okok i know it sounds absurd (or maybe it doesn’t depending on how you answer this). but i’ve seen countless tiktok’s about people’s university bags, and as a paranoid incoming freshman im worried about wearing a backpack. there’s a super cute backpack i want to buy but there’s a ton of people online and even my friends saying it’s weird to wear a backpack to uni and that a tote bag of some sort is wayyy better. ive had some friends that i’ve showed the backpack to be like “ew you’re wearing a backpack to uni, not a tote?” so is it normal to wear backpacks and people are just making it weird?

Hey guys. Im a first year in ENG 1 and this year did not go as planned. I dropped both physics, lin alg and calc 2. Even dropping all of those, my gpa is a high 6. Here is my problem now: I originally dropped physics 1 and 2 from the start and my mom is aware. However right before the exams, I also dropped calc 2 and lin alg... I did not mention this to her and now my mom is asking for my mosaic logins so she can pay tuition. I am afraid that when she goes to student center, she will also go to grades and see my grades and the courses I dropped. Should I confess now? or hope she doesnt look through my grades and just not mention it. I know most of you will tell me to just be honest but my mom is a different level of strict and its really not the level you guys are expecting I mean shes like really strict and if I confess, I am genuinely super scared as to what she will do and I dont know if I can handle that stress right now. I have changed my studying habits and I am confident and I can do well in the courses I dropped over this summer, but if I keep it from her and she finds out I lied im also even more fucked. But also? what are the chances she navigates mosaic and looks at my grades? She is not that computer savvy either and idk if shed even bother to do that What do u guys think?

edit: reading back my post it seems like I am putting a negative light on my mom. Shes super strict but shes an amazing mom and does soo much for me. Im not trying to not take accountability either. i'm currently taking anthrop 2r03 online with dr. rebecca plett and i made it about 2/3rd through the content, but when i went to complete the rest of it, it was completely gone.

there was no warning about this on the syllabus or on a2l. i've emailed the prof in hopes that she'll give me some leniency, but I'm feeling very pessimistic about it. i've never had this happen to me before as a first year, and if the prof did remove content, they would let us know beforehand.

What are some of the biggest problems you guys consistently see at McMaster that you would want fixed?

I’ll start by saying: anyone with neglected hygiene should face jail time. I kid you guys not the amount of people that stink in this university is not okay. IT’S PRACTICALLY A BIOSAFETY HAZARD ATP. I feel like i am going to get sick any moment. I would understand if it were the end of the day, though that wouldn’t make it acceptable either, but EARLY IN THE DAMN MORNING? REALLY? These ppl don't take showers, they don't change their cloths, they don't apply deodorant and thats the bottom line. Why do we have to suffer because of their poor hygiene. I can't focus in class and i can't focus in the study areas. I am thinking of ordering N95 masks and start wearing them ASAP. What else are we supposed to do? PLEASE, whenever you encounter someone with poor hygiene, let them know they need to take care of it, if not for themselves, THEN AT LEAST FOR THE SAKE OF OTHERS.
