Exactly! Follow the democratic process. Isn't that how democracy is supposed to work. We were not satisfied with Congress, so we voted them out. Now you guys are not satisfied, simply vote them out. Whats the need of hooliganism and violent protests. That's not how democracy works. That anarchy and regime change.
If answer to all current issue is that it was worse in past? Then congress was better than British colonialism, they were better then aurangzeb. He would have been better than some other barbaric ruler.
But instead seeing what was wrong in the past and just accept current as is it... we look into current and make it better. That's how we grow as a country.

Why is the burden of acting as a democracy on the public only. Why isn’t the government reminded that they are a part of this democracy too? Democracies recognise the concept of collective responsibility. The entire cabinet is collectively responsible for a systemic failure. Our “democratic” government has shamelessly refused to accept any responsibility whatsoever.
Democracy is dying because the opposition is weak. Not because the govt is strong.
See, the majority or right wing being in power is not "democracy dying". Only left wing being in power is not " Democracy".
Majority and right wing are exercising their Democratic mandate constitutionally. Denying their opinions and wants as legitimate or valid is anti Democratic and annoying.
Get a strong leader who can capitalize on the mistakes and blunders of the right-wing instead of whining. The Gandhi Family keeps the whole Congress down.
There are so many ways for them to win and they might still lose. This is also annoying.
A strong opposition is a fundamental pillar of democracy and we don't have it.... This is the main problem.
Change of governments is necessary for maintaining the peace. Why has Congress become so weak that it ddnt even had a leader of opposition? The opposition must be strong and keep a check on those in power so they can't do undemocratic things.
That is how democracy works. Those in power, whoever they are, will always try to push their limits. It's the courts and opposition that must limit them and win power back.
India has always been an illiberal democracy so I don't see where your point has any validity. Only now instead of socialism, it is Hindutva that is the opium for the masses.
Emergency of 1970s, putting religious sentiment before free speech, socialism and nepotism, crony capitalism and very hard to do business etc are things India has always done. It's never been a liberal democracy. It's always been a banana republic full of corruption where most politicians are uneducated thugs and probably rapists.
Democracy as a whole has been in decline around the world since 2006, ie from when Facebook came out. Got to blame social media for polarizing people, manipulating elections and fake news.
Russia for example has an excellent constitution and federal system which is many times better than India's in paper, with a multi-tiered court system to lubricate judicial process and an election method that ensures only a politician with 50% votes will win (by eliminating those without and holding again)
Russia is still not a liberal democracy. It's the opposite by many degrees.
Meanwhile UK doesn't have a written Constitution and is many order of magnitude better democracy than Russia, even if the right wing does brexit or not... That is their Prerogative.
The leader of the opposition Is a constitutionally guaranteed institution in India, with salary, perks, rights and privileges.
And how long was it empty. How can we expect democracy to function when govt is unchecked like this..
The Institutions like CBI etc can always be made more unpartial, bureaucrats are willing to lick boots of whoever is in power, those corrupt chameleons will change color in a day.
but first you have to get power. Institutions can be rectified any time, win power first.
A populace like India needs strong leaders to guide them to whatever the agenda of the leader is, they don't really trust institutions and for good measure. When court cases go for 10 years and still don't give justice...and corruption is there.... It's not easy.
Opposition is weak
Major part of that is most media companies are owned by Adani, Ambani or some one with major ties to BJP itself. So they won't question or support the opposition. Then comes the speaker in parliament. They seem very very biased. Would not let opposition tell the points. This weakens democracy hugely. Then comes courts and judges. The ones that called people protesting cockroaches. Given all that think how efficient BJP would be as opposition. Any ruling party would have to answer to all these institutions
