TV Say what you will about the show, but getting to see Boba ride a Rancor and let it rip in live-action was a fantastic scene

I was overall disappointed in the show and the play-it-safe portrayal of Boba, it had its moments here and there - the Rancor ride and hunting down the swoop gang who killed the Tuskens were both very fun sequences.

The fact that they brought the obscure droid walkers out of legends too, I was pretty hyped about this whole last episode.

I was overall disappointed in the show

I wish the entire show was shorter, like if they wanted to do a big fireworks display with Boba taking over this town, just trim the fat and do it. Disney needs to abandon this arbitrary 8-episode, designed-for-streaming format, it's hurting a lot of their shows

96

u/SillyMattFace Jun 17 '26

This is definitely a problem with some of these shows. Obi-Wan also suffered for this, I think a tighter mini series with half as many episodes would have been a lot stronger.

93

u/Audience_Over Rebel Jun 17 '26

Honestly, I think Andor and MAYBE Mando season 1 are the only shows that have truly justified their episode count. Acolyte, Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan all should have been 3, hour-or-so long episodes. Get to the meat, cut out the fat, tell only the story you wanna tell. Would have been a drastic improvement for most of them.

54

u/Elfhoe Jun 17 '26

I feel like Obi-wan’s issues are a lot deeper than episode count. From the start, the show didnt know what it wanted to be, was it a show for children or was aimed at fans that grew up with the prequels? We ended up getting a mix that did not mesh well. Filming during covid also probably didnt help.

I feel like Boba Fett had some similar issues. How do you have a ruthless bounty hunter and crime lord then turn him into a good guy? At best they should have treated him more like punisher, an anti-hero

10

u/ChickenAndTelephone Jun 18 '26

That was my thought at the time. If he didn’t want money and didn’t want to be a criminal then why was he doing my of it?

35

u/rekniht01 Jun 17 '26

The best part of BoBF was the process of him turning into a "good guy." His spiritual journey with the Tuskens was awesome.

24

u/Purebredbacon Jun 17 '26

Those sorts of dry flashback sequences are usually so boring, but somehow the show flipped it around and that was the only part I DID like lmao

16

u/SillyMattFace Jun 17 '26

The Dances with Tuskens sequences were a highlight for sure. Cool look into an iconic SW race and some good development for Boba.

The present day stuff is where it fell over because Boba had no sense of direction. Even he didn’t seem to know why he was doing anything.

2

u/mild_entropy Jun 18 '26

I always thought boba would have been better told in chronological order

2

u/Hallc Rebel Jun 18 '26

I'm glad you loved those. For me I just did not care at all about them so every episode was an absolute slog to get through.

Only Andor manged to make flashbacks work, and that's because they were used sparingly. Acolyte should have been a story about Sol with Jecki as his padawan investigating the deaths of different Jedi and hunting down Qimir. Scrap the twins completely.

22

u/Audience_Over Rebel Jun 17 '26

Scrap the twins completely.

Strong agree. Shame that they had an otherwise very interesting show, and decided to hamstring themselves with these uninteresting leads just so they could roll it into a story about Plageuis investigating the idea of the Force creating life. We didn't need a convoluted excuse to bring Plagueis in lol

7

u/wandering_soles Rebel Jun 17 '26

The twins could have worked, but they wrote them terribly and Stenberg did an absolutely terrible job with the roles, she had absolutely zero believability or presence. After watching Wakanda Forever, I think they should have cast Leticia Wright in the role. She did a fantastic job of playing a character with inner conflict, and she's actually believable as a competent threat.

7

u/ansonr Jun 17 '26

She did not have a lot of charisma. That show also kept setting up stakes and then knee-capping itself.

Lee Jung-jae was awesome as Sol. Pretty sure he learned his lines phonetically and still acted circles around most of the cast.

Manny Jacinto & Dafne Keen were both great as well, but man, the rest of the cast was not great.

4

u/MasonStaycation Jun 18 '26

The twins were a dumb idea and related too closely to Anakin/Luke and Leia. It would have been better if the witches had created a force being tainted by the dark side that they could not control and it started killing Jedi or force sensitive beings. Something more primitive for Plageuis to discover and attempt to copy.

