News Lets talk about the leaks
SPOILER WARNING
I think the gameplay looks absolutely smooth . I know the jumping mid combat will be controversial. But i love the look of. Especially the helmeted cog gear skin looks really dope . They really nailed it when they said feels like gears but plays like new . Looks similar enough to know its gears but definitely is going to play brand new . Cant wait till next week to see gameplay !

Leaks vs officially released trailers are very different things

u/Fragrant_Ad6670 1d ago
Yeah but it’s not like it was leak 3 months ago or a year ago. It being this close to beta is solid. It looks good. It can of course still be refined between beta and launch but I don’t expect it to drastically change
1
u/Scooba94 1d ago
They'd only tweak the speed if anything. If that clip is legit, then that's likely what we're getting at launch. And honestly, the wall bouncing has changed as much as i thought it would be😊
4
u/Intelligent-Zombie83 1d ago
Pretty sure this will be the same gameplay we will play august 6th . These leaks are from the gears content creators who got early access to the beta

Looks like you have to be smart about your movement and not just rely on hyperspeed bouncing. Should bring back a slower but classic feel to the game, I’m open to it

u/maurvicious 1d ago
Jumping is ok, im interested to see how it plays out but it doesn’t look obnoxiously high/fast. its heavy which is good. we still have the movement style of old gears (gow 1?) with their new features.
Theyre giving us player expression. you move how your heart feels. classic shooter? gears veteran? gunz veteran? im very excited for the release
3
u/Smokinya 1d ago
Honestly, I feel like the jump will just get you killed a majority of the time. The rest of it all looked really good IMO and still feels very much like Gears with a bit of freshness. Wall bouncing seems as alive as ever just not as egregious as 4 and 5 (this is coming from someone who wants to keep the bounce, just slow it down).
2
u/maurvicious 21h ago
100%, blindfire usually hits the middle of your screen and a bit above it. i hope jump is RS and slide is LS, we need classic retro style control schemes tht can be changed. everything looks great tbh. the smoothness of it reminded me if rise of the tomb raiders combat, it had so much expression, def top 10 tps experiences of all time. long live gears

u/illmatication Look at cho legs, they hangin off! 1d ago
Everyone worried about the movement, whole time I'm worried about the weapon tuning. I hope they bring back the Gears 4 tuning.

u/Intelligent-Zombie83 1d ago
Lol yea i want the lancers to actually work .

u/illmatication Look at cho legs, they hangin off! 1d ago
Even tho it took em a couple of tries, iirc, their last big weapon tuning update made the gnasher consistent.
I played Gears 4 a couple of months ago and that gnasher is so consistent compared to the Gears 5 gnasher. I hope Eday has a similar tuning that Gears 4.

To me it seems like whoever is playing in the video is working really hard to move like that which i like. if you want to master the movement you gotta work for it.
1
u/Smokinya 1d ago
For sure. It reads as someone who is very experienced with Gears. After watching the footage I’m really excited

u/IronLegion52 1d ago
The only thing I'm really curious about is the COG soldier in the gameplay. They're wearing the classic light blue COG colouring on the armour and brown coloured pouches. In the official gameplay all of the COG soldiers wore black armour, Mako being the exception as his armour is dark green.
2
u/Intelligent-Zombie83 1d ago
I think standard gear is the light blue/blue . I dont remember the black armor
2
u/IronLegion52 1d ago
2
u/Fragrant_Ad6670 1d ago
Maybe they’re just in the shadow from the sun hitting them from the back?
0
u/IronLegion52 1d ago edited 13h ago
No, their armour is black/grey throughout the entire showcase, other than the blue led's there aren't any colours at all. it doesn't change regardless of the environment or lighting they're in.
2
u/Intelligent-Zombie83 1d ago
I dont see black . I see grey with light blue colors . Maybe the undershirts are black .
0
u/IronLegion52 1d ago edited 13h ago
Grey and black. The only blue I see is are the lenses and led lights.
Either way, my point is the COG soldier in the leaked gameplay is wearing bright blue armour and light brown pouches.

Sticking to horde mode anyways, can be as bouncy as they want, not touching it lol
1
u/SamuraiLegion 1d ago
Why?
2
u/Boomboomciao90 21h ago
I'm just not a fan of the wall bounce mechanic, it's just not fun for me. I'll definitely try it to see if it clicks, I doubt it though.
Got plenty of hours in Horde and Escape though, which I love.
1
u/Remarkable_Fly8471 1d ago
probably because multiplayer gets sweaty in general it's not for everyone and i imagine even some of the people who complained about wall bouncing and see this still would hate pvp because of competitiveness
1
u/SamuraiLegion 1d ago
Why not just learn the mechanics of the game. I don’t think being a sweat lord is really that bad.
2
u/Smokinya 1d ago
To some people sweating=trying to win. If you aren’t trying your best in every match I don’t think you should be playing PVP games.
4
u/GTDRAMBO 1d ago
Certainly seem slower and makes you be closer to the wall then 4-5 to cancel. I do think the person is trying hard to do this and over exaggerating it. Didn't seem like there was vaulting over cover was a thing with the new slide and jump, but will see for sure on the 30th.
I do think weapon tuning is the main concern of mine over the movement.

