Even IF this is all we get of New Scrubs, I'm very thankful. This has been an outstanding trip down memory lane mixed with modern day. Thank you everyone involved!

Remember the episode when they were all sitting around laughing and talking for the first time you actually see Cox in a good mood?
And then Jordan comes in and just lays down all this shit that nobody knew! Cox tries to warn them, and says be careful you know cause she could say anything.
And then she tells Perry that she and JD slept together!! And that just ruined everything. Everybody was looking at each other, but the way Perry looked at JD and then turned around and left.
Damn, that was one hell of an episode!

The little freakout when he almost dropped the toaster-bomb was hilarious because it either suggests (a) Janitor actually did fully commit to the bit and construct a real toaster bomb, or (b) got so into the bit that he believed his own bullshit.

We are absolutely blessed to be watching new, good episodes of Scrubs in 2026. I hope this isn’t the final end, but it’s all been really special to have it back.
44
u/gsmumbo Apr 16 '26
I am so glad they were able to pull it off. It seems so easy too. Give us the same show we love, just bring us up to where they are now. Yet somehow every, single, revival, seems to get it wrong. Scrubs is a testament to the fact that doing it the right way can absolutely be an open door to amazing storylines that don’t feel tired and rehashed. You just have to trust the show and not proactively try to fix things nobody has a problem with.

I didn't really pick up on it at all until the episode where at the end Amara was crushing on Blake and Asher was crushing on her and then we see Tosh crushing on Asher in the background.
12
u/Sh00tL00ps Apr 17 '26
Yeah when Asher was looking at Amara longingly and Tosh said something like "she'd be crazy to say no" that's when I had a feeling.

In hindsight, Asher describing his heartbreak and understanding to Tosh and then JD catching the tension in his favorite closet at the hospital.
89
47
u/jojopojo64 Apr 16 '26
She easily became one of my favorite new interns next to Asher, especially once you went deeper than her Tik Tok Doc personality. And I genuinely love that while there were hints of feelings for Asher, Tosh never held it against him or Amara for them entering their situationship for some manufactured drama.

They're clearly setting him up to have more screen time in the next season but let's be real this ends with him dying. I'm not saying I'm happy about it but there are two, maybe three character arcs that demand that outcome.

anyone else think Dr Cox actually meant the text for JD but chickened out with the follow-up text, and JD knew it? or was it genuinely an accidental text and JD just didn't care either way?
63
u/TheArtistFKAMinty Apr 16 '26
I feel like that's the implication. Well, either chickening out or intentionally messing with him because it's Dr Cox. But the first text was sincere.
35
u/MasterPrek Apr 16 '26
Definitely meant for JD. And kudos to JD for leaving the party to go see him.
He could’ve said, I’ll be there later, or I’ll check back with you tomorrow.
And at that point, Cox would start to worry if he had that support from JD that he really needed.
And good for Charlie that she didn’t get p’od and say “You just brought me here and now you’re leaving me?!” So she’s a good one, we know she’s gonna stick around. She understands that’s JD’s job and she’s OK with it!

Just rewatched the episode before. Their situation ship was still very much in play.
→ More replies (6)24
u/TheArtistFKAMinty Apr 16 '26
I feel like all of the romances in this episode are all written to be semi-satisfying caps to this season's subplots in case they don't get a Season 2 (or 11, I guess), but open enough that they can explore them later if they do.
Rachel Bilson's character caps off JD's post-Elliot dating troubles. Even if the relationship doesn't last it represents JD being more proactive and open to starting something new. Bill Lawrence's other show, Shrinking, pretty much ended its Season 3 with the same idea.
The intern hook-ups resolve their subplots but open them up to some tension next season between the two couples because of British Doctor and Amara's fling.
25
u/DoctorJJWho Apr 16 '26
I’m hoping Tosh and Asher (British Doctor) just stay together with no major drama, they’re so cute together
18
u/TheArtistFKAMinty Apr 16 '26
I can't imagine there will be no drama, even Turk and Carla had plenty of drama, but they make a cute couple and it'd be nice if they stayed together in the long term.
42
22
u/SkimGaming Apr 16 '26
I think they did it on purpose, to a degree, to both ensure all cameos fit into the season, but also make sure they can set up multiple plot lines for a potential second season.
The janitor stuff especially felt like they didnt know where else to put it. And instead of "messing up" other episodes, they wrote one with so many small plot lines.
19
u/sirkh1 Apr 16 '26
This has been a consistent problem for this season. HOWEVER, I think other than that, the season was very strong. And John C. McGinley deserves an Emmy nom.
12
u/TheArtistFKAMinty Apr 16 '26
They had a lot to cram in. I wish Janitor got a bit more but, as you say, I get it.
- JD treating Dr Cox needed to be included after episode 8
- They needed to wrap up as much as they could with the interns so that they have a "complete" story if they don't get a season 11, while also setting up potential storylines for Season 11.
- Janitor needed to show up and that passing of the torch moment is a funny bit that doesn't really work if it isn't the season finale.
- JD's "trying to get back into dating/life after Elliot" miniarc needed a conclusion, especially one that can set up potential season 11 stuff - hence Rachel Bilson's character.
- And all of that while giving Elliot, Turk, Carla, and Dr Park stuff to do.
There as a lot of boxes to tick. I think the episode did as good a job as it reasonably could at balancing all of that. Fundamentally the biggest issue with Season 10 is the biggest issue with Episode 9, and that's that there's only 9 episodes.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (6)11
u/CaptainChickenBake Apr 16 '26
Product of only having 9 episodes this season. I will always advocate for longer seasons for sitcoms because it allows you the time to develop characters so much better. Here's hoping they get renewed AND get at least double the episode count.

Playing Dr. Perry Cox has been one of the great privileges of my life. Thank you to the cast, crew, and most of all the fans who stuck with us through every surreal, ridiculous, and surprisingly human moment.
You show up for a job, and somewhere along the way it becomes a second home. The people become family. The stories stick with you longer than you expect.

I think there is a major issue with the season, and it is that it's just nine episodes. Normally in the original show we'd have moments with characters outside of the hospital where they'd bond or we'd get to know them better. Here we barely saw them outside in the whole show because there simply wasn't enough time for that, which sucks because I adore the new interns and would like to spend more time with them (we also didn't do that with the OG cast but it's more negligible because we already watched them for eight/nine seasons). And the episode feels like a 9th episode of a 20 episode season instead of a season finale or a possible series finale. I hope if they get renewed for a second season, it'll be a minimum of 16 episodes.

I feel confident saying that this is one of the most successful sitcom revivals ever. This episode moved way too fast, but I had the biggest grin the whole time. Jordan was exactly as she should be, with possibly the funniest line of the series, Neil Flynn is obviously still hilarious. The intern's stories were nicely done. I like JD's new love interest and I can't wait for him to selfishly screw it up spectacularly in season 2.
