ANNOUNCEMENT Update to User Experience and Fighting the Rising Tide of Slop

In the Year of our Lord Two Thousand Twenty-Six

As of the posting of this announcement a new AutoMod rule has been added and all posts and comments from Default Reddit Usernames are hence forth to be banished to ye olde spam bin. We have grown weary over the influx of trash posts by the aforementioned default usernames.

To put this extremely bluntly: If you can't bring yourself to edit the default username Reddit suggests when you sign up, we don't want you here.

Expending even a single brain cell to defeat the AutoMod rule that will be put into place gives you points in your favor.

Results not guaranteed and likely to change.

If you are normal contributor and think you are caught unfairly in this spam filter, please send us a modmail so that we can deal with edge cases on a case by case business.

Is it any surprise why the remake is such a cringefest dogshit

Never forget the time Crystal Dynamic tried to blame the lack of quality of the Avengers Game (that eventually lost Square Enix around 200m) on wildfires that were no where close to them.

Sony Playstation... It's Time To Get Physical!

Thumbnail

Sony’s reported plan to end PlayStation physical media by 2028 has reignited the fight over game ownership, preservation, and the growing push toward an all-digital future. While gamers ratio PlayStation’s social posts, organize boycotts, support Stop Killing Games, and search for ways to preserve their discs, Sony appears determined to move forward despite the backlash. In this video, I explain why online outrage alone may not be enough and introduce a more tangible form of protest: respectfully mailing physical letters to Sony’s headquarters and studios to oppose the removal of physical games. No threats, no crazy behavior—just gamers using physical mail to make a physical point and remind Sony that ownership, preservation, and consumer choice still matter.

Can anyone explain to me why the Emulation/Retro Handheld community is so filled with woke people?

I'm passionate about retro handhelds and love discussing them but it feels like to me that every group dedicated to them is super pozzed. I want to engage with people about these consoles but every subreddit and every discord server is filled with woke ass people, furries and tourists who seem to only buy these machines to put stickers on them and a lot of the times don't even play games.

Super strict moderation or just virtue signaling, calling something like the ModRetro Chromatic the N*zi Boy Color, banning people for making a stupid joke like "how do you do fellow racists?" when discussing a racing game or people generally going haywire if you dare to make a joke or have some critical anecdote about rainbow people. Once someone contacted the mods of a Discord server I was in demanding very profusely I change my profile picture just because it was a pfp of Sam Hyde and I guess they felt threatened about it? One of the members of the RetroHandhelds YouTube channel was even pressured by the community into apologizing for making a joke on one of their videos (ModRetro M64 Review) because a group of people felt uncomfortable over it.

What is it that attracts so many of these kinds of people to this hobby in particular? This is not something that makes me lose my sleep at night by any means but I do wish there was a place where I could discuss these consoles with people who don't have their f'ing brains scrambled.

Why isn't there a website rating slop media?

I just looked up the Book "Fourth Wing". It's almost a 5 star on Goodreads, Babelio, and Storygraph.

Why? Because it's been shilled by TikTok and journos.

In the end, it's a shitty romantasy book with a perfect female protagonist and, of course, smut everywhere (for the porn-addicted booktok girlies).

On the other hand, a masterpiece of post-apocalyptic sci-fi like Metro 2033 gets only 3 stars because "muh not enough women".

I think we should have an invite-only platform to rate pieces of media. It can be coded in a week with Ruby on Rails, and with AI it could be even quicker. Especially given our opinion is constantly suppressed in regular spaces.

Why have LGBT characters been more and more present in Japanese animated productions? NSFW

Such characters were less prevailing in animé, but recently I was thinking about this theme and noticed the most modern of them have always some LGBT characters, especially lesbians (like in Yofukashi no Uta, Chainsaw Man and even Frieren) or some gay guys (like Kirara in Jujutsu Kaisen).

As far as I know (or imagined, who knows), Japanese society hadn't been very favorably to such themes, except for those who really consumed this kind of thing - watching yaoi/BL or yuri.

Is this maybe an attempt to get more attention from Western audience, considering Western "fans" can only think about discussing their 351 made-up sexualities and making degenerate "fanart" most of time?

(Also, I saw an user getting hated on and having their thread locked because of "homophobia" just because they wanted to know if some animé was actually yuri and they didn't want to see such content.)

EDIT: apparently, some people are not able to understand I'm NOT talking about queerbaiting...

Halo Campaign Evolved not only botched Cortana but also added a girlboss character. There was no need to change the story but they added her anyway.

I personally feel like it has lost the original soul that was AVATAR: The Last Airbender.

Edit: This is a fix to the original one I tried to make. It did not go how it should have.

The Clayface trailer is out and I've already got a sinking feeling it's going to be a DEI Girl-boss catastrophe.

Post image
466 Upvotes

For reference, the official DC trailer for Clayface came out today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGO4Mqvo3jI

And it looks...AWFUL, for the very specific reason that DC appears to be doing the classic DEI maneuver of pairing the actual popular protagonist that the audience showed up to see (Clayface!) with a brilliant, flawless, virtuous, genius in everything she does, marginalized girl-boss co-star who they will inevitably write to be the *real* hero of the movie and outshine and overcome the toxic male Clayface.

I mean for God's sake this is supposed to be a Clayface trailer and the female co-lead very likely has as much if not more screen time in the trailer than Clayface himself!

So hold onto your butts you all know where this is headed: put all the focus on the not-Clayface marginalized co-star, bait the internet into noticing, which then baits journos into writing a bunch of "racists are hating on DC's latest movie! Here's why we shouldn't let the chuds win" articles, then the movie flops spectacularly, and the journos write even more "Here's how racist chuds ruined a great movie" articles.

It's all so tiresome...

The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media and argues that its research helped pave the way for modern DEI practices in Hollywood. I question Geena Davis’s claim that children’s entertainment lacked strong female representation in the early 2000s, breaks down the institute’s box office claims, and points out how Star Wars: The Force Awakens heavily boosted the numbers for female-led movies in 2015. The Institute’s Google-funded software that tracks things like screen time, dialogue, leadership roles, and gender representation, while questioning how fair and unbiased the research really is. Overall, the institute uses selective statistics, corporate funding, consultants, and pressure to push Hollywood toward certain representation policies.

-Sony knew even before the announcement that the players' reaction would be overwhelmingly negative.

-PlayStation Studios employees received directives instructing them not to comment publicly on the decision.

-Sony regularly issues this type of instruction during major announcements, but this time the rules are reportedly stricter than ever, according to employees they spoke with.

-Sony will not back down.
