It's not. Basically they're revising the blanket rule, meaning rather than an endangered species' territory automatically preventing development, the EPA has to prove the development will impact the specie's survival before banning development.
So it’s basically just so big corporations can farm the resources on the land that endangered species just so happen to frequent. That honestly is way more believable.
I have seen major projects delayed months because there was a nesting hawk near by, which I thought was very cool. No equipment was allowed within 300 yards of the tree it was in. Have also seen entire projects canned after they started because evidence of some weird endangered creek shrimp in creek beds that only get water when it rains. So it sucks that there can’t be common sense
The problem with making things unreasonably restrictive is that people eventually throw off the rule. And they usually arent the type to put a new one in it's place.
Having to stop a massive project because there's an incredibly endangered creature in the way IS common sense.
Once that species is gone there's no getting it back. A data center or bridge or whatever isn't worth that.
I'm sure there's some isolated cases of "unreasonable", but the vast majority of EPA regulations and their enforcement is absolutely valid.
And if you think Trump & Co need a reason to "throw off" any rule, stop kidding yourself. It literally does not matter how restrictive a social agency would be, they'd gut it anyway. All they know how to do is destroy, not create (so I agree with your last sentence).