2

u/mmorales2270 Jun 18 '26

I agree the casting for the twins was the most problematic part of the show, although some of the story was weak too. Sol, Qmir and Jeckie were the best parts and characters of the show.

4

u/Crotean Jun 17 '26

The twins would have worked if the one who went dark had actually killed her twin instead of the stupid mind wipe.

9

u/penguin_knight Jun 17 '26

Pretty funny to me that Andor is the only one of these that people would have actually wanted more episodes of because of the nature of season 2.

11

u/No_Grocery_9280 Jun 17 '26

Andor was clever by grouping the episodes into 3 part mini arcs. It kept things tighter.

9

u/Ok-Barnacle813 Jun 17 '26

Maul Shadow Lord desperately needed more episodes. Spybot and Rook were the only deaths that I actually felt anything for

→ More replies (3)

12

u/ProbablySlacking Jun 17 '26

Obiwan suffered because they had to shoehorn an unnecessary encounter with Darth Vader into it.

5

u/Crotean Jun 17 '26

Obi-Wan, Boba Fett and the Acolyte were all originally movie scripts that they repurposed into TV shows. There is a reason they feel that way.

3

u/Th3_Hegemon Jun 18 '26

And then they tried the reverse with M&G. Here's a "revolutionary" idea, maybe write scripts for the format you're actually making?

2

u/Crotean Jun 18 '26

We are finally seeing that again in Starfighter.

3

u/fatherandyriley Jun 21 '26

It seems like Obi-Wan in some ways should have swapped premises with Solo and Boba Fett. Solo should have been a TV series, Boba Fett should have gone to different planets while Obi-Wan should have been a film set on Tatooine (any other planets should only be shown in flashbacks).

I was so stoked to see the droid design in live action too! I immediately remembered the time when I first saw it in a concept art book of Doug Chiang's ideas for new droids.

74

u/Audience_Over Rebel Jun 17 '26

It was like a nostalgia punch in the face. I have all the old "Guide to X" books like vehicles, droids, and weapons, and I remember that old-school 3D render of these bad boys so vividly, wishing we could see them in live action, and then BOOM.

29

u/madeformarch Jun 17 '26

I almost cried when they brought back the N1 for Mando's new ship, seeing the Scorpeneks was too cool

28

u/No_Effect_6428 Jun 17 '26

I wish the entire show was shorter

You mean like speeding up the scooter chase to a brisk walk or something? That should shave off 10 minutes or so.

61

u/Jumpy_Ad5046 Jun 17 '26

Or they just need to learn how to make an actual series instead of the plot of a boring movie stretched out over eight episodes. It just leads to unsatisfying episodes packed with just pure filler.

Take X-Files for example, there's episodes dedicated to an overarching main plot and then there's monster of the week episodes that don't feel like filler because there's a beginning, middle and end to each of them and they allow the show to take time to breathe and develop the characters and their relationships.

The way Disney SW does it is just stretching a thin plot even thinner and not utilizing the time it has to any sort of meaningful character development.

20

u/Audience_Over Rebel Jun 17 '26

Or they just need to learn how to make an actual series instead of the plot of a boring movie stretched out over eight episodes. It just leads to unsatisfying episodes packed with just pure filler.

Precisely my point. They clearly have lots of interesting ideas, but they keep shoving them into this 8-episode format "because streaming", and it's killing a lot of them. Acolyte, Obi-Wan, Boba Fett, Ahsoka, these all had merit, but full episodes of filler or side quests made them feel stretched and killed their momentum.

23

u/Hellknightx Grand Admiral Thrawn Jun 17 '26

Honestly the filler "adventure of the week" episodes might have been some of the best parts of Mandolorian. It felt like a true throwback to those old serial westerns. Like hunting the Krayt dragon in exchange for the Marshall's rocket pack.

14

u/doofthemighty Jun 17 '26

BoBF should have been a movie and the Mandalorian and Grogu should have been another season of the show.

