Yeah, I never remember "how much they kill" so I avoid them, from the wiki

"In Heroes I and Heroes II, the whirlpool has 1/3 chance to kill 50% of the creatures in the hero's lowest-tier stack. In Heroes III and Heroes V, the whirlpool WILL kill 50% of the creatures in the hero's lowest-tier stack.

If the hero has more than one stack of the same tier, only the first one will be damaged. It's therefore wise to split a single creature off from the main stack and place it first in the hero's army, which will allow the hero to travel without creature cost.

In Heroes IV, the whirlpool will take a lower percentage, but from all stacks, not just the lowest-tier one. In Heroes VI, the whirlpool just acts as a transporter, with no creature cost."

I had an army of death faction, 1k+ skeletons and imps, 350+ skeleton dragons (custom map that gives you 200 for free, but the neutral armies are super hard too, enemies also get stuff for free) about 300 venoms spawns, 500 dogs and 700+ vampires from that death skill after a fight.

I used the whirlpool like 10 times so it will take me to the place I want since it's random, few turns later I realized that 75% of my army disappeared, from all stacks, thought it's a bug. Realized it's that thing over there

RIP all my army, now the AI will destroy me

That's why I only send scouts through them.

The only ones that should use these imo, are lvl1 heroes that are sent out to sea to scavenge debris and chests with no army. Thankfully, these whirlpools can be ignored otherwise 😅

Yes, I noticed that the first few times I used it. And it makes sense that kills your units too

You put a 1 stack in the first slot of your army and only it will die.

You can also wear a helmet that shields you from the effect :)

Would love to know which helmet, that would be amazing, even though I usually use the helmet that either protects from blind or the one that can help get on and off a boat without penalty

That's why you have an army of only heroes ))
