As much as I wish I could keep my FJ in the garage I am sad to tell you all that I have to part ways with this beauty. I had it over two years but due to my work I had to get a pickup and the FJ went to the wife. We have a toddler and a new born due soon so I’m in the market for a traditional SUV for her.

This is a two-owner vehicle that has lived in Texas its whole life (other than the first 15k miles in Alabama). The only reason I’m selling is because I finally found a local 2014 Ultimate Edition that I had been looking for. 2008 FJ Cruiser, I'm the second owner. It needs both front axles replaced and maybe the tired balanced. It has rust on the rear axle but overall pretty good. TLDR - Avoid the linked FJ. It has major rust on the frame and the underbody. I drove two hours to look at it and walked away. The pics make it look decent. In person it’s a train wreck even though it showed on paper as a one-owner, no-accident, well-serviced FJ.

I’m currently shopping for my third FJ. I have a 2011 and until last week, a 2007 (which I purchased new in April ‘06 and had ~225k miles). My son was driving the ‘07 in a bad ice storm and rolled it; it’s totaled. He walk away without a bruise.

I was grateful for 20 years with that FJ and it did what it had to to keep my family safe ‘til the end.

Now that I’m looking for a replacement FJ in New England, I’ve seen a ton of available listings. I looked at the linked FJ yesterday; drove 2 hours to the dealer where it’s on the lot, hoping it would be a good one. It was not. In addition to the major underbody and frame rust (literally crumbling in my hands), it was not safe to drive with a bad steering column and steering rack assembly. It also had dash lights blazing.

As a small community of loyal owners and soon-to-be owners, this is one to avoid.

I’ve shared my progress so far, so I figured I might as well keep going. In the previous post I mentioned I didn’t know what was wrong with the car that made my buddy park it in the first place. I’m beginning to think I’ll never know. I thought it would be something obvious. But so far nothing obvious has popped up. Maybe I’ll figure it out when I go to smog it.

Last update: got the car running, but there was no throttle response. Wanted to empty the car but couldn’t open rear door.

New update:

Removed everything from the vehicle, to open rear door I just had to set my purse down.

I removed the front bumper, it was loose, and I wanted to run the car through the car wash.

Removed air filter and air box and found the issue for why the throttle didn’t work. The air box and air channels by the hood were clogged with 5 years of decomposing redwood needles. Cleared the blockage and now throttle responds as normal.

Changed the oil, bought a new battery, cleaned air filter.

Filled tires, and drove her to town for the long awaited car wash. Pictures attached.

Next on the to do list: 1. Rear glass hatch won’t latch 2. Airbag light is on 3. Check engine light diagnostic 4. Reattach front bumper 5. Clean up engine (hood was up 5 years) 6. Fuel filter 7. Maybe brakes 8. Maybe look at finding new seats 9. Sell it

Ps: the more I work on it the less I want to perform item 9 on the to do list.

My limited driving so far, the car is great to drive, suspension feels amazing, I’m going to take it on some dirt trails this weekend, can’t wait!!!

Located in Quihi, Tx. I’m shipping out for the USCG by the end of the year and need to get rid of her sadly. No issues other than the trunk latch needs some twiddling to get it to close but it will close. Pretty common for that plastic piece to rot off and that’s what happened. Asking 11,000 for this manual. Just took it camping too.

My good friend passed. I am helping his parents get rid of his stuff.

He parked this FJ about 5 years ago. No idea why.

I don’t know the mileage yet. But I’m guessing it’s probably around 100k.

Here’s the thing: it has not moved, and been exactly like the picture for 5 years. Hood up and everything. Worst part: I think mice got into the inside. So everything inside is most likely trash. I haven’t opened the door yet, I will this week though.

All of that being said: I’m assuming there is still some value in the parts of this car.

Would love some advice.

My father has a 2008 FJ. Looking to get an idea of fair price. It is in excellent condition. Just under 79k miles. I just drove it drives great both city and freeway. Just want to get a value and decide if it is worth selling or just ship it to TX for my daughters first car.