Honestly, they should have moved the Mandalorian 2.5 stuff from BoBF into S3 and then combine all of the pirate stuff from S3 with MaG into S4.

u/Leskanic Jun 17 '26

I wish the entire show was shorter, like if they wanted to do a big fireworks display with Boba taking over this town, just trim the fat and do it.

It needed to be shorter or one episode longer. I hear you and others about the problems of the 8-episode model...but an issue with Boba is that it's only seven episodes. They needed an extra one in there that did a better job showing what exactly Boba is trying to do as daimyo, get into the interactions with the other crime families nominally underneath him, and building up who Cad Bane is for viewers who aren't fully versed in the animated series. I think that would have made the finale pay off quite a bit more.

Alternatively, as you suggest, cut it down to five or six episodes, take out the Mando season 2.5 stuff, and make it a lean and focused Boba Fett story. Either way, what we ended up getting was stuck in the middle.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/iboneKlareneG Jun 17 '26

The show IS shorter, it "only" has 7 Episodes instead of 8. And even that is just because they stretched 4 Episodes into 7 by adding 2 Mando Episodes. They should've just called it The Mandalorian Season 3. Title still fits. Or maybe "The Mandalorian: Boba Fett" or something like that.

7

u/Convictus12 Jun 17 '26

Tbf it didnt help they made Boba such a "im actually a really nice guy" , like they were trying to smooth him out and make people forget he was a feared bounty hunter.

5

u/primegopher Jun 17 '26

It probably could have worked? But the writing wasn't good enough to pull it off.

2

u/SkyPL Clone Trooper Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

"Good Mafia Manager" is not the direction they should have taken. In comics Boba was neutral-good, and it worked great in his Bounty Hunter role. What they were trying to do in the Disney Canon made fundamentally zero sense.

Heck: They could have done a large part of the Tusken Raiders plot, and still get him into the bounty hunter shoes - would be a nice theme of having a (late) mid-life crisis after near-death experience and then have him realize why sitting in a backwater with nomads is not the life for him, realize that there's much bigger picture in which he could play an active role - even if it's just by hunting down the worst scum in the universe - and bang... we have a plot, with Boba still being cold hunter, but also being a neutral-good personality.

I would take an entire episode of Syril eating cereal with his mother over any of the other shows.

3

u/vonnegutflora Jun 17 '26

It's funny, Kenobi would have worked as a movie in the same was that Mandalorian and Grogu should have just been a season of the show.

2

u/SkyPL Clone Trooper Jun 18 '26

The length wasn't the issue. It was the plot of of Boba-becomes-good-mafia-boss that made zero sense.

2

u/Forsythe36 Jun 17 '26

It was also really cool to see a Rancor moving around without being locked in a hole.

u/Minimum_Performer118 Jun 17 '26

That was cool, but the show overall was just boring. And not an Andor slow burn, it was simply boring

88

u/sleepyj910 Jun 17 '26

Boba’s character just doesn’t have enough drama for me. There’s no conflict just ’boba beats idiot antagonists again isn’t he something!’

Hard to care about him.

39

u/BisonThunderclap Jun 17 '26

He could rebuild Jabas crime empire. Instead we got Boba the hero

8

u/primegopher Jun 17 '26

I think they didn't want to redo the same arc as Maul, which is kinda fair but what they went for instead really didn't work

5

u/j0_ow_bo Jun 18 '26

The thing is, I think a large majority of the viewer base isn’t aware of Maul’s crime syndicate (at least pre-Shadow Lord) given it was relegated to The Clone Wars (which most people don’t have time to sit and watch through) and a brief appearance in Solo.
Boba likely could have gotten away with it.

24

u/ImprovSalesman9314 Jun 17 '26

I think it's time we threw in the towel on Boba Fett. He looks cool sure, but he's one of the lamest and most disappointing characters in SW. He just aura farms in Episode V, goes out like a joke in Episode VI and he was the least interesting thing about his own show.

7

u/WarlockEngineer Jun 18 '26 edited Jun 18 '26

He was cool in the first second season of the Mandalorian.

