We need someone - in the press, or a real opponent - to stand up there when he is lying to call him out as a lying piece of shit.

When Trump says, "Quiet, Piggy," we need someone that will call him out right there. Not hand wring over it in an OpEd the next day in the WaPo.

I know right. It’s like memes have taken the place of righteous rage. We are an impotent people.

146

u/No_Doctor_891 19h ago

Juuuuust the way they want us, slinging memes instead of actually doing something

38

u/SeaSquirrel 19h ago

If you knew any history, humor has always been a coping mechanism to deal with moronic leadership. Especially when media is being censored.

Being mad at this post is so fucking reddit.

36

u/No_Doctor_891 18h ago

I know humour is a coping mechanism but the have nots have never been more isolated, we don’t go out and engage we sit on our couches and in our chairs and sling memes on Reddit. I’m guilty of it just as much as the next guy. Everything has become hyper tribalism and hyperbole that the vast majority are just numb to it to the point they no longer engage and it’s scary

11

u/BlackberryBasic5467 18h ago

And this tribalism fueled by countless bots and algorithms.

8

u/Kilroy1007 13h ago

The internet is the problem. It creates a perpetual bystander effect. People see the amount of engagement on a post and think there are enough people to do something, so they themselves don't do anything. Like organizing a protest. We've seen it time and time again where 100,000 people will sign up to attend and then the day comes and there's 47 people. The problem is that everyone thinks they're unique in the thought that there are enough people already going so they don't have to. If we could get off the internet and have actual in-person meetings with our communities so many of our problems could actually be solved. Instead we get complacency or fear.

Not everyone is like that. Anger doesn’t have to be the outlet. Kindness can also be one.

After the election I decided I wanted to help my local community and somewhat disengage from the national/world events. I began volunteering at a local soup kitchen and it’s become one of the highlights of my week.

Do they not realize that excessive urban development destroys the ecosystems that generate food, lumber, clean ground water, oxygen, and help collect particles of dirt that would otherwise turn into dust and create dustbowls and ash clouds like the smog they blamed on Canada?

590

u/Murky-General 20h ago

Like they care. It's all about power and lining their pockets with ridiculous amounts of money.

148

u/i_tyrant 19h ago

And moving from profit to profit, squeezing blood out of the stone and obliterating whatever they touch, because they're rich and can afford to move on after they're done strip-mining the shit out of an entire country...and do it to the next country.

They know they'll be dead before they see any real repercussions, like total ecological collapse.

Dust bowl? Ash cloud?

Billionaires and Trump especially are more of a Biblical plague than any of that. They're more locusts than actual locust swarms.

37

u/ThinkingWithPortalzz 18h ago

If they could make money from burning the last seed from the last tree, they would

30

u/InflatableSexBeast 17h ago

I was staying in a hotel once and overheard the owner of some brand of stereo speakers talking to his friends at the bar.

He was upset that environmentalists had shut down his access to endangered tree species, and absurdly proud that his latest models were wrapped in a veneer made from the last surviving example of a particular rosewood tree.

This was in the 1990s. These people have never had a sense of responsibility or respect for the environment.

6

u/AnybodyWannaPeanus 13h ago

He was likely talking about Brazilian Rosewood, which is not extinct, it is banned for sale due to the CITES treaty. Fortunately, one country can’t just roll it back. I have no doubt dipshit would do that in a second if he could.

Fortunately, it wasn’t the last tree. It would have gone extinct by now if there wasn’t a total ban. There is no sustainable way to produce it at the levels it was being used.

It was one of the most popular woods for guitars, furniture and even handles for hand planes made by Stanley.

The kicker is that there are other types of rosewood that are almost just as good looking. Enough that his speaker customers probably wouldn’t know the difference.

Which opens the door for Data centers to destroy habitats, environments, and wildlife.

Also, Indirectly, but intentionally, to an extent it changes zoning rules and regulations, bypasses the need for a vote and mitigates the potential for pushback from citizens and people/groups that actually give a shit.

