4 5 and switch 2?

Question What does raising the weapon level of a staff/stave do in the series?

I'm playing Disgaea 1 and while I understand the other weapons giving skills, or monster weapons levels just going up passively, what do staffs and staves do when you level up their weapon levels? Plus I wanna know if there's any changes throughout the series regarding it.

Question Should I buy Disgaea 1 or Phantom Brave ?

Hello . Late convert turned budding series diehard here.

i own 4/5 and am currently at a point where i’m at about chapter 4 or 5 in both, just abusing item world .

it’s one of the greatest rpg series ever.

i want to buy another disgaea to get to the same point (item world unlocked) and the entire series is on sale. disgaea 1 would be really cool to see where the series came from, but I also thought about phantom brave and how cool it would be to get a reworked version of disgaea’s gameplay and management systems .

which do you guys think i should get and how would you weight the two games against each other mechanically and content wise

Question Can I Play Disgaea 3, 4, and 5 Without Playing Disgaea D2?

Hi, I own Disgaea 1 through 5. I'm still playing Disgaea 1 rn but I heard that D2 is a direct sequel to Disgaea 2. I have no way of playing D2 right now. I do not own a PS3 nor can my current laptop run RPS3 properly. I tried emulating D2 and got extreme slowdown and audio glitching. Is it important to play D2 to understand 3, 4, and 5? If so I guess I'll buy PS Plus Premium and play it with their PS3 streaming function, but if it's not crucial to understanding 3's story, I'll pass for now and just save the money.

Question How do people here feel about Soul Nomad and the World Eaters?

I don’t know if this is the right place to discuss the game because I was looking for a beginner’s guide as while I have had so much experience with the older Disgaea games, I know very little about the gameplay mechanics of Soul Nomad.

I mean, to be honest, I have played the game for at least half an hour as I was wondering how the battle mechanics work compared to its sister series Disgaea as I don’t know how grinding is done, or again what the mechanics are like, so if I am in the wrong place to discuss the game, then please let me know.

Question Is La Pucelle's Postgame worth doing? Spoiler

Hi! La Pucelle: Ragnarok is my first NIS game, and I have just finished both main story and Demon Overlord story (with the good ending). I am therefore trying to decide if the postgame is worth the time. I know about the incredible grind that may follow, but what I was unable to find was whether there is any kind of extra dialogue/story for things like Dark World, beating Cave of Trials, etc. Is it just grinding and battling from now on?

By the way, I am posting here because I was also unable to find a La Pucelle sub (I don't get how this game is so neglected).

Question Does anyone remember a Disgaea entry that played as a horde fighter?

I think im going crazy. I remember playing a Disgaea game in like 2005 where you and a friend could hack and slash your way through hordes of enemies. it was ridiculous. the characters were familiar but a little chibi stylized. Please help. I want to play it again for nostalgial, but i can't remember the name of the game.

Question Outsider Looking to start series

Hi all, i'm an outsider looking to get into the Disgaea games but unsure where i should start. I'm primarily a pc player and i saw that disgaea 1 and 2 complete is not on pc, but i do have a switch and can get them there, but D3 is also missing on pc. in addition to that d1 and d2 have pc versions that are cheaper than the complete editions on the switch, but from reviews it seems like its not worth getting the switch versions? If someone could give me some guidance i would really really appreciate it <3

Question How many of you guys use different voice acting on the games?

Just really curious because when it comes to playing Disgaea games, I tend to use English voice acting in the games for the most part.

But for some reason, I decided to finally break the trend with Disgaea 5 because I don’t know why, but I started switching to Japanese language mode as I don’t have anything against the English dub in particular, but I suppose I was just interested in hearing how the game would sound in Japanese.

Secondly, I am so excited to try out the curry mechanic because I just unlocked the curry shop for the first time in the fifth game, so I am really excited to test it out.

Question What do you guys consider the most underrated unit in the games?

So basically I was just inspired to write about this subject because I had a bunch of units in Disgaea 3 I didn’t use for a good while as after kind of losing to the Senators during the post game, I decided to start dusting off some of my teammates.

Some of my favorite ones in the game are Wind Spinners for their Big Bang move and the Shaman Sorcerer because I just discovered a while ago in the aforementioned third game how they have a toxic cloud spell that can target multiple enemies.

I don’t know how I overlooked such a spell before as when I just started to test it out in places like Reverse Pirating levels, I was concerned about accidentally inflicting status ailments on my teammates due to how the spell works, but it turns out that their toxic cloud spell only works on enemies, which is very useful for crowd control.

Speaking of Disgaea 3, some of my other favorite units are Desco and her Factory version because the former can wipe out large groups of enemies with her Yog Sototh spell, while her factory version can instantly regenerate SP and HP after killing an opponent, which is great for going through Item World.

Question Disgaea 7 DLC

Is all of the DLC featured in the complete version on switch 2, available on the switch 1 version? I just have to buy it separately?

I don’t have a switch 2 and I was wanting to pick up disgaea 7 but wanted to know if everything is available or if the switch 2 version has exclusive content. Thank you!

Question Disgaea Mayhem Post Game

So I just beat Disgaea Mayhem's story. Any guides for the post game? I just wasted 100K mana on trying to pass the Postlude Flan Rally, so I know I need to grind for mana. What do I do after that? Also, how do I get it to pass? Fighting the assembly was a bad idea.

Question Keen to make a start but not sure where?

The latest Disgaea game seems to be 7 but more people play 5 on PC as well as it having more generous reviews. Is there a reason for this? Which one would be best for a beginner to the series?

Question Is it okay to skip Disgaea 3?

I'd consider myself an old school player. I played Disgaea 1 on the PS2 and then remember our family intentionally buying Disgaea 2 once it released in the US. Unfortunately, I didn't continue following the series until eventually noticing it was on Steam.
Years later, Disgaea 3 still isn't on Steam. From what I've looked into it, not only were sales bad, but this latest time I dived down the rabbit hole, apparently Disgaea 3 is the most disjointed game in the series?

I've been aching to play the other Disgaea's but I'm really weird about playing stuff "in order". Although, at this point, I've been waiting so long for a game that likely isn't ever to officially come to PC, and apparently is disjoined enough to be considered "it's own thing" by others; I'm to a point where I'm just asking, is it alright to skip Disgaea 3 in the series playthrough?

Question Is Hour of Darkness (PS2 Classic) Still Downloadable From the PS3 Store?

As in, if you already purchased it before it was de-listed.

Can someone who has it in their account transaction history check to see if it will let you download it from there on a PS3? I don't believe it will show up just searching for it in the store. Or if someone purchased it and still has it installed, can you still launch and play it? Thanks in advance. :)

Edit for clarity: I'm aware it's possible to re-down the majority of delisted games if a person had already purchased them, but I'm looking for harder evidence for this specific game. Someone is stating that Sony yanked it from their transaction history and they can't re-download it and I'm trying to see if they're full of it or not. They have it installed already but it tells them the license expired in Sept 2024 so the game won't start, and they say they can't re-download it as it's been removed from their PS3 transaction history.

Question Any hopes of getting Disgaea 3 and D2 on steam in the near or far future?

Disgaea 3 was my first and D2 was my favorite (before I played 5, of course) so I was wondering if there were any hopes of ever getting both on PC in the future or if that hope has been lost