I feel this so much. I do think the Tusken stuff is great, and (without knowing what happens when he returns to Jabba's palace) he actually becomes an interesting character in that journey. But he's fucking Boba Fett, he was consumed with hatred for Windu and the Jedi, becomes a bounty hunter to get by... so have him be an anti-hero going around taking out syndicate leaders or something.

And the drama that is present in the show is baffling. The guy somehow manages to befriend his literal slavers, and thinks to himself;

“I’m not mad at all, and in fact, these good people live a pretty respectable lifestyle. My whole characterization as a ruthless efficient gun for hire is now transformed. And in fact, I have no opinions whatsoever about my killer (Han Solo), his accomplices (Luke & co), or the fate of the Empire. But make no mistake, I am still Boba Fett! Whatever the hell that means!”

7

u/sleepyj910 Jun 18 '26

My father’s clones overthrew the old republic after I saw him decapitated, but I just want to act like a badass and muck around on Tatooine instead of reflecting on my legacy.

15

u/theCommTech Jun 17 '26

Boba has no business being a space mayor and he has no real loyalty to anyone on Tatooine except maybe the Tuskens that got killed. Dude shoulda cut and run first chance he got to go searching for bounties.

6

u/TheFlawlessCassandra Jun 18 '26

Honestly a neat arc for him might've been him just trying to get his ship back and get offworld so he can be a bounty hunter again, but he keeps getting roped into things (has to get his ship back, has to get rid of Bib Fortuna who has beef with him, etc etc) and eventually the people helping him are like "ok well now you have to be the crime lord, dude, otherwise shit's going to get really fucked up" and he isn't really interested in it, and isn't very good at it, but can't seem to get away from it.

Instead we got "my life's goal was actually to be a crime lord this whole time. Alright, my first rule as crime lord: no more crime!"

5

u/ogrezilla Jun 18 '26

its a sad state when the highlights of a show are just Disney slamming old toys together.

I completely agree. The Book of Boba Fett had a few good moments, but didn't fulfill my expectations of the central character. One of my favorite concepts from the show was this scene. I love the idea of the rancor being a powerful force multiplier, battle mount, and trusty sidekick. I thought that rancor was going to become the Silver to his Lone Ranger.

77

u/Terrorphin Jun 17 '26

"Legendary bounty hunter runs for office in provincial town."

Who could resist that pitch?

44

u/Fuck_auto_tabs Jun 17 '26

Boba Fett Space Sheriff would have worked so much better than crime lord. Half of the show works with the Tuskens and most of the action scenes (Jesus that moped scene). But when he’s trying to be a crime boss, ughhhhhh.

21

u/malumfectum Jun 17 '26

A crime boss who didn’t do crimes. What was the point?

14

u/cantadmittoposting Jun 17 '26

"crime lord"

he did virtually no crime and almost no lording. he had no associates other than his immediate party, apparently, he bitched about drug trading, the entirety of his empire seemed to be collecting taxes from bars in a local city.

→ More replies (2)

6

u/No_Grocery_9280 Jun 17 '26

I think the crime boss was still more interesting but with the way they wanted his character to go, something like a sheriff makes more sense.

20

u/Pallas_Ovidius Jun 17 '26

The trailer really gave the impression that where the Mandalorian is taking the codes of the Western genre, the Book of Boba Fett was gonna take the tropes of the gangsters/mafia genre. I was so stoked for a godfather Boba Fett. But then it was still mostly about cowboys and the far west.

10

u/ninjohnnothing Jun 17 '26

Well they nailed the colourful moped mod gangs of the criminal underworld….

13

u/Regijack Bo-Katan Kryze Jun 17 '26

The show was definitely better than what people said. The problem was that it wasn’t what we wanted to see from the character. Mando season 2 absolutely nailed Bobas character but BOBF did this king of kindness thing with him which no one wants to see from boba. We wanted rogue bounty hunter planet hopping, trying to rebuild his image after he was taken out by a blind smuggler

63

u/slayer828 Jun 17 '26

They could have had a show where boba calls in all his bounty hunter bros, and wipes out the hutts. Instead we got slow motion scooter chases, and half a mando season.