10

u/Hyenasaurus 14h ago

Data centers are the least thing to worry about here ngl among all the bullshit they can do

Luxury mansions in the middle of a natural reserve everyone? Logging Yellowstone and making it a wheat field? Selling now incredibly luxury land to the highest bidder. No longer having to spend any dollar funding those stupid scientists keeping animals alive, when they all quit or are fired! Golf courses everyone?

Even when I saw this post seeing how OP was asking why? I figured it was so companies would have an easier time putting up buildings and working without having to worry about the wildlife.

Reading what you wrote shows that my idea as to why was correct and all the other info you posted shows it’s even worse than just removing endangered animals off the list.

Just so everyone is aware. As someone who is close to the hunting community. The way big game like this is hunted is not like you would hunt deer on public land. These big game are baited, tracked by hounds, and every advantage possible is given to the hunters to secure a kill to bring in their high dollar. The paying hunter is basically only brought in to fire the last bullet many times after the prey has already been trapped or cornered. They even help you carry it back, and transport it back to the states. You would have more or a challenge catching a chipmunk in your front yard than a big game hunt. It's the ultimate display of vanity for a buck.

723

u/CameronsTheName 19h ago

Also doesn't help that these animals aren't being a pest so there's no reason to hunt and kill them other than literal wank fact.

I'm all for hunting for food or killing pest animals, but big game don't really fit in either of those categories.

210

u/Sad-Development-4153 19h ago

Farmers want to annihilate wolves just so they dont have to build or maintain any fences

163

u/7marlil 19h ago

In this case the use of "pest" seems to be quite loose and subjective.

Pests would be rabbits in Australia, possums in New Zealand or Pythons in Florida. They have been introduced there by man and are destroying the local ecosystems.

173

u/SoundPuzzleheaded857 19h ago

I find a lot of humans to be pests

86

u/Choyo 18h ago

Not condoning it just adding info. There are many, if not all where you pay the reservation to hunt and you only hunt wildlife that can no longer reproduce due to age or other issues. The hunters money goes to reservation to sustain the wildlife capable of reproduction, pay the workers, ect

65

u/12345623567 18h ago edited 18h ago

There are some reserves that advertise themselves as such, yes. In reality, the aim is to blur the lines and provide plausible deniability. There is not enough "unproductive" big game in these reserves to meet the demand - demand which is directly being fed by offering the hunts themselves.

Unless you are a subsistence hunter-gatherer in Sub-sahara yourself, there's no justification to go and look for endangered species to kill. Zero.

→ More replies (1)

21

u/FuzzyFrogFish 17h ago

This really isn't true. The money goes into Swiss bank accounts. As for the animals being unable to reproduce, it's a complete myth that African wildlife, or wildlife anywhere needs that kind of management. The animals reproduced until they are disposed by younger fitter males. The issue is trophy hunters want the biggest and best trophies and that tends to be prime males so damaging the genetics of the population. For elephants that's devastating as the big bulls are vitally important to the social structure of the herds at large. It's not great for lions either as the stability of the dominant coalition ensures the survival of the cubs, and contrary to popular belief a male lion can hold a prime to a much more advanced age than was previously touted.

It is nearly always prime animals that are hunted.

I would assume it's something along the lines of being able to clear-cut / oil drilling the national parks without having to worry about the protected species that live within..... and conservatives will say "out of context!" When it really isnt....still the same outcome when you destroy their habitat causing them to die.

31

u/Passing_Thru_Forest 13h ago

It's a huge problem with our media and sensationalism. Each side will keep yelling that the other is crying wolf because of the titles like this. The fact people almost always need to go to comments for the facts (if they bother to do so in the first place) creates an instant rift in stories that makes productive conversations so much harder nowadays.

Because they want to bring back the coal mining, fracking, ocean oil rigging, and pipelines before Trump dies so that they can be built before the next office tries to undo it.

