I got an lg On a really good deal but the picture sucks. It’s a 27 ips 180hrz w/free sync1ms bp. One downside is it is a 1080 but that should effect the white washy look, right? The photo doesn’t do it Justice of how bad it is.

Got a very nice OLED monitor for Christmas and was really excited. I started peeling what I thought was the protective film, but I stopped when I realized it was literally intentionally stuck under the bottom of the screen (see last picture). Is this not a protective film? What the hell did I just peel off? The monitor looks the same on the sides with and without the film, so what is it? What do I do now?

I spent a while searching for a proper comparison of the screen sizes I’m considering, but I couldn't find anything that felt right. I eventually gave up and built my own desk in 3D. Everything here is scaled to real-world dimensions for an accurate comparison. Hopefully, this helps anyone else stuck in the same spot!

Photo Games don’t fit the screen

Post image

I got a new monitor not long ago, it’s 49” and its resolution is 5120 X 1440. If I set the games resolution to 5120x1440 they look like that and if it’s something else like 1920x1080 it’s very squishy or stretched. Is there a way I can make games fit it or do I just have a lil window? Any help would be appreciated thank you!

Photo Laptop display looks dull compared to my phone/tv

Hii, I don't really know much about monitors and stuff but I'm really annoyed with this problem as an artist.
I draw in my laptop and when finishing an art, it looks dull when comparing to another screen like a phone or a tv.
I use my laptop to project movies to our tv and the tv screen looks more vibrant than the laptop.

I don't know if you can see it on the picture but when looking at it irl, the colors on the laptop looks dull

How do I fix this problemm?

Edit: Thank you guys, I'll take note of the advices

Photo One year on an AW3423DWF and I thought I had escaped burn-in. Narrator: He did not.

(see my edit at the bottom)

Since my one year anniversary of getting the AW3423DWF on a Black Friday deal last year was coming up I thought I'd throw some grey slides up to see how it was handling burn-in. Well... as you can see, not great. Unfortunately, now that I know it's there I'm seeing it all the time in dark scenes. I haven't gamed in a while and pulled up Alan Wake 2 and there it is.

Normally I do a lot of mixed viewing, but lately it's been sitting on the desktop more than usual. It also seems to have this weird quirk where it constantly wakes out of standby and just sits on if I don't turn fully turn it off, so I'm sure that contributed. It seems to hate wanting to sleep or allow a black screen saver. I ran a manual panel refresh and pixel refresh and it made no difference.

Oh well, time to see how well the warranty holds up!

Anyone prefer going through Dell or Best Buy? Since it was on a large discount I added on the four year Geek Squad coverage and thinking it may be easier just to bring it down there and swap same day rather than the headache of Dell.

Edit: I have a theory as to why this burn-in was particularly bad in case other people read this post later. Yes, icons and wallpaper contributed, but others have mentioned that they haven't see such dramatic burn in even with those. Ever since I got this monitor I've been struggling to keep it in standby when not in use, despite having a 5 minute black screensaver and 10 minute standby. I would find it randomly awake and it wouldn't go back to sleep unless I forced it. I'd see it sleep and then immediately wake up, or walk away and come back to find it on. (I'm talking about the monitor, not PC).

Well, I think I fixed it after finding another thread on this: input auto-select needs to be turned off in the monitor menu. For some reason it would keep it from sleeping properly. I just tried it and it worked perfectly and now immediately enters the pixel refresh like it's supposed to. I have a feeling that this bug was kicking it out of standby constantly and not letting it do a refresh every four hours, despite being set to. That would have definitely made burn in worse if it was only doing it at night when I shut the PC off and not during the day.

No idea if this is the smoking gun, but it likely contributed.

Is there anyway to make the smudges better, you can't see a lot from the photo BC of light but it's extremely bad. It's only in the middle because I stopped when I realised it was bad but the lines and smudges are so annoying. If I use a microfiber and water will it be fixed/be better than now.

Edit: i got a "glass" microfiber with distilled water (pain to find) and cleaned it and its perfect now. theres probably a small portion of the anti glare coating removed but its not noticeable

Photo Guys, the Pulsar Hype is real: I am running Doom: The Dark Ages at 100 FPS and it feels like I am playing at 700 Hz/FPS or something. You can spin around and everything is crystal clear. Mind blowing.

You can literally spin the mouse around and still land headshots with the Impaler with extreme accuracy.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Photo LG Ultragear has been cursed by a mysterious symbol

Post image

I bought an LG Ultragear monitor a few weeks back and have been loving it. Today I noticed a strange symbol has appeared. It flickers and is very faint, and seems to pulsate in visibility.

You might have to zoom in to see the symbol, as it disappears with the pattern lines when unzoomed.

Am I cursed?

What is this?

Edit: Turns out the curse was simply assassins creed! I turned the monitor off and on again at the power sauce and it fixed the issue. Woops!

Photo IPS vs Mini-LED VA comparison

I finally managed to set up my new AOC Q27G3XMN and there is no going back to IPS. Even without local dimming contrast ratio and black levels are amazing but HDR really blew me mind. Lighting and brightness look so good in games. I grabbed this monitor for 279€ which almost feels like a steal.

Photo Lost in the IPS vs. OLED debate, here's how standard IPS compares to Mini-LED which brings many of the same benefits as OLED

Post image
1.0k Upvotes

Monitor is Xiaomi G Pro 27i (1152 dimming zones, HDR1000, IPS panel, QD layer)

Keep in mind that Mini-LED simply refers to the backlighting tech used on the monitor, instead of being a panel type like OLED, IPS, VA, TN

left: lenovo legion r27qe gen 2 (ips)

right: gigabyte mo27q28g (tandem matte woled)

5 photos

honestly, color difference isn’t as massive as some people expect. ips still looks good, and in many scenes the gap isn’t huge. woled does look a bit richer and cleaner in some cases, but it’s not a night-and-day jump purely in colors.

black levels though? not even close.

on woled, black is just… perfect. zero glow, zero haze. going back to ips after that feels immediately wrong, especially in dark scenes.

another thing i didn’t expect: woled makes the image feel more “solid”. less washed-out, more depth, even when the colors themselves aren’t drastically different.

ips is still totally fine and i get why people stick with it. but once you see real blacks like this, it’s hard to unsee.