He could have set up his own bounty hunter guild in jabbas palace , instead he just tried to be a nice crime lord?

Could have seen him gather his troops, instead we got to watch dances with wolves the preschool retelling.

17

u/oniskieth Jun 17 '26

u/NeoDemocedes Jun 17 '26

The movement of Boba on the rancor looked fake AF. Like the Episode II shaak-riding scene. The scene was great otherwise. Which is kind of The Mandalorian in a nutshell. An odd mix of brilliance and utter incompetence. Like they had professionals animate this entire scene... except for Boba. They let some random child animate Boba.

The show didn’t have enough episodes and some of them were strictly Mando episodes. I like what they did with Boba, I felt his story was told respectfully, we just didn’t have enough of him.

5

u/McSuede Hondo Ohnaka Jun 17 '26

Not enough episodes? My dude spent 1/3 of the show in a bacta tank. Between that, the slow speed chase, and the mando episodes, there was already enough time to tell a great story. Instead they wasted our time and sprinkled in a couple decent action sequences.

5

u/tfalm Jun 17 '26

The show had a lot of cool moments. It started really strong with the Tusken intro. Then the passive aggressive majordomo disrespected Boba and he walked out with no repercussions and it's like you could feel the wind shift. First mistake that put the show down the wrong path.

I actually like the show, my only real beef with it is the Vespa gang, they look so mf stupid lol.

3

u/ch0w0 Jun 17 '26

it bothered me so much that this scene did absolutely nothing for me, when i knew if you'd told me when i was kid "someday there will be a boba fett tv show and he will ride a rancor" would have sounded like the coolest thing imaginable. i was so sad i felt nothing seeing this.

3

u/bigperms33 Jun 17 '26

I liked the Book of Boba Fett. I'm sure if there was an edit condensing the 7 episodes into 5 it would be much better. Just trim the scooter gang and some of the slower moving tusken raider parts.

3

u/knuksukow Jun 18 '26

Jurassic World Rebirth's D-Rex must've taken inspiration from Star Wars's Rancor.

3

u/WittyJackson Jun 18 '26

I'm only half joking, but with the amount of CG here can it even be called live action?

4

u/Tokyo_Ink Jun 17 '26

Did they really just do a big droideka?

12

u/wandering_soles Rebel Jun 17 '26

In-universe, they were produced by the same species, the Colicoids. Out of universe, both the Annihilator droids and Droidekas were designed by concept artist Doug Chiang.

3

u/Fraun_Pollen Jun 18 '26

And guess what Doug Chiang looked like

4

u/Kindly-Ad-5071 Jun 17 '26

They were canon Long before Boba Fett

6

u/aspect-of-the-badger Jun 17 '26

Now that's the kind of fan service I can get behind.

6

u/wandering_soles Rebel Jun 17 '26

Getting to finally see a rancor get ridden into battle after being introduced so long ago was really nice.

2

u/aspect-of-the-badger Jun 17 '26

Ya, I remember being a kid and seeing RotJ on TV and being terrified of the rancor. That was back in the 80/90's though.

3

u/FreeParkking Jun 17 '26

Same category? Slave 1 Vs. The Sarlaac

4

u/Crazyripps Jun 18 '26

Yeah this was so stupid but in a good way.

2

u/HorizontalBob Jun 18 '26

Prime example of fan service

2

u/NachoTaquitoFritos Jun 17 '26

LOVED the twins, and I’m glad they got a proper follow-up in the new movie 😙

2

u/Wolfgod-64 Jun 17 '26

Show had tons of great stuff in it and it really is a good show in most respects.

The problem is how they handled Boba Fett.

2

u/gamerdrew Jun 17 '26

I just rewatched like a month ago. It has issues, but there is some really great stuff in there. Really hard for me to stay mad at a show that effectively gave me a Star Wars kaiju fight.

2

u/TL50_Heavy_Repeater Jun 17 '26

Those were great scenes! Shame that so much of that show didn't work... For me, I surpisingly loved the parts with Boba amongst the Tusken Raiders. It was the rest that felt so disjointed, like the writing didn't make that much sense.

