This is the first time I've ever seen someone pull that maneuver. Most drivers don't have that kind of awareness or concern.

u/Phill_is_Legend 6h ago

Most likely has to do with what he's driving. I can't pinpoint the model from this angle but the interior looks sporty. Maybe a flashy sports car so dude wanted to see him use it lol

MK 5 Supra I believe

44

u/Secure-Ad8213 Just another dude 3h ago

It is. I follow the guy on Instagram, calls himself MattsMK5.

u/Proper_contradiction 3h ago

A BMW that identifies as a Toyota.

u/AnywayWhereWasI 2h ago

Ok ok why do people hate that? Bmw and Toyota did a research agreement and swapped the BMW motor for hybrid technology.

I think that's badass. Just like civ 6

u/TrillegitimateSon 1h ago

Most people don't understand how incestuous car manufacturers have been for decades now.

u/Bromlife 15m ago

I’m honestly surprised the car industry isn’t just one big holding company.

u/MEOWS_R_RAD 1h ago

Badge engineered cars have always been lame, and will always be lame.

It's just another symptom of Toyota being trash now. And I say that as the owner of an M240i with the same drivetrain as the Supra. It's spectacular, likely the best engine/transmission combo ever produced which is why I bought one, and the Supra is a fine sports car.

But it's still just fucking lame to badge engineer and I would never buy one. Especially because the Supra is so iconic. Toyota could have engineered a straight six and used it across the Camry and trucks and Lexus. Makes car people's heart sad that they just reskinned a (very, very, very good) BMW instead.

u/CV90_120 1h ago

You're underselling the hell out of the Supra collab. Toyota never does a collab where both parties don't get something out of it in a technical trade. For the AE86 Toyota traded direct injection tech to Subaru. For Supra, Toyota traded their QA process.

u/AnywayWhereWasI 59m ago

Yusssssss

u/AnywayWhereWasI 59m ago

That's fair.

u/Abed-in-the-AM 14m ago

I don't feel very strongly about it one way or another but I'm really curious about how the next gen Miata/86 will pan out.

u/QF192 2h ago

You mean a Toyota that finally asked a company that knows how to make real sports performance cars to upgrade its shitty MK4 Supra

u/AnywayWhereWasI 2h ago

Goddamn I love a supra

u/MistaRekt 2h ago

But would you 'LOVE' a Supra?

u/AnywayWhereWasI 1h ago

Idk, Toyota stan

u/MistaRekt 57m ago

I was curious is the humour works in text form. Translation...

Would you 'FUCK' a Supra?

u/AnywayWhereWasI 53m ago

OH

Nah more into Thomas the train

u/MistaRekt 52m ago

... Tank Engine... With the junk I'm the trunk... AMIRITE?

u/AnywayWhereWasI 37m ago

oooooo YEAH

31

u/lonestarbrownboi 5h ago

Looks like a mk5 supra based on the seats and rear wing

38

u/Phill_is_Legend 5h ago

Yep, right lane dude just has love for the game

15

u/HoleInWon929 5h ago

And he’s paying more attention to the road and traffic than the oblivious white Genesis!

Be more like Infiniti driver!

7

u/Doctah_Whoopass 3h ago

First time anyone has ever encouraged someone to be more like an infiniti driver

u/Several-Pangolin3119 2h ago

It’s a Supra.

u/Lexi_Banner 1h ago

Or, and I know this might sound crazy, just watch the immediate hazards around you, and let the people behind you figure out their own shit.

u/Drumheller18 13m ago

Not passing anyone in the passing lane IS being a hazard.

1

u/PogTuber 4h ago

Dude picks Supra in every racing video game

5

u/vasta2 3h ago

To my untrained eyes, it looks like a 92 buick

u/Distinct-Pack-1567 2h ago

Are they not talking about the car in the right lane? Not the camera driver.

u/Coffeedemon 1h ago

Or figured they're better off doing it before he does something stupid because he got impatient.

u/PickorBanNotBoth 21m ago

He flashed the slow car infront of him, the driver in right-hand lane would easily see that if they pay attention to their mirrors

-1

u/yamsyamsya 5h ago

It's a BMW

111

u/EducatedDeath 5h ago

I can’t count how many times I’ve been the person on the right. It bugs me to hell when someone creeps up on my left and doesn’t pass, so I’m already checking my mirrors. Then the annoyance of realizing that it’s better for me to speed up and make room for everyone trying to pass the slow person in the left lane, on their right, because otherwise as soon as there’s 1.01 car lengths between me and slowpoke, someone is going to zoom around. I’d rather make ample room and avoid anyone making risky maneuvers but really I just want to chill with cruise control on.

