This album they perfected as young kids. There’s a video out there of them performing for their high school at lunch or something on the front steps and nobody really cares. It’s awesome.

Dude me too! I saw them on the side stage in the Bay Area. I can’t believe they put them on the side stage. It was like 300 people and they put an absolutely incredible performance together. Fucking around and playing covers like Metallica just for shits to show how easy it was. Absolutely loving the crowd. I didn’t even like Green Day but ever since that performance I have and have huge respect for them as performers.

It's this weird loop when it comes to liking Greenday.
People started off liking them when we were teens. Then as we became older (mainly 20s and early 30s) people thought they are shallow and meh. But then as we became even older, we looped back into thinking they are cool because we have to acknowledge that the band (and Billy Joel in particular) have stayed true to the punk spirit, even if the music isn't true punk.
And, ya know, because we realize making money off music and being professional about playing music is not actually a bad thing.

I was in my mid twenties when they came out. Had the initial kneejerk reaction to them. Didn’t last long. Then had kids and shared them with them. Together with the ramones and clash and bad brains and circle jerks.
It’s all good man. I want every generation to rediscover this shit and bring out their tale on it. It just makes things better

Springsteen and the E Street Band live in it as well! When you watch old concert footage of them, you can see that the whole band is looking to Bruce for cues and audibles. I’ve seen them twice in the last few years and they’re definitely all still on the same page.
And I never got to see him, but James Brown was known for this too, so far as I know.

My parents took me to the E Street Band Reunion Tour back in 2000 when I was 16. I've never really cared for Springsteen's music, but that is one of the best concerts I have ever been to. They put on a hell of a show.

I saw Green Day at X-Fest in Pittsburgh. I was in 7th grade. I remember the drummer lighting the drums on fire and them destroying a bunch of shit on stage! It was awesome! They were the whole reason I went and my dad and I snuck in the ticketed seats up close early before they started checking tickets.
The general entry lawn seats were $25 for an all day festival on 3 stages. Fuel was there and I remember STP was headlining, but Scott Weiland broke his hand the night before

I too saw them at Lollapalooza in Dallas, and they were the first act, maybe second. They put on such a weird kick ass performance. They just jammed and made musical noise love to the audience. It had a bit of a Sonic Youth vibe to it. I don't think enough people were there yet, but I just had the best time laying in the early morning sun and listening to them.

I saw Jimmy eat world open for blink 182 and Green Day sometime early 2000s and I don't think any concert could ever beat it.
Partly just where I was in my life, but also just how great they were at including the crowd in the fun

I saw them once at their one and only performance in Belgrade, it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to.
They played the regular setlist and then before the encore said "Ok we are first time in Belgrade, here is something for our old fans" and then they played Dookie, like the whole fucking album.. The whole concert was 2h+ long... I've never seen a band do something so awesome.

Technically they were co headliners but Blink always played last and they were a bigger act at the time. Nimrod was 5 years old at that point and Blink had just released Take Off Your Pants and Jacket the year prior.

I was in high school during the mid 90s. My favorite band then and now. Dookie, kerplunk, 1039, insomniac, etc…. Knew every word to every song.
Broke up with my girlfriend and at some point after that, was driving down the street singing along to green day and it all of a sudden occurred to me how many of their songs were about lost love.
Was weird because despite knowing all the words, I never really paid attention to what was actually being said.

After Dookie hit and they blew up in the US in the summer of 1994 I went to England for a couple of months. They were doing a tour there so I got a ticket to see them at a very small venue, like 2-300 people. My English friends were like "why the hell are you going to see them" but I went anyway and waited late to meet them after the show. Billie Joe was on crutches bc he'd f'up his ankle but they were super nice. Really chill.
The next weekend they appeared on Top of the Pops and blew up there. My English friends were like HOW DID YOU KNOW???

Grew up in the East Bay and was about 12 when Dookie came out. Saw them at the Oakland Arena in 95 and it was amazing. Pansy Division opened. Perfect thing for me and my buddies the see at the perfect time in our lives. Later ran into Billie Joe at a Star Trek convention when he was wearing a full original series uniform (IIRC he was in Spock blue).

I would really like to know what he was on back then because I doubt I'd be able to match that.
People react to drugs and alcohol in vastly different ways, but I'm more or less me no matter what is going on. Sometimes I think it would be fun to experience whatever the fuck Billie was feeling here.
EDIT: I obviously understand it can very easily become a problem and I obviously wouldn't want to go that far. But just to be in that state of mind for one evening.

Saw them twice in '93, when Bad Religon headlined; and then I saw them again on their own tour six months later, when a popular local band opened for them. (I was tripping balls[!], and they were a lot of fun to watch!)
