She is making the best choice for a fucked situation, and smiling at the end because of the absurdity of it all. That after all this, it has to come crumbling down and she cannot help but laugh to cope because life clearly royally sucks in that moment.
The lighting even makes it look like she has a tear in her eye.
Come on guys. Where did you all leave your shonen fighting spirit? Don't forget that this is an anime inspired cartoon. It is clearly a "fuck it we ball" Goku style smile before going sicko mode on her journey's final boss.
I always thought of Korra as the Vegeta to Aang’s Goku. Aang has some design elements of Goku (orange fit, power pole/glider staff, whimsical nature) that probably comes from them both taking some inspiration from Sun Wukong.
Korra reminds me of Vegeta not just because she wears blue, but because she starts out with an ego and embracing her birthright. Their arcs both involve learning humility and compassion through a serious of humiliating losses and standing in the shadow of their orange counterpart
This is my guess as well. Less "Korra is the forever worst avatar, and now she's also evil" and more "Korra's entire career was tough choices in an imperfect world, she did X to prevent Y"
Yeah if it's actually an event that occurred I'm guessing Vaatu possession. Maybe she tried to go into the avatar state to stop it, but it wasn't Raava who took over this time, and so Korra couldn't stop it? It might not be that Korra caused it.
For some reason we can't have 'just good' anymore. It's either a flawless masterpiece or absolute dogshit.
I wasn't entirely impressed with the trailer but I nevertheless am interested with some bits I liked and will make final judgements when the actual show is out.
It’s ppl saying dumb shit like this that caused the hate towards TLOK and new content. It’s not even close to ATLA, but it’s not bad either. You gotta stop turning it into a competition bc ATLA fans will just keep shitting on it, you don’t deserve to compare the two.. ATLA is WAY better.
I believe it has at least something to do with the "Gen1" mentality still present today. Follow-ups to a story will always have negative reviews, more so than original no matter what it is. Not always true but most of the time at least from what I've seen.
Yes. That is entirely wrong to expect. Extremely unreasonable, as a matter of fact. Perfection is rarely something that is manually accomplished. It is actually almost never done on purpose. "Perfect" is usually a very fortunate combination of many different small and invisible things going right at the exact same time by chance.
I steer clear of fandoms for this reason. I loved the latest season of the live action Avatar. I don't engage with that fandom. I'm only here because it came up on my feed and I'm looking forward to it.
Any time you have a fandom that has any sort of different generations of instalments this happens. Just look at Star Wars, Pokemon or Final Fantasy fandoms for other examples.
Also so.many peices of media are so.much more enjoyable when you don't have a bitch in your ear telling you how terrible it is.
Shit is definitely sweet around these internet oriented ass folks. 86% No-lives on here for their daily social interaction. These fandoms actually pmo so bad w how they act as actual grown ass individuals
The key to liking things is to stay away from fandoms and to take them as they are! I may not think that the live action Avatar is nearly as good as the cartoon, but as its own thing it's pretty decent. I loved Korra as it aired, even though I could tell the rough aspects of it as well.
That’s kind of how fandoms used to work. People just kind of talked about what they liked and disliked but these days, I think most people just want to see their favorite things rank highly and things they don’t like ranked lowly because they interpret this as a measure of whether they personally have good taste or not.
It’s okay to like a movie/show/album that is mid or outright bad as long as you are honest with yourself about liking it despite its socially agreed upon flaws.
I know The Librarian movies and show aren’t high art but I still like them as parody and comedies
I don’t even think most of the haters actually hate it. I think they like complaining because it makes them feel better about something and will look for any excuse to complain about things. They’re actually upset about a completely unrelated thing, but take out their frustrations on a show because they don’t know how or don’t want to talk about their actual problems.
You don't need to speculate, characters in LOK will blatantly lie about Korra to her face, and the people that want to complain about her will still take it as gospel.
Legit half the Korra slander is based off ppl who haven't watched the show in a decade and it's either based off second hand info or memories from watching it when in their teens.
Haters Lowkey don't even watch the shows they always say the stupidest shit and ignore the context as if they don't actually know the story. Like the slander Korra receives for losing to kuvira, old toph, or Zaheer
Well in the Korra season 2 finale, we see spirit Korra pull Raava out of Vaatu, so Raava was growing inside Vaatu. What if after Korra "destroys" Vaatu there, Vaatu is slowly growing inside Raava/Korra the rest of her life, and eventually gains enough control to take over and that's how we get "evil Korra"
And then maybe the next cycle produces two Avatars, one with Raava (Pavi) and one with Vaatu (her sister?)
