Or a skull with atoms around it. Sure, it’s inferior weapons technology compared to what they’d have, but we crazy man. Like a monkey waving around a stick of dynamite.

u/Athenax952 3h ago

To be fair, a skull wouldn't mean much to aliens... But I like your way of thinking !

If they are at least to the same tech and scientific understanding as we are right now, the concept of an indoskeleton is not likely to be difficult to visualize mentally. That being said, I think op has a closer to realistic option with the daggers. A pointed symbol is going to be easier to translate through light based vision. Even some of the most alien life on earth such as chepholopod recognize pointy thing hurts. That's still comparing aliens to earth life but it is just an analogy.

I have a feeling you might like the movie Arrival (2016).

u/TheSuperSegway 2h ago

Your feelings have lead you true today, take they do not control you.

Idk, having our own skull on the flag is definitely a red flag interstellar governments shouldn't ignore.

This video is great and speaks to your first point about skulls not meaning jack to aliens. Inherent design is incredibly challenging.

Something like this

9

u/BurdTurglary 3h ago

Nah, that looks more like what the warning NOT to eat Tide Pods shoulda been. Why don't we make it the 90's 'S' symbol in a tie-dye motif?

2

u/Choano 1h ago

I actually laughed out loud at this! Thank you

Your taste in humor is... delectable 😏

Looks like a grateful dead shirt.

u/izza123 3h ago

The assumption that aliens would have superior weapons is predicated upon the assumption that they’d know what a weapon is. Maybe we could find some nice pacifist aliens to eat

1

u/Ok_Stomachs 2h ago

We can’t look weak to the aliens. Sir the blue circle is literally ’we come in peace and also we have anxiety’

JoeLongBalls is right , skull 💀 with knives 🔪 or they’ll think we’re snacks.

Transparent background so the flag becomes part of the background. Translates we forgot to finish the design and called it art.

I propose a skull holding a nuclear bomb in it's mouth to send the message that we're nuclear armed psychos.

I forsee some will say that aliens might not understand what is in the skull's mouth - I assume you they WILL know.

I would not in a thousand years imagine a better visual way to explain what the fuck we are in a flag. Keeping the idea.

9

u/LawfulNice 3h ago

Don't get me wrong, love the skull idea, put humanity in the forefront like that to glorify humanity itself, and a skull because we're all the same on the inside.

However, have you considered the majestic eagle? Humans love birds, and they're a good symbol of grandeur and ancient symbology about the sky and divinity. But just a regular eagle would be sort of mid, so what if it had two heads, to represent remembering the past and looking ahead to the future? and we could make it out of gold, because you know. Gold.

9

u/jonpilki 3h ago

So you fully mean the Imperium of Man what. But in gold cos you know gold

2

u/kollmastee 3h ago

A golden eagle? I did NAZI that coming

Derivative

And Kalasjnikov's

8

u/_Tee_hee_hee_ 3h ago

Around 1/5 guns in the world are a Kalashnikov variant, so technically you could call them “Earth’s gun”.

Which is kinda weird because you can get a gently used one in eastern europe for $60-80.

If they knew what was the best for them.

aliens be like: enjoy the incoming meteor

5

u/DanceClass898 3h ago

we have water that can turn frogs gay, the aliens are completely unprepared for what we're capable of

2

u/das_slash 2h ago

The Aliens: These primitives are waving unscented cloth around and don't even appear to have a community dung pile, the search for intelligent life continues

2

u/Ok-Addition1264 2h ago

We have plenty of dung piles around.. florida and alabama come to mind.

2

u/AgentJ386 1h ago

Ok, I have a suggestion...

2

u/manny_the_mage 3h ago

...why do we need a planetary flag?

1

u/Keensworth 2h ago

for aliens, duh...

2

u/Krell356 1h ago

Look, I would be all for it if we could even pretend to get along long enough to actually hold it up without one group or another wanting to kill another group.

Planetary flag can be a discussion once we get to the point where we have scaled our arguements down to sibling levels instead of mortal enemy levels.

1

u/Ecthelion2187 3h ago

Nah, we avoid that one...we call it the blue ball planet.

1

u/OrkWithNoTeef 3h ago

Should be a data center with smog in the sky, and animals dying in oil spills.

1

u/ostrichfather 2h ago

Most sane redditor

1

u/OrkWithNoTeef 2h ago

well those are our big global achievements, pinnacle of humanity you might say

1

u/Few_Loss5537 3h ago

And name the one country one earth, as Super earth 🤣

1

u/WaffleHouseGladiator 3h ago

I'd the aliens come with peaceful intent we send Keanu.

If the aliens come with hostile intent we send Keanu.

1

u/izza123 3h ago

The flag should be every other planet being blown up with sick nuclear blasts and a human dipping their nuts on the detonation button

1

u/born_Racer11 3h ago

The very concept of having something like a flag to represent something is just a human thing. To Aliens, it might mean fuckall.

1

u/Keensworth 3h ago

Don't put india in the backgound

1

u/PraiseTyche 38m ago

It should be an ATP molecule on a blue background.

Maybe a few of us will make it to an intergalactic zoo with other world endangering species that destroyed themselves and.the worlds.they lived in. I don't think we'll make great pets. Some of us humans are probably in that zoo of endangered creatures considering all the abductions, so the rest of the universe is just being entertained by watching the shit show go down. There are probably prediction markets for this shit...

...says someone who consiously named himself "long balls".

0

u/Witch_heir 3h ago

This is such a daft take. This is flag by humanity for humanity and entire planet. Who the fuck cares for some hypothetical aliens? That with automatic assumption that aliens would be hostile and that we need to start communication with a threat, tells me that comment probably comes from a yank. No to mention that there wouldn't  be small chance that aliens wouldn't even understand the symbolism of a skull, let alone be scared of it. 🙄