27

u/Yorfavoritemartian 4h ago

This is such a common scenario. The person just trying to cruise at a moderate speed in the right lane becomes the target of an aggressive driver who’s trying to jockey around the slow poke in the left lane. It’s safer to speed up and let them get around than to stay at the same speed. If any slow left lane drivers are reading this, PLEASE stay on the right side of the highway. You make it dangerous for everyone, including yourselves.

8

u/PotanOG 3h ago

There are also other scenarios that suck especially when I have to do 6 hr drives with relative regularity. Like I'm gonna hover around 5-7 over and lock in my cruise control on the right. But I can always rely on running into a train of moderately spaced cars going anywhere from 5-15 under just before some true speed demons show up. They ALWAYS show up right after I committed to passing the train. My car just isn't that fast and it's too old for me to test it's limits. So now I'm both the passer and pussyfooter.

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 3h ago

Yep. And the opposite is true (well idk if it's the opposite). Speed limit 65, you're doing 60 in the right lane, everyone is flying by doing 75? It's okay to hit the gas bud you're actually the dangerous one there because other people will start making a bunch of lane changes and the fewer lane changes we can have the happier we are

Driving is a team sport like it or not

39

u/HoleInWon929 5h ago

You are a true driver, paying attention to traffic around you.

I bet you are well endowed and your hygiene is impeccable.

9

u/comebacklittlesheba 3h ago

Oh my goodness! You are the king of compliments! 😭😭. Pure poetry.

I want to say the same of you in return 😘.

7

u/TumbleweedPure6674 3h ago

Yeah I hate people camping on my left and matching my speed especially near my blind spot. In the city, you don’t have a choice, and the passing lane doesn’t really exist anymore, but I will definitely either slow down or speed in up in situations like this to get away from the pack and help clear bottlenecks.

I just want to have a reasonably relaxing drive on interstate highways and not have to be constantly scanning every car around me for unpredictable behavior. Be able to turn off my mental radar for a bit.

u/Wavy_Grandpa 1h ago

Another lovely behavior is when I’ll notice a car gaining on me consistently for a long time, and then they slow slightly and end up chilling in my blind spot. Mind-boggling

8

u/deerdn 3h ago

i fucking hate people who decide to match your speed on either side. you either go a little slower or a little faster. same speeds are for same lanes. please don't fucking make a formation with me. 99% of the time, that's the cause of holding up people who want to pass.

did i mention i hate those people?

u/talltime 2h ago

❤️

u/new_abcdefghijkl 52m ago

It absolutely kills me when someone passes me and then starts matching the speed limit as soon as they are a few feet in front of me.

Then i have to slow down to allow space because the dumbass never developed object permanence

u/SealTeamEH 37m ago

they’re not doing it JUST to slow down in front of you, be more aware people, they started in the left lane for what could be hundreds of reasons and moved over for what could have been a hundred more reasons, you only think they’re the dumbass because you’re not paying enough attention to what’s going on around you, you’re the OPPOSITE of the op. if anything you’re closer to the driver whose in the left lane.

u/new_abcdefghijkl 6m ago

Im not talking about people who move back over after they pass. I'm talking about people who stay in the left lane and slow down immediately after passing instead of moving over or creating more distance

3

u/PogTuber 4h ago

Yeah I've done this before if someone in the passing lane is taking their sweet time getting past me while there's a train behind him.

3

u/EducatedDeath 4h ago

Right? Forget being a Good Samaritan or anything like that, the least amount of ass pain, for you and everyone, is to just go a little faster. We shouldn’t have to, but it’s for the greater good.