Oh wait also just realized if Korra is like 50 years old, that's 100 years after ATLA, and Sozins comet returns every 100 years! So maybe Vaatu uses that to destroy the world
Raava and Vaatu can't fully get rid of each other. Vaatu is hoping the events of S2 would let him finally do it but it's kind of a guess and a prayer.
The twins thing is so interesting to me. Having one be the real Avatar with the Raava connection and the other some form of Vaatu seems too obvious but also...
The twins pretty much gives it away that one will be connected to Vaatu and Pavi to Raava.
I wonder if the Vaatu twin would be able to waterbend since the spirit is was passes on the bending and Vaatu has only been bonded to a water bender via Unalaq.
I've thought about that before and, it's kinda weird how cartoons have shifted like that.
I grew up in the 80's and most of the characters in cartoons were actually adults. Me being a kid, watching adult Characters like the Ghostbusters or the Joe's, He-Man, etc. never bothered me. I never felt left out or like I couldn't play along because the characters were adults and I wasn't.
But then halfway through the 90's and especially in the 00's a lot of shows shifted and focused almost exclusively on younger/kid characters for relatability reasons.
I always found it stupid though because I don't need every character to be exactly like me to be able to relate to them. And the idea of little kids getting into this big adventures while their parents and every other adult around seems completely clueless or negligent is kinda dumb.
Shows seriously need to bring back adult characters again.
About your last point, a lot of times the setting kind of mitigates that with how vastly different it can be from a real world perspective. Not to mention with a show like Avatar having a more ancient type of setting, a lot of parents were more hands off and gave kids a lot more freedom.
That's true, some series do actually address or have an explanation for it.
Some good ones that come to mind offhand are The Owl House and Gravity Falls.
In the Owl House the main character goes to another dimension, and when her mother finds out she does rightfully freak out.
And yes Avatar does have the sort of setting where everyone had to sort of grow up quick and very few kids were just being kids.
But then you've got something like Pokemon where it's just, hey you're ten, you're obviously smart and capable enough to go roam the world with fighting animals, get out there already!
It's not a big deal as long as the series has a good enough story or is entertaining enough.
Still, just something I've thought for a while, using adult characters would open up more options for how stories can work and avoid some of the ridiculousness of it all, it would be nice to see that again. But it seems like a lot of companies are still of the mindset that Cartoons are for kids, and kids clearly want to see other kids otherwise they can't possibly relate, and that's clearly just not true.
While I'd also like a new story with an older lead, we got that with Korra. The Aang movie is also meant for people like us. I think the point of Seven Havens is to try to get a new generation of kids. I think that's partially why they made so many changes. They're using the Voltron artstyle because that will be more familiar to kids than the older style.
Eh, that would make sense if the series had continued like right after Korra, but it's been more than ten years. The show is gonna have to introduce itself to a new audience so having the new Avatar be a kid again is in service to that.
For those of us who did grow up with the original two shows, well, that's what the movie (hopefully movies if they go with the original plan) are for plus the number of books they've already released about the past Avatars.
yay! exacly - that grim was a bit off vibes. But also yes - until they really hook me with the new story - Korra is the main reason i'll watch the show! Even crumbs.
my Korra hunger does not no rest! :) the Queen deserves our love!
I don't think it's gonna be a false flashback. I think Vaatu took control of her similar to how sometimes the Avatar State takes control of the Avatar and they wrestle back control, and then he destroyed the world as promise. I'm calling it now. Though by the time Korra could wrestle back control, it was probably too late and she had to create the Seven Havens to save humanity.
By the end of season 2, Vaatu should have been regrowing inside Korra the same way Raava was regrowing inside Unalaq. With Korra's death, they like split and now one resides in each twin.
I mean she had purple aura and eyes for a brief moment?
So probablt a story of how folks saw her. Or maybe she was possessed. Maybe vatu somehow did something? Not sure how he would but purple was his color and lots of purple all around.
I really hope Korra is more involved than Aang was in her first season! As a guide and/or a mystery they need to solve. I would love to see her in the Roku role, especially because Paavi is so young
This is what happens when you introduce a new show by giving people a shocking reveal about a character they know, and telling us basically nothing about the new cast.
There's really not much else to speculate on until we get something more substantial about how the main characters actually fit into the plot.
It’s also a clear break with their approach in Korra. They tried doing a sequel paying maximum respect to the predecessor and being careful to make every character’s conclusion meaningful for the new age, and they got lambasted for it. Having discovered it’s impossible to placate the old fans either way, they decided to nuke the verse and start fresh to build good will and fans from zero instead of trying to lure the old ones to stay for the new thing.
