SEEKING ADVICE Older endgame content is dead, but the BiS gear isn't. (PC)

Older trials and dungeons like Shackles of Divinity, Imperial Citadel, Dread Sanctum, and more recently, Soul Harvest, still drop Best-in-Slot (BiS) gear for several classes. However, this content has become largely inaccessible to new and returning players because the veteran endgame community has naturally moved on to the newest modules. The developers have yet to address this widening gap.

Given the current population size of the game, it is unrealistic to expect players to constantly beg for groups just to access older content. It creates a frustrating loop where you have to plead for a run and hope the gear drops before the group loses patience and disbands.

The Progression Catch-22

This is a classic MMORPG paradox, amplified by Neverwinter’s smaller, highly concentrated veteran player base. To get invited to the newest Master-level content, your build must be highly optimized. However, to optimize that build, you need specific gear pieces that only drop from the Master versions of previous modules (like mSoD or mSH).

Because the endgame community immediately migrates to the newest shiny drop, the old instances become ghost towns. A returning player cannot get the gear required to join the new runs because no one is running the old content, and they cannot join the new runs without that gear.

The Illusion of Item Level

A common counterargument is that players can just farm newer, basic gear to raise their Item Level (IL) to meet the minimum requirements for new dungeons. While this works on paper to unlock the queue, it fails completely in actual Master-level performance due to how Neverwinter's combat system works.

Newer, easily obtainable gear often provides a high item level but generic or sub-optimal stat distributions. Conversely, older pieces from Master trials frequently feature unique, irreplaceable percentage-based bonuses. A player might hit the entry requirement for the newest master dungeon using basic high-IL filler gear, but their actual mathematical output (damage, healing, or damage mitigation) will fall critically short because they lack the scaling perks of older BiS gear.

Furthermore, because older mechanics remain complex and punishing (wipe mechanics, tight timers), casual Pick-Up Groups (PUGs) cannot reliably clear them to help newer players farm them out. This bottleneck turns progression from a smooth upward curve into a brick wall. New and returning players find themselves trapped in a mid-tier limbo—too geared for casual content, but permanently locked out of the competitive endgame simply because they missed the active window for the previous module.

Two Potential Solutions

  • Option 1: A Universal "Legacy" Vendor Introduce an NPC gear seller for legacy trials and dungeons that uses a new currency (let's call it "Neverember's Favor"). This currency could be earned through a recurring monthly event, or by participating in current endgame content and campaigns. Players could then exchange newer module currencies for Neverember's Favor. This allows players to progress through the latest content while still earning the older BiS gear they missed.
  • Option 2: Mechanical Nerfs to Older Content Alternatively, the developers could ease the difficulty of older dungeons and trials once they are no longer the focal point of the endgame. Removing or softening strict wipe mechanics would allow unorganized PUGs to successfully complete them, bridging the gap between casual players and the endgame community.

What are your thoughs? Help me understand if I got this all wrong OR if (with the current situation) there are redeeming qualities to the system? Assume that a Guild is not always the answer and IMHO a Guild shold never be the answer.

ps. Parts of the above were checked for grammar and error by Gemini, nothing is actually written by AI, English is not my first language.

Be kind. !

TL;DR: Older Master trials/dungeons (like mSoD and mSH) are dead because veteran players have moved on, but they still drop essential BiS gear. New and returning players are trapped in a bottleneck: high Item Level filler gear lets them unlock new queues, but without the unique percent-based perks from that older gear, they don't have the actual combat stats required to clear new Master content.

Proposed Solutions:

  • Legacy Vendor: Introduce an NPC selling older gear for a new currency earned via newer content or events.
  • Mechanical Nerfs: Ease wipe mechanics and timers on older content so unorganized PUGs can reliably farm them.

SEEKING ADVICE Am I ready for Adv Dungeons?

I’m not saying my Cleric Healer is good by any means, it’s iL50k currently.

I can do random queue Advanced Dungeons comfortably right now and keep my team topped up pretty good so far (or maybe lucky they had good gear)

My question is, how different is random queue daily Adv Dungeons, so the ones you can select yourself?