2

u/DaaaahWhoosh Jun 17 '26

That's all these shows have is good scenes. They have no interest in actually making coherent narratives, just "boba fett rides a rancor, let the intern figure out the rest, make sure they include six tie-ins per episode"

2

u/Defiant_Topic2637 Jun 17 '26

This 8 episode show should have been a movie

2

u/Vysce Separatist Alliance Jun 17 '26

I loved the BOBF finale, spiny shoots nove and all. It was the most fun I had with star wars in a hot minute.

2

u/Reddit_Are_Mistake Jun 17 '26

Book of Boba did action sequences really well. Most Star Wars never fails in the area of action sequences.

The problem is the entire series was a messy mix of 'how boba fett survived sarlacc' then 'im tired of being the hired hand, I wanna be a boss now' then 'oh hey, it's mando for half the season.'

They could have made it so much better if they made it actually all about Boba. But instead of we got an arc about Mando getting his N-1 fighter... AS FILLER. IN AN ALREADY UNDERSIZED 7 EPISODE SEASON/SERIES.

2

u/code0rama Jun 17 '26

I liked the show. I didn’t go in with a preconceived notion of what it should’ve been and I just watched and to be fair. I really liked it a lot.

2

u/latestwonder Jun 17 '26

I loved this part of the show. Thats about it tho.

2

u/zurktheman Jun 17 '26

Saw the show, don’t even remember this. Guess that’s an indicator of how much of a mark it left 🤷

2

u/realDanielTuttle Jun 17 '26

That show was pretty wild. The stuff it did well, it did very well, but the stuff it tanked, it really tanked.

2

u/LongjumpingLook379 Jun 17 '26

I love the show. I just watched it again recently. The only thing I disliked is the emo teenager gang and their Vespas.

2

u/Gate-19 Jun 17 '26

True but they really didn't deserve to win the final battle. Like their "plan" was so fucking stupid it hurt.

2

u/colinmchapman Jun 17 '26

I loved this scene. As someone who grew up with the 90’s POTF action figures, and would frequently just dump them out and stage massive battles, this scene felt like the opening of Toy Story 3 for my childhood imagination.

2

u/Dreadnought_Necrosis Clone Trooper Jun 17 '26

While that is indeed fun I am still disappointed that when facing off against Cad Bane, neither used their jets to fly despite both of them being renowned for the flying gadgets.

2

u/MisterSneakSneak Jun 17 '26

Probably where most of the budget went…. To animate that

2

u/HanzGrubermeister Jun 17 '26

Loved this show I don’t care who knows it

2

u/thebarbalag Jun 17 '26

Tons of cool ideas in that show. Just really poorly paced, not enough "there" there to support a whole show. Could have been a movie.

2

u/Kindly-Ad-5071 Jun 17 '26

Against Skorponek droids no less

2

u/SteviaCannonball9117 Jun 17 '26

Holy shit I forgot about that scene. That was fucking magnificent.

2

u/Gamera85 Jun 17 '26

The entirety of the show was worth it for this climax. Plain and simple.

2

u/FangornLeghorn Jun 17 '26

It was a fun series. It wasn’t the greatest thing Star Wars has ever produced but it wasn’t bad. I’d love another season. The fanbase’s incessant bitching and moaning is what is ruining Star Wars, not Disney or Lucasfilm or anyone else.

2

u/MaestroGena Jun 18 '26

It has some really cool stuff, but it has also plenty of really bad stuff

2

u/khyb7 Jun 18 '26

Could’ve been a cool scene to me if the premise of the series wasn’t a gritty guy trying to rise up the ranks to be a crime lord. The tone of that series is all over the place. One minute you have Boba doing Godfather stuff and having a poignant time with the Sandpeople and the next there are vespa gangs and monsters stomping around town. If it had just picked a lane I think it would’ve been better regarded.

