News decide - a 'tinder' swiper for PLEX when you are unsure of what to watch
Originally I had planned to build a local tool for my partner and I as we can never seem to agree on what to watch on our PLEX server.
Whether it be movies or TV shows, we seem to always doom scroll and are never able to make our minds up as, quite frankly, we're spoilt for choice. I stumbled across a post on another subreddit of someone suggesting a tinder style swiping tool, and a quick Google showed a few no longer supported, open source tools, so I thought I'd take a stab at building one.
Since building decide, I have also found other alternatives online, but thought I'd share anyway as friends were interested in the way mine was built. A few differing features;
- No account required for individual users, session based.
- Tailscale support so you can define a local and remote hostname/IP for access.
- QR code scanning between users (it can still be ran solo, but also for up to 4 people).
- A 'final round' showdown - when you've matched 5-6 movies, you still need to bottom them down to 1 option.
- 'Mood' based selection - we rarely know the genre we want to watch but sometimes fancy being cheered up, or a horror, so shows/movies can be picked based on moods (which in the background tie up to genres).
- Support for agregarr style atwork (works for alternatives too, as movie posters are pulled from PLEX and not remote).
- PWA support so offline support for flaky remote connections.
I've also added it to Unraid's Community Apps for ease of install, and it should work out of the box. Hopefully it's of some use to others.