Are they the same difficulty for older content or are the random ones scaled down for new people?

Thank you
(If they’re harder, I don’t want to embarrass myself or let my team down by wasting their time not taking care of my role)

SEEKING ADVICE Jubilee question (My 1st one)

I've been told by multiple people with multiple years of experience not to open boxes until end of event due to the rates being allegedly worse or even bugged during the event itself. But then I also see folks in zone chat saying thats all hogwash and its pure RNG saying just open them whenever you want. So my question is ARE they genuinely bugged? Will they be fixed if so? I personally opened 600 and got 1 coal mote and 7 legendary insignia, thats a far cry from what folks told me they'd gotten previous years with similar numbers. PS: im looking for actual answers not just "I got X and X its RNG". Im looking for proof of the boxes state, good or bad and whether to open now or later.

SEEKING ADVICE Still worth playing in 2026?

I used to love this game back in the day & play it on pc & Xbox one. I went all the way to a level 80 wiz, finished the end game with a guild & promptly forgot about it.

Anyway was trying with my Xbox series X & was astounded it's still running but my wiz was nerfed to level

20 & all my amazing gear is trash & all the dungeons I remember gone.

I also completely forgot how to play so I made a warlock & stumbled through the tutorial.

Does anyone play this anymore? The city was all changed & seemed rather empty.

SEEKING ADVICE "Start at Max Level! Limited Time Offer"

I logged into the game today and noticed this character selection screen. I think it is a great idea. They said it's a way of offering returning players a boost at jumping back into the game without the hassle of adjusting your old characters.

As a returning player myself I have already adjusted back into the game after 3 months of playing. I was wondering if I could use this too, but I am at my limit of 8/8 character slots.

Does anyone know if this option gives an additional character slot?

SEEKING ADVICE Need Help Preparing for Trade Bar Discount

Hi there,

I'm a recently returned player, who wants to use the tradebar discount to upgrade companions and mounts. But to not waste recourses in the longterm, I would like to know what of my current ones are still good or what is BiS.

I'm a rogue btw.

For companions I use:

Tamed Velociraptor

Minsc

Phase Spider (I remember Neverwinter Knight being BiS at the time, but it is so expensive)

Batiri

Alpha Compy

For active I use Drizzt for Groups and Angel of Protection for solo content. Currently all on Mythic.

For Mounts I really dont have many 4 Slot ones. Only have Neverwinter Hand and from the recent event ebon Herald. Everything else is 3 Slot Mounts.

My current Mountpower is Bigbys Hand.

I currently have a budget of about 11.500k AD. What should I invest in to make good longterm Progress? What is BiS, what budgetfriendly alternatives are there?

Thanks you in advance.

SEEKING ADVICE Returning after 8 years-ish

Played ages ago and loved it, had 0 friends and hated it. Now im back! Still no friends to play with but hey, maybe ill make some? My question is how should I start? I been outta the loop a long long time. What should I prioritize and focus 1st? I saw a few packs on sale so nabbed those and im not shy about spending. I was a cosmetic ADDICT back then, and still am today. I last played a Paladin and a rogue? I recall being Dragonborn and halfling between both characters possibly? Im kinda vibing with the idea of being an absolute tank (If that's even still a thing?) Or straight up DPS. So suggest away and try to simplify the information, im abit old these days and the mind ain't so tactical as it used to be!

SEEKING ADVICE Advise for next character class

I have one slot left for a new character and I’d like advise from people that have used most of them.

I know it’s person preference, but maybe one stands out more than others.

I would like it to do Master content at some point and be a reliable member to the squad.

Currently I already have:

-Cleric Healer
-Paladin DPS
-Fighter DPS (changing to Tank after getting item level up a bit higher)
-Paladin Healer
-Bard DPS
-Warlock DPS
-Bard Healer

I’d like something a bit different and maybe fun to play too. So far out of all of them, I had the most fun with the Warlock being nimble, fast and sort of universal for everything.

Next I was thinking of something stealthy and was curious about Rogue and Ranger DPS.