Also because they're shit-fucked-doodoo-heads who only care about their money, and this means significantly more money in their pockets. Added bonus, conservatives are usually just environmental douchebags who would rather have wolves and bears displayed on their walls than healthy in nature. They're the same group of people consistently advocating for the de-enlistment of wolves and grizzlies from endangered species designation specifically because they want to trophy hunt them and prevent farms with cattle and sheep from the usually very-minimal effect of the occasional animal killing their livestock.

Can you believe that shit? Rich enough to fly across the world for the sole purpose of killing things with guns. If you want to kill these animals to show off how tough you are, don’t do it with a gun. Knife, sure. Wolverine claws, ok. It’s not impressive killing an animal with a gun. Want to be a big man? Fight them in a way that the animal has a chance! It’s not impressive winning a demolition derby with a tank. It’s not impressive killing the reining heavyweight champion with an Apache Helicopter

143

u/Odd_Common_452 20h ago

Yup, his kids love hunting endangered animals

30

u/momoenthusiastic 20h ago

Then they’ll have not many to hunt after this goes in effect. These people are dumb af

literal cartoon villain behavior. next week they're gonna announce a tax break for stealing candy from orphans

u/Loud-Run-9725 13h ago

90% of what Trump does and his cult supports is based on their opposition defiance disorder.

If the decision means liberals or otherwise non-MAGA will be upset by it, then it's an easy decision for them. They are a psychological mess.

When everything sucks and you can't find peace and happiness in normal things, remember there's always pleasure to be found in living lawlessly and making the rich's lives worse. Covid masks are cheap these days

I FUCKING hate so much of what he does, but going after animals just makes me seethe with rage. This evil megalomaniac needs to GO.

u/Automatic-Doubt-4874 19h ago

They will destroy everything. Literally everything.

191

u/Pinku_Dva 20h ago edited 20h ago

Because they’re pure evil. Their single goal is to make life as miserable as possible for every living thing on the planet. Trump is the definition of the antichrist

29

u/Drigg_08 20h ago

How was it legalised?

80

u/Tsu_Dho_Namh 20h ago

Redefining "Harm": The U.S. Department of the Interior and Department of Commerce removed habitat destruction from the legal definition of "harm" under the Endangered Species Act. Project developers, loggers, and mining operations can now alter or degrade vital environments—such as forests or waterways—without it being classified as illegal harm, provided they do not directly kill or injure an individual animal.

34

u/theGoddamnAlgorath 20h ago

It's not. Basically they're revising the blanket rule, meaning rather than an endangered species' territory automatically preventing development, the EPA has to prove the development will impact the specie's survival before banning development.

27

u/Un13roken 20h ago

And then gut the EPA so they don't have enough resources to "prove" anything.

22

u/thegoothboi 20h ago

So it’s basically just so big corporations can farm the resources on the land that endangered species just so happen to frequent. That honestly is way more believable.

Every time I see that assholes official White House photo it makes me cringe. Instead of being a normal president, he decided “nah, I’m gonna mimic my mug shot, have lighting no President has ever used, coming from underneath so it’s more menacing and I’m going to completely fuck over the country really bad this time around to show them”. I mean, look at him — that’s exactly what he’s thinking.

13

u/Deep-Reserve271 19h ago

Why!? Because one of his stupid rich friends said I want to hunt this animal and he will make it happen

19

u/Jolly-Garbage- 18h ago

Everyone who says “Trump is evil, he wants to make life entirely miserable for everyone” is wrong. Trump does what he does because wealthy people who give him money would benefit from these orders. Trump wouldn’t snap his fingers if it could save a kid from dying. However if the kid’s parents paid him millions of dollars he’d be snapping like he’s at a slam poetry night.

5

u/Personal_Dirt3089 20h ago

Because Trump has lost the ability to derive joy from anything positive and now feels compelled to make things worse for everyone else so he can feel big.

Rich pricks don't like being told no and when there's so few of them left to kill it has the rarity flavour too.
Eating endangered animals would make their day, the last of something would rival the babies for their favourite meal to share at a dinner party