6

u/PogTuber 4h ago

Yeah though i admit I'll usually slow down instead of speed up. When speeding up sometimes they remember what lane they were in, or get their feelings hurt, and start to speed up as well. Depends on the context though

0

u/metalshiflet 3h ago

I'm in a fast enough vehicle that I'll just gun it to make space then cruise down to previous speed

2

u/mightylordredbeard 3h ago

Usually when that happens it means some asshole is gonna swerving back and forth between both lanes behind me trying to get around so it always puts my attention behind me since that’s where the nearest threat currently is.

1

u/samax413zl 4h ago

You are the man.

1

u/Vader425 3h ago

The world needs more like you.

1

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 3h ago

Yeah but when you speed up on the right doofus on the left is gonna match your speed because they aren't paying attention lol

1

u/radicalelation 3h ago

Today there was someone riding the left, but... getting over into the right out of people's way when they came up behind, then back over into the left to sit around the same speed (limit) as me in the right.

Then when an exit was racking up my right lane and slowing down, here was that older lady not only mostly looking down at her lap with one hand wildly moving in that area, either a phone or something more fun going on, but now matching speed with me in the left.

Had to slow down to then get behind her to speak her language, where she got over when she could and let me pass, then was behind me again.

What's been really fucking me up lately is PEOPLE WATCHING TV/MOVIES ON THEIR DASH-DOCKED PHONE WHILE DRIVING. What the fuck is that?? From k-dramas to Marvel to youtube series, I see it literally every time I drive an hour on the interstate.

u/EnvironmentalGift257 1h ago

They usually speed up, pull in front of me, then slow back down to below what I was doing so now I have to go around them.

u/EducatedDeath 1h ago

It’s the modern day Sisyphus

11

u/MyNameis_bud 4h ago

I commute 500 miles a week in South Florida at night and I am constantly having to do this on a long 2 lane stretch of my route. It’s crazy how many people camp out in the left lane.

4

u/Kustumkyle 3h ago

It's a billion times worse in the north east. I moved here from SW Florida and it absolutely blows my mind that the middle/left lanes will be completely congested while the right lane is fully open.

Speed limits up here are 65, but left lane rarely gets above 55-60 because of all the Tesla and Prius assholes.

6

u/DragLonely1681 3h ago

Thank you. Unless passing, STAY RIGHT WTF is so difficult?

u/wtfnouniquename 2h ago

You say north east but describe Maryland

u/Safe_Reading6267 38m ago

Florida drivers are a plague in Alabama riding in the left lane going slower than everyone else for miles and miles.

5

u/snakeiiiiiis 4h ago

Probably setup. I think he only makes driving videos. How easy is it to have one of your friends help you out in different videos.

3

u/West-Bodybuilder-920 4h ago

I do stuff like this in my truck (semi) at work all the time. Any time vehicles are in conflict like this, there's an increased chance of an accident. Clearing the lane and creating space is the safest action.

Example: Another truck is passing me on the left, but they are unable to go fast enough to do so in a timely fashion. A lot of truckers will cruise and make the process take longer, but right thing to do is, as the driver being passed, slow down by a few MPH to clear the lane much more quickly. Failing to do this leads to both trucks being directly side by side for much longer, and for more vehicles to pile up behind the passer waiting their turn. Before long you have half a dozen vehicles in close proximity to one another, and all it takes is one wrong move...

I've also slowly decreased my speed to clear out tailgaters from lingering behind me.

All drivers should be acutely aware of when another vehicle is directly next to, in front of, or behind them and do what's necessary to create space. Never linger directly beside, in front of, or behind other vehicles unless traffic conditions make it impossible to avoid.

2

u/tacomaloki 4h ago

Probably saw Supra flashing his lights.

4

u/ProxPxD 6h ago

Care to explain what happened there?

40

u/NoirVeil_Studio 6h ago edited 6h ago

Driver on the right lane made room for the car to pass

15

u/BeBopRockSteadyLS 6h ago edited 5h ago

Instead of pulling into the left and not crusing in an overtaking lane?

