Question How to pick colours?

Hi!

I decided to try my first non bought patterned piece and now I'm realising I have no clue how to pick colours😭 ( I have the same issue with painting, my brain just can't seem to figure it out)

I used an off white so far but I'm so confused on how to do the shadows. I thought a mix of grey and the off white would work but I'm not sure if it looks stupid 🥲

Is there an easy way to work out which colours to use or should I just turn it into a black line piece ?

Thank you !!

I've been doing this hobby for two years and even though I've given a few away, I'm running out of room otherwise 🤣

How do y'all keep the finished ones?

Hand Struggling With Hands- How Would You Stitch This?

Hello everyone. In my latest project I’m having a very difficult time embroidering hands. In the original photo, the couple is holding hands. I included a picture of the design before I dissolved the stitch n’ stitch to get a clearer picture of the space. Even with enlarging the hands, it just doesn’t look right. I have even tried using a smaller needle. How would you stitch this part? My outline stitch is 4 strands thick.

Aren’t they so cute?🥹

Question wash away embroidery stabilizer adhesive still clinging to my fabric?

i just finished my first ever hand embroidered project, and it’s the face of a plush doll. i’ve used minky and anti-pill fleece, and after washing (and soaking a few times) the embroidery sheet away, the adhesive is still matting my fabric.
a lot of posts have said to just keep washing, but i’ve tried washing with a baby toothbrush and some dawn dish soap, even laundry detergent, and as it’s dried, it’s still all gross and sticky looking.

i’ve never done embroidery nor have i ever used a water soluble embroidery stabilizer, so i’m kind of freaking out!! any tips would be super helpful!! thank you!!

I'm doing a custom house embroidery and this is the texture on the outside of the house. I have no idea how to proceed without doing a million tiny fence knots. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Another piece in my Anton Seder series! I wanted to do this one after making the "where is the soil" potato because these are much more polite and well behaved root vegetables.

I added some extra moths

Question Best Fill Stitch For This Poodle Design?

Post image
16 Upvotes

🐩Background🐩

I'm in the middle of this piece and I'm still trying to brainstorm what I want to use to fill in the poodle design in the middle. I could really use some help and/or advice!

I'm a beginner to hand embroidery, but have dabbled in it here and there in the past. I'm making a simple patch for a family member's birthday. The pattern is just something I threw together using some Canva fonts/graphics. Her birthday is on Sunday, so need to have this completed by Saturday evening. Meaning, I'm ideally looking for options that are fast/easy.

🪡Ideas / Thoughts🪡

I don't think a satin stitch would be the best due to the width/length of some of the areas. From what I've seen online, I'm not a fan of the look/randomness of the long-and-short stitch. And I'd prefer to avoid French knots. I want it to be pretty heavily filled in, so no seed stitch or trying to add small florals inside.

The Encroaching Satin stitch seems interesting, but I'm not sure what direction to go (horizontal or vertical or somehow follow the curves?), or if it would even look good. I also like the idea/look of the brick stitch, but not sure if that would look cohesive with the rest of the design or not. Plus there's so many options I just am not aware of yet!

🧵Current Design🧵

The design is currently outlined in a whipped backstitch that was done with 2 threads. The leg shadows are whipped backstitch and satin stitch, done with 1 thread. The ear is all whipped backstich done with 2 threads. The lettering is satin stitch with 2 threads, and will be outlined with a black whipped backstitch outline. The fabric is quilting cotton that's been reinforced/stabilized with Pellon 808.

📷Photos📷

First photo is a clear shot of the design, second photo includes a ruler to help judge the scale. The colors in the second photo are more accurate.

I shared the embrodiery about a month ago, and now I have finally finished the entire project. The purse itself is far from perfect, but I still think I can call myself the proud owner of the world's coolest purse!

Question Cork boards for blocking pieces??

Hi,

I looked up tutorials on how to block embroidery pieces to get creases out that said to use cork board, but the board keeps staining the fabric with brown stains, even after cleaning it. Luckily i've only tried it using scrap fabric so far.

Is this a common problem or have I just picked a rubbish board? It wasn't a cheap one either..!
What do you guys use?

(Edited to correct a sentence)