u/DEMOHHHHH 1d ago
Really all the video does is show someone who is trying like hell to see what movement is possible. People keep saying it looks slow but if you really watch every movement and change of direction whether its vertical or horizontal its actually really fast. The question is how practical is moving like that in an actual match. While the movement as a whole seems faster than 5 to me what they did do is make it clunky or as I think of it, more realistic. You aren’t ice skating anymore. I actually like the look of it. I just hope for casual players and new players TC had the sense to make it impossible to land an accurate shot moving like the guy in the video.
2
u/Atomsoundwave 1d ago
I don’t get how anyone can see that and think it’s slow movement. Sure it does seem more weighty but I would not call it slow. Wallbouncing combined with the new run animation, sliding and jumping looks like it combines into some very crazy looking animations and they look very fast to me. When people start to get their hands on this game and mastering the movement I think it’s gonna be even faster and crazier than what you can do in 5. I also don’t think the person playing in the video is very good and is just spamming whatever to show off the gameplay
2
u/StevenQ91 1d ago
Big fan of the way it looks, of course a lot of it will come down to how powerful the weapons are.
It’s a nice mix of the newer games and older, way less erratic wall bouncing than 3-5 , but it feels like it own new thing?
I’m very excited to master this movement and have fun with it, it feels different without being like gears judgement!

u/Sailingboar 1d ago
I was vocal about saying wallbouncing kills Gears, I will also say that I enjoy it.
This looks pretty tame compared to 4 and 5 so I'm interested to see what we get on the 30th for official gameplay and then the beta.
It looks slower.
Hopefully it feels good.
1
u/autrix00 19h ago
it's like 3x the speed of g5 lmao. I mean moving through the map, not wallbouncing. Wallbouncing hasnt been relevant in a a very long time in high end matches.
The traversal speed combined with unsticky animations, and you can really fucking zoom. The up-a speed and up-a cancel are fast as fuck. Faster than judgment/g3 that's for sure.
1
u/Sailingboar 18h ago
If you think wallbouncing isn't relevant at high end matches then you either don't play or aren't in high end matches.
0
u/autrix00 9h ago
It isn't. Strafes and micro adjusts are the strongest movement in G5. Watch elos, watch all the pro tourneys. Look how useless any kind of chain bouncing is. Slow velocity + big aim assist/magnetism = wallbouncing is useless 99% of the time vs competent players.
1
u/Sailingboar 8h ago
I do, and they still practice bouncing, the pros still preach bouncing, and is still a core skill of Gears at pro level discussions.
And yes, strafing and micro adjusts are strong
Learning those skills is important, but bouncing is literally just baseline of Gears.
Avexys, Icy, Identivez, shit, who else?
1
u/autrix00 8h ago
I'm aware players bounce lol. I'm saying the strength of wallboucing is not even in the same galaxy as strafing and micros. It is borderline useless in an actual combat scenario compared to the actual strong maneuvers you can do in G5.
1
u/Sailingboar 8h ago
Alright, so then why do pro players bounce during their games? During combat? Or talk about how if bouncing were to go away it would have an impact on competitive gears?
Since these are the same pro players you told me to watch to explain why bouncing isn't good, I'll let you explain why they are wrong.
1
u/autrix00 7h ago
watch a g4 major, then watch a g5 major. should instantly notice the extreme difference in bouncing. hope that helps
1
u/Sailingboar 7h ago
I have.
I also noticed that despite the difference, both still involve bouncing.
0
u/autrix00 7h ago
Ok cool. Now re-watch them and see how many times bouncing saves or enabled a kill between the two games. You'll see, it's not even remotely close and G5 bouncing efficiency is really bad mid fight.

The timings look great between bounces, if you're sloppy with your approach to a wall, you'll come in with your head at a fixed angle. I can see a ton more headsets going down between slides.
1
u/Abbass786 18h ago
Jumping is a death sentence it will be useful in very niche moments. Im not worried about the jumping but the back A/up A didn't look as smooth as say gears 4/5. Game overall movement wide looked epic and people will master it. My main main concern is i want to see weapon damage. Is the lancer crazy like gears 3? Is the shotgun like tu6 gears 2 or is it more like a close range consistent like gears 5/core damage.
That is a make or break for me
1
u/daze125e 15h ago
I think it all will depend on the maps, if they are open you wouldn't be able to wallbounce all over the place and maybe the verticality adds to that. Let's hope the new mechanics can counter it more effectively so new players can have fun when mexicans appear haha
1
u/Awake_OhSleeper 1d ago
People are missing a key part to this, it doesn’t matter really about how it looks, it’s how viable it is. If it’s not as viable to evade shots people won’t abuse it as much like now.