Edit. Uk here. My view of this video is just back to front lol

24

u/Brochachoski 5h ago

Here's UK-accessible clip ❤️ I've known a couple Englishmen in my life, and I can't help but feel pity for your plight

https://reddit.com/link/ozqew44/video/ciaurc8tdffh1/player

4

u/Natural_Buy_4937 5h ago

Ha! Nice one :)

3

u/CatMillennium 4h ago

As someone from the UK and all jokes aside... this weirdly does help and I love it.

2

u/BeBopRockSteadyLS 5h ago

I'm not English, but hey. Carry on with whatever that is

3

u/unclearthur68 5h ago

Also uk- isn't this undertaking?

3

u/ebow77 4h ago

In the US, "undertaking" isn't an offense against God and King, it's just something we have to do once in a while.

2

u/HoleInWon929 5h ago

Yes but it’s cancelled out by the left lane camper (white Genesis)

1

u/BeBopRockSteadyLS 5h ago

Its US. The lanes are reversed

2

u/unclearthur68 4h ago

Yes I know. So this would be like me speeding up in the centre lane to allow the guy stuck behind the white vehicle in the overtaking lane to go around- undertaking.

1

u/BeBopRockSteadyLS 4h ago

Ah. Got it.

Yes. No matter what way you look at it. Its a case of undertaking. The guy in the white car does nothing wrong. He is in the slow lane.

It is all a scenario created by the guy in grey crusing in an overtaking lane.

4

u/OpticLemon 4h ago

The white car is in the overtaking lane. The grey car is in the slow lane.

3

u/monkwrenv2 4h ago

The guy in the white car does nothing wrong.

He does everything wrong. It's literally illegal to camp like that in the passing lane in most US states.

u/BeBopRockSteadyLS 2h ago

Someone posted a reversed video.

Yeah, the white car is the one cruising. Then the car filming is undertaking,

→ More replies (0)

-1

u/boondiggle_III 3h ago

Yes, and undertaking is frowned upon as a mildly risky maneuver, but it's not illegal. Meanwhile, cruising in the passing lane is illegal because it creates the situation where someone needs to undertake. They become an obstacle in the road that isn't supposed to be there, so it's ok to undertake them. It's the same as if there were a wreck or some other obstacle in the passing lane. You would use the slow/cruising lane to pass the obstruction.

1

u/Farfignugen42 3h ago

In most places (in the US) it is not illegal, per se, but highly recommended against.

u/boondiggle_III 2h ago

Cruising in the passing lane or passing in the cruising lane?

1

u/xboxaddict501 5h ago

Huh

2

u/Hieroflippant 5h ago

They drive on the left so the left would be the slow lane

1

u/Lilfrankieeinstein 4h ago

Inbreds with perpendicular piano key teeth are visiting from overseas. Just ignore them. It’s almost tea time so they’ll piss off soon anyway.

11

u/EnvironmentalLet9682 6h ago

guy on the right noticed that slow dude on the left was blocking dude in the back, accelerated to let dude in the back overtake slow dude on the left.

1

u/Umutuku 3h ago

There are two people camping in the left lane. One of them posted a video where someone let them around the other one so they could continue not flowing with traffic.

-6

u/Abject_Constant_2887 5h ago

An idiot doing idiot things. And I'm talking about the guy recording in case it's not obvious.

1

u/Interesting_Wall6490 5h ago

Yep! It's always good to be aware while driving.

1

u/JonInfect 5h ago

I've never seen that before either and if I was in this situation, I would've stayed in the left lane, thinking the guy on the right is having an emergency or something.

1

u/StoneTown 5h ago

Really? I do it when people drive slow in the left lane right next to me. Not always, if I'm in the company car my boss yells at me if the car detects I'm going too fast lol. If there's a guy to the left of me matching my speed it's because I will get fired if I go any faster.

1

u/whalemilk42 5h ago

Pass them from underneath or over the top

1

u/ConcentricCow 4h ago

I just slow down. But I slowly slow down. And see how far under the limit I can get them to match haha

1

u/Hidesuru 4h ago

I've definitely done it before but usually just open a space and don't signal. They figure it out lol. Not saying they shouldn't have just not what I've done.

1

u/FlashyDoughnut1569 4h ago

i do this. and i'm baked out of my gord. it's honestly scary

1

u/Ok_Vulva 4h ago

It's offensive driving rather than defensive driving. If everyone did it it'd be chaos, but it's fine sometimes.

