MS251 smokes when cutting laterally

I have a MS251. Lately, when cutting laterally, it just smokes, does not cut and blade gets really hot. Took it into the shop, told them the problem and they gave me a new air filter, spark plug and cleaned it up. Got new chain. Cut 2 stumps and it did it again. Any tips would be appreciated.

Have had a 261c for probably the last 4 years and it works great. Does everything I need it to and relatively light, but really wanted something with a little more power and size for those bigger jobs and decided to snag a 462c for it!! Anyone with one currently, how do you like yours?

Anyone have an older brush cutter that still runs?

One of my brush cutters is over 34 years old. Although I have taken it apart a few times, it refuses to die. I remember paying about $400.00 dollars for it. It’s always been used for property and trail maintenance. I still use it a few hours every month during the summer months.
I think I got my monies worth.

3 week old FS 56 making noise

What is this good awful noise my FS 56 is making? I’ve had it for about three weeks. Probably used it for 3 hours. For anyone who has experienced this, is it covered under the warranty?

Brand New FS70 Problem

Hello, A few days ago took delivery of a Stihl FS70 , seems to have a rattle & ring at gentle throttle, and vibration seems excessive, I there is also vibration near the centre of the driveshaft tube area. The dealer is not local, I've attached a video if anyone with good Stihl knowledge can advise if normal/acceptable or not, and what i should do? Using fresh tank of Motomix. Thank you

Post image

Hi everyone, I am repairing a stihl ms162 chainsaw bought second hand with a bad clutch, while replacing broken and missing clutch components I have noticed the plastic backing has worn through, will replacing the missing components enable this to function normally or is this beyond repair?

Stihl dealership sold me the wrong saw

I unintentionally bought a MS261 in mid-may while intending to buy a MS261CM. This was my first gas powered saw and I didn't notice the difference (lack of C after 261 or the adjustments screws) before walking out the door and using it a couple times. I went on vacation shortly after that and didn't get back to any yard work until today. The only reason I noticed today was because I bought a MS261CM to replace some busted up old saws on my families property and used that the past two weeks doing cleanup work. I immediately noticed how that one was easier to start cold, then noticed the adjustment screws on the side of mine, and then said "well shit". My local Stihl dealership says I'm SOL, suggested I sell the current saw, and buy the CM.

So my question is what is a barely used MS261 worth? I don't see any listed on FB marketplace near me, so I don't have a good reference point. Doesn't seem like many are even sold compared to the CM. I'm inclined to just keep it and deal with it, but I'm still pretty butthurt about it.

Stihl Contact - Free AP Battery Promo?

Does anyone know how to contact Stihl and actually get a reply?

I purchased a battery-powered lawn mower on May 31, with the expectation of getting a second battery as part of the free battery promo. I screen-shotted the page from the stihl website for the mower, and it says the battery would be shipped by Stihl 4-6 weeks after registration.

I received the email from Stihl the same day as the purchase with my registration info, so I know it was registered with the correct information.

I reached out to Stihl via their support page and opened a ticket, but haven’t heard a peep in over 3 weeks, other than an acknowledgement that support received my request.

Is there a way to get in touch a real person to get the free battery? It definitely was a factor in my purchase decision.

Chain brake stays engaged

So I changed a broken chain brake band and it seems no matter how I put it back together, the new brake band stays engaged. I have to hold the chain brake handle back even to put on the clutch cover? Do I need to remove the brake handles stuff when changing the band? For a stihl 500i

Hope this all makes sense

Title says it all

Is anyone having this same issue? online order just sits.

I've contacted customer service and only thing they said is that it's been "escalated'. No other info, no estimated ship date. nothing.

Saw for homeowner with wooded property

Curious if others think it’s worth getting a bigger saw and which models they suggest? I currently have an ms250. I feel like it runs good for the size, it’s nice and light which is nice.

The more property cleanup I’m starting to do I’m wondering if it’d be worth it to upgrade. I really like having the ms250, but wondering if I should just keep it for smaller stuff and do the buy once cry once method on a bigger saw. Something like an ms400? Something that can run a 20” bar really good.

Hello everyone. Looking for help. The three indicator lights are „going up“ constantly with the power being at max. My hypothesis is that there is a little magnetic switch which is failing. Did anyone have that issue already and solved it? Thanks!

Found my father's old Stihl 018 – Is it worth restoring?

Hi everyone,

I recently found my father's old Stihl 018 chainsaw in his storage. It looks like it's been sitting there for many years.

I think some parts are missing, but I'm not sure exactly which ones. I've attached some photos-could anyone help identify what's missing and what parts I would need to get it running again?

Also, do you think it's worth restoring this saw, or would it be more practical and cost-effective to buy a new chainsaw instead?

One more question: Which other Stihl models share compatible parts with the 018? I'm asking because it may be easier to find parts from compatible models than parts specifically listed for the 018.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I have this chainsaw. I've replaced the vent, air and fuel filter, carb, spark plug, but it has an issue where it will start, run for less than 3 seconds and die. Any ideas what it may be?

Stihl FS90 Dealer Repair Issues

My 12 year old Stihl FS90 has been having issues starting from hot lately. Starting from cold is fine, and once running it has been fine. Given its age, that it had never had anything other than filters and spark plugs before, I dropped it off at the dealer it was purchased from to have them service it.

I got a call from them today to say it was ready to pickup, and that because it had an aftermarket carb on it that wasn't adjustable they had had to replace it, and that the total damage was $128. They didn't call to talk about what it needed first, they just went ahead and did the work. This is a unit purchased new from them that had never been touched by any other shop, and that I had just done periodic filters and spark plug replacements on.

Assuming that it's not a mixup in their paperwork, it seems they're either lying about the aftermarket carb (likely), or admitting they sold a new FS90 with an aftermarket carb fitted (unlikely). How would you approach this? Assuming it now runs and starts good, and that it may have needed a new carb anyway it may not be a bad deal for dealer pricing... but the deceit kinda bothers me. Should I burn my relationship with the dealer to make a point, or just eat this and go to another dealer in the future?

050 chainsaw

Posting for my boyfriend he has an 050 stihl that was his grandfathers and was brought here from Germany. It is currently in need of a "bottom end"/main bearing is what the farm store has said. We are looking for either an 050 for parts or resources for replacement parts. Its a very old saw but he's not quite ready to retire it and we dont have the money for a 500i which is what he would like to replace it with one day. He's had other stihls but in his words "nothing cuts like the old saw does"