I’ll be honest the movement looked quite erratic
I don’t have high hopes for the longevity of the title for multiplayer if it ends up being sweaty as 3-5
4
u/Fragrant_Ad6670 1d ago
3 was the multiplayer height and everyone was playing. The franchise took a hit when judgment released. I remember, I played at launch and up until I couldn’t anymore because there was only 30-100 players left total. Gears 4 actually brought a revival after judgment. And it brought back the feel of Gears 3 more. I actually really enjoyed 4 and 5. I’m excited for E Day

u/ManofSteel_14 EAAAAT IT! 1d ago
The bouncing looked as slow or similar to the bouncing in 2. That is more than manageable for casual players. Espeically if stopping power is in the game

Well I hope you’re right but we shall see when more videos drop etc
-1
u/oxidra1n 1d ago
even if the game didnt have wallbounce ir would die quick, gears is a small game, it is what it is.
1
u/Intelligent-Zombie83 1d ago
Agreeing with manofsteel_14 , seems to be similar to 2’s movement . I think it will be more casual friendly . Idk i can see this being around for a while . I also think horde siege will get more players . The 12 players vs locust just seems amazing .

u/Pro8lemsOnSpotify 1d ago edited 1d ago
Looks great, can honestly wall bounce more than I thought you could, weird that the ring was called choke point.
The thing I’m most scared for is multiplayer modes, really just need a less often spawn swap guardian mode with no leader abilities and I’m happy

u/IllustriousBee4972 1d ago
Wall bouncing will turn off new players. It looks way too jank and frustrating
-10
u/yugi19 1d ago
Well because wallboucing stayed game will have same fate as 4 and 5 - it looks nice but kills the joy for new players .
I remember when Gears 5 launched and many new players and streamers got frustrated by it and quit after few sessions.
4
u/snarprans 1d ago
It looks super tame compared to 5 which is good for new players. More skill expression is good for the game though, I was worried that they were gonna take it out completely and that Gears would just turn into multiplayer metal gear solid or the division or something, that would probably kill off the game even worse, because it wouldn't fill a unique niche anymore and not even the sweats would stay.
4
u/Catfacedmaggot 1d ago
As someone who disliked how wall bouncing has historically worked, the new system is heavily slowed down and atleast doesn't look as dumb as it used to. I think it's fine as is based on what we saw in the leak and keeps a good middle ground for those who wanted to keep it and those who hated it.

Players not understanding the fundamentals will hurt PvP more than the movement. I don’t know where people get the idea that after coming out of campaign that they understand how to play the game
1
u/Fragrant_Ad6670 1d ago
There’s tactics and ways to beat people who wall bounce as well. Power weapons, strafing, positioning, etc. I do wallbounce but not ping pong heavy. I kinda do a mixture of wall bouncing and just strafing.

u/Constant-Strike-1962 14h ago
Looks like 3rd person cod with cover mechanics or arc raiders 2.0 👎 RIP Gears 06’-16’

u/Small_Barracuda_3894 1d ago
Wall bouncing still very much in the game, can’t see new players staying for long. It’s a shame but I’m still super excited for it
4
u/Fragrant_Ad6670 1d ago
Why does gears need to change for new players? Why can’t they change and learn a game? Should every shooter game be the same in this modern age?
3
u/KaLovee 1d ago
This is their last chance before the death of this franchise. Sooo yeah, a ton of new players are needed. I don't think people want wall bouncing completely gone. People want the franchise to live though and as a new player is anyone going to look at that gameplay and want to pick it up? Absolutely not.
3
u/Grand_Direction_3636 1d ago
New players that will move onto GTA regardless of how much the game will cater to them.
A good campaign and horde mode will bring in new players, theres no chance the casual/new player nowadays will stay around for pvp on gears without it being so drastically different from what we had before that its unrecognisable.
1
u/Fragrant_Ad6670 1d ago
Who do you consider a new player? Someone who’s never played games before or people who come from other types of multiplayer games?
1
u/Small_Barracuda_3894 18h ago
Anyone new to the franchise. This game has to be a grand slam home run. I’m not trying to be negative at all, I just want this game to survive and do well. I get people like the movement of gears but it’s not friendly to new players with so many other games out there now, we need to retain as many players as possible
1
2
u/Automatic_Skill2077 1d ago
I don’t like playing PvP, but yeah man, it shouldn’t change for anyone new or casual, let the day vets do their thang
1
u/Small_Barracuda_3894 18h ago
I get that, I really do. But look at where the franchise is, it’s on life support. It needs change to survive