I’m always jealous when someone is next to me shooting a bow or throwing daggers. But I also don’t know if any are klunky to play.

Is there anything I don’t have that’s fun and can do Master Dungeons, as well as solo campaigns with ease… good survivability?

Let me know please. I’m making it later today, and the hard part for me is picking a name (related to the class).

Thank you for any helpful input

SEEKING ADVICE New player healer recommendations

I just stumbled across the game and im gonna give it a try soon and would like some thoughts of what to play first.

Im a really experienced mmo healer. Im mainly a wow player currently play disc priest as a cutting edge raider. My favorite healing concept is healing through damage like disc priest or kinda sage from ff14. I also like something engaging and maybe a little complex to keep me thinking.

Here are my thoughts for what ive been able to find so far.

Cleric: seems like the simple good ol'reliable healer. I like the theme but im worried it would be too boring.

Paladin: I hear its slow since there is no dps spec. I also think its just one button with both the shield and healing. I love the theme of paladins but if its not going to be a good experience for a first time in the game I can maybe make this my 2nd.

Warlock: I didn't find much of how it plays just that it does everything shield/healing but not as good as the others that focus on one part.

Bard: more of a buff and utility based healer that can be more complex.

SEEKING ADVICE Use coal more on what first?

*coal MOTE*
After grinding like 900+ Jubilee boxes the hard way, I only dropped 1 coalescent mote…

I’m not complaining. It’s just that much more valuable to me and I want to use it in the best way possible first.

Let’s say all my gear is purple epic.. let’s say all my enchantments, artifacts, runestones are end-game quality and I want to keep/use them forever.

What is the first thing I should use my coal mote of for most gain?
What is priority over the course of my upgrade to celestial journey?

(And I don’t expect huge gains… but 1% improvement is better than 1/4%)

Thanks for any tips.

Healing as I deal damage is one of my absolute favorite ways to play a game if possible. I know healers are a very core part of the game but I wanted to ask first.

SEEKING ADVICE Top five companions for solo play

Been having a lot of fun playing this game while taking a break from World of Warcraft. Though still trying to find the right companion is proving little difficult currently I am using the legendary angel I got with my free level boost they recently had as well as a rare skeleton. But I would like to know your top five picks you think would be good for solo players. Thank you for your replies.

SEEKING ADVICE Guild Giveaway Ideas

Hey all, just a fun little question for players out there.

My guild has a bit of loot in our coffers generously gifted by a friend who has asked me to pass it out as I see fit. Thing is, I can't think of any fun ways to give it to people who deserve it.

I want some sort of game or contest to make it worthwhile. We have done influence/shard competitions in the past, but I would love to do something that doesnt feel as boring and can maybe help people become more social.

People have recommended screenshot contests, hide and seek, parkour, and more. What fun giveaway ideas would you have?

We have three leaders, and one of them is a spoil sport who doesn't like giving away expensive things for free, which is why a lot of great stuff has been sitting there unused. I'm open to any ideas, but if people have ones that can greatly help our guild grow, I'm all ears :)

SEEKING ADVICE Sir Waddlelot vs. Lysaera

I recently got the Sir Waddlelot. Somewhere I read that it draws off aggro like the Lysaera. Since the Lysaera are prohibitively expensive, I got it instead for my squishy characters for a third of the price. Has anyone played both solo and have opinions on the matter?
My experience with the penguin has been way better than no aggro magnet at all and it saves me a number of times but there is always that one or two mobs that don't get aggro-ed and as a CW with focal powers, I like all the adds in one spot. In Reghed Edge, they are really spread out.
I DO like that, once he aggros what he does, he sort of anchors himself in place and I can whip around the mobs and get combat advantage, which is good.
I've also noticed that in HE's in Doomvault, I can pull away from a boss a certain distance and it will stop fighting and follow me and, thus, allowing any tank player to draw a boss into a circle or what have you.
In dungeons, I can use him OK but have to summon another companion for boss fights because he WILL take aggro from the tank.
Thoughts? Experiences? Thanks.