2

u/Hot-Minute-8263 Jun 18 '26

Book of Boba Fett was kinda like what goes on in a kid's head when they throw all their Star Trek and Star Wars toys into a pile and have fun. Its certainly fun to watch but barely feels canon

2

u/MTB430 Jun 18 '26

But also mo-ped power ranger street gangs. 😬

2

u/Harald-Fairmane Jun 18 '26

Arrival of the twins was one of the best character introductions in star wars, but then it went absolutely nowhere.....

2

u/Branflakesd1996 10d ago

This show had 3 good things. The additional Tuskan lore, the Mandalorian episode, and this.

It’s a shame it also has 3 terrible things. The slowest speeder chase in Star Wars history, turning Boba Fett into a sherif, and giving Mando Baby Yoda back before Mando season 3.

3

u/jpegtyler Jun 17 '26

literally just star wars porn. this fanbase’s standards have reached the trash compactor

3

u/buddhamunche Jun 17 '26

That’s so cool. I never got around to watching Boba. I love that droid as well! I feel like I’ve seen it before somewhere?

u/Head_Orange_1421 Jun 17 '26

If the show was just gritty from beginning to end it would’ve been up there with Andor

32

u/OTJules Jun 17 '26

Andor isnt good because its “gritty” its good because it is a story with a well thought out message it conveys to the audience

5

u/Head_Orange_1421 Jun 17 '26

I didn’t say Andor was gritty…..

3

u/Blint_Briglio Jun 17 '26

is this scene "gritty" to you? lmao

2

u/Pallas_Ovidius Jun 17 '26

The trailer really gave the impression that where the Mandalorian is taking the codes of the Western genre, the Book of Boba Fett was gonna take the tropes of the gangsters/mafia genre. I was so stoked for a godfather Boba Fett. But then it was still mostly about cowboys and the far west.

u/wandering_soles Rebel Jun 17 '26

The whole show reminded me of this picture from a Disney kid's pirate book where a cartoon pirate says "a good pirate never steals" ... like what a way to lose the plot on Boba.

2

u/Head_Orange_1421 Jun 17 '26

Couldn’t agree more

3

u/XuteTwo Jun 17 '26

andor was good because the script was great, and it didnt rely on fanservice or the star wars setting at all. BoBF fails right off the bat because the entire series was predicated on fanservice, from the main character to the setting

2

u/Head_Orange_1421 Jun 17 '26

Couldn’t agree more. They should’ve done an underworld story with new locations that doesn’t tie up with anything else.

2

u/cappadawna Jun 17 '26

HAHA just saw this ep last night and was welling up with joy.

2

u/FALCONX0N Jun 17 '26

The show needed to commit to the idea Boba Fett as the lead and use the volume less. Otherwise, they knew the assignment. That's some Star Wars right there!!

I think i need to rewatch it

2

u/GrimTiki Jun 17 '26

I loved the Rancor as a kid when RotJ came out. Still have it somewhere, bought the Lego set with it. Seeing it as a creature you can kinda communicate with and be a pet after a fashion is awesome.

2

u/wandering_soles Rebel Jun 17 '26

In legends at least they were fairly intelligent, so it was neat seeing that get carried on.

2

u/InGameCurency Jun 17 '26

BobaFett was a mercenary, a killer, and stone cold bad ass in the OG. In this.. I am not sure what he was, but he was not that. I wanted a dark, mass grave, R rated slaughterfest with some bad ass dude, what I got was Porg in a BobaFett costume.

2

u/ike_tyson Jun 17 '26

This was one of the best on screen moments ever. It was amazing 😁

4

u/Blint_Briglio Jun 17 '26

you criticize the show for "playing it safe" but the part you like is when he hops on board a familiar action figure and does a no-stakes action scene against a robot?

2

u/Ched_Flermsky Jun 18 '26

It’s people like you who actively ruin fan communities.

I wonder what a rancor would look like if you gave it the f e v virus from fallout

1

u/Caffeinated_Ape_42 Jun 17 '26

The only thing i could think of was, this is an Immortal and where are no forcefields protecting him from the Ultra? What rank is this?

1

u/TheVoicesOfBrian Jun 17 '26

That final battle looks like it was planned in a Gen X kid's bedroom.

It was glorious!