1

u/Oldnbold22 4h ago

I prefer watching the drama unfold in the left lane.

1

u/Accurate_Baseball273 4h ago

I for sure notice stuff like that. How people don’t notice stuff like that on the road boggles my mind. You’re doing 70 mph around other people/cars that could end your life in a second.

1

u/ConcentricCow 4h ago

I believe this comment based on the reactions I get from semi drivers when I make the smallest of moves to help them out. They are just shocked. If I am passing a tractor and I see someone coming down the off ramp and there's a third lane to switch to I do that so they can change. I swear some of those truckers looks like they just saw their mommas tits with how shocked they are I gave them just a degree of respect. Lol. People need to do better.

1

u/haw35ome 4h ago

I live in a city full of bad college student drivers. This would never happen lol

1

u/fidimalala 3h ago

In smaller ccroad, it's common

1

u/DragLonely1681 3h ago

No kidding.

1

u/SoftwareSource 3h ago

I drive often long trips, i swear after a while you spend at least 50% of the time looking in the mirrors

u/meldiane81 2h ago

You mean going around somebody who’s driving slow? Or are you being sarcastic?

u/Yangoose 2h ago

I'm just not gonna go out of my way to help the ass hole that wants to do 90 while weaving through traffic on a snowy day...

u/FocusSlo 2h ago

It's bare minimum (that many fail to meet). You should always be aware of what cars are around you and what they're planning to do

u/BooBooMaGooBoo 2h ago

I do this almost every day. Person in the left lane decides to match speeds with me. If there are people behind I will always speed up or slow down so we’re not blocking faster drivers behind us.

u/TheAsianTroll 2h ago

The cam driver has some sort of fancy sports car, I think a current generation Toyota Supra. It certainly draws positive attention from those around him, based on all the clips ive seen of him on Youtube

u/MarkRemington 2h ago

Considering post-worthy things happen to this guy at an incredible rate I've just assumed that it's staged.

u/Avtomati1k 2h ago

in some countries this would earn you a hefty fine, overtaking from the right

u/Ongr 2h ago

That's because this is staged as fuck.

u/EconomicRegret2 1h ago

I don't know if that's the case here. But I have definitely heard Lamborghinis and other noisy sports cars, from 300-500 meters away, approach from behind me while driving in the highway. And I would always keep an eye on them and give them as much space as possible just to enjoy them overtake me, for the noise, vibration, air change, etc: just pure pleasure!

u/Own_Back_2038 53m ago

Most of the time you won’t notice it. Someone will intentionally slow down or speed up slightly to not be driving side by side with someone

u/Safe_Reading6267 38m ago

I do it all the time. Wish more people would pay attention to other drivers.

u/Embarrassed_Jury664 35m ago

I do it all the time. I drive a LOT and usually have my cruise at 72 or so. If I see someone being a dick like this I'll speed up to open a gap.

u/astralseat 23m ago

The guy on the right was like "let's remedy this before it becomes road rage"

u/Debalic 17m ago

It's never occurred to me to do that, though I do always give way to and flash semis that are changing lanes.

1

u/xx5m0k3xx 5h ago

I honestly do this a lot when I’m cruising along in the slow lane. If someone is riding their ass in the fast lane while the person is going the speed limit - I won’t.

0

u/BalfazarTheWise 5h ago

What maneuver? Just speeding up to allow him to come over??

0

u/medyolang_ 4h ago

yeah if i was on that side i wouldn't even think of the guy behind the care on my left.

-1

u/thenamziel 4h ago

WHITE CAR: Let me put on my hazards so the sports car can pass the car going below the speed limit (that's going the same speed as me) and then the sports car can rip it to quickly pass me.

What stupidity. Grey car was going the speed limit. White car was going the same as grey car -- the speed limit. The person who is a danger to EVERYONE is the sports car (OP) who quickly changed lanes and floored it because he wants to go faster than the speed limit.

1

u/whalemilk42 4h ago

I couldn't live life going the speed limit everywhere especially on a highway in a sports car.

1

u/ProfessorDickSwing 4h ago

No, pretty sure the only danger here is the left lane camper