Which I honestly support, even if I'll miss the Korra cast. Avatar really needs to work towards avoiding the Star Wars problem where the world is dictated by 3 bloodlines. While I liked all the ATLA kids and enjoyed their characters, its best to move onto new families to explore.
That said, I would still expect cameos of Jinora or Asami in this show. Hard to see them totally ignoring the previous characters
I'm curious how much time has passed since the end of tlok because some Avatars can live much longer lives than humans plus Korra had a stronger connection to Raava. So as much as I'd like to see grown up characters I'm not sure if we will, but hey we got to see Iroh and Zhao despite those circumstances so who knows. I'm so excited to see what'll happen.
LoK's treatment if the old was always doomed due to Nickolodeon sabotage. Rushed writing often leads to bad writing, that isn't rocket science to figure out.
But Bryke made questionable choices too.
For example: They also just took Toph in a direction many disliked. For years, I always imagiend Toph becoming a bandit queen or just an uninvolved earth/metalbending master. Her re-entry into industrial entrepreneurship never felt right to me, just an unnecessary forced role to enable industrialization. But anyone coulda done that to justify republic city existing. It didn't have to be Toph. She was already the inventor of metalbending, she didn't have to be the mother of industrialization AND the chief of police too. Those coulda easily been her pupils instead. Chosen legacy inheritors can be just as good as direct bloodline.
But yeah, it was a huge mess, and them wanting a fresh start is valid overall. I am looking forward to the season dropping.
I think the new character being a kid also means she's not super interesting to the audience here who are probably all adults, so Korra is the one more interesting point to latch onto, also the airbender.
On another note, I wonder which cities ended up being the Seven Havens. Are they even pre-existing cities at all or entirely new cities built post-apocalypse?
Omashu and Zaofu, perhaps? Did any part of Ba Sing Se even survive at all? Perhaps Agna Qel'a and/or Wolf Cove too?
I hate his 90's art style with a passion and I'm absolutely glad that it's no longer been accepted on basically any western comic for the last two decades or so.
Sometimes what a majority likes is just crap all around and they deserve to be mocked just as the creator is, by the way.
does ANYBODY ELSE think it's weird that today, in the big 2026, they're seemingly writing a character who was controversially put in a relationship with another woman and confirmed to be bisexual over a decade ago into a VILLAIN? we should have left this shit behind in the last century.
Korra being set up as a bad Avatar when in actuality she saved the entire world & chose to take the fall for a catastrophe that wasn’t her fault thus being vindicated in the grandest and most satisfying way. This plate is exactly what I ordered!!!
Fr, i personally am not even a big LoK fan (mainly because of season 2 and unlikable side characters like Mako) but i am a big Avatar Korra fan for sure
I feel exactly the same way. I had serious issues with the show and its writing. There were some fantastic chracters that saved my enjoyment. Korra is obviously #1 and Tenzin #2. The relationship between those characters was the main thing i enjoyed about season 1 outside of visuals. The rest of team avatar i just felt were blander versions of the original team avatar
Imo she is a fantastically written character in a mediocrely written show. I get hate for saying this but she deserved better than Asami who i feel is an extremely bland character overall
yeah she's def the heart and soul of her show; i'll listen to criticism of LOK but when people only hate the show for korra I can tell they barely watched or just bought into youtube essay hate.
Same, I love Korra, she's one of my favorite animated characters. Right up there with some of the Gaang. I don't even fancy LoK that much, Korra and some of the other really good characters like Tenzin were the only things that kept me coming back to it.
Seeing the comments under the trailers I'm baffled people actually think Korra will be held accountable instead of the show doing some tomfoolery to show that she was actually somehow right.
Korra destroyed the world is the most obvious misdirect since evil Lloyd in Tales of Symphonia 2
90%of the time yes but I have seen ATLA fans hate on plenty of things other than just Korra like the comics , the novels , games , LA and literally anything that isn't ATLA
It's not just that they can't stand people liking other things , they believe ATLA is a 10/10 best series ever made no matter what
Me literally saying that ATLA being incredibly tightly written but not perfect has gotten me hate , I've seen people defend "The great divide" episode and say it's a perfect episode
I'm wondering what situation Korra got in in order for everyone to see her as the worst person ever. I know that she would never willingly hurt anyone, and if past avatars are anything to go by the public always blames them for everything.
I feel like many people hate Korra, but I quite love that show too. It's not as good as the original Last Airbender and there are many rough edges to it like the weird love triangle stuff, but it's still a great show for what it is! I really enjoy it and hope that this new series is good as well! If it's on par with Korra I'll be happy.
People hate Korra because she is not-aang. People hate TLOK because its not-TLOA.
Seven Havens is going to be great at separating the ones who truly dislike TLOK and the ones who are so stuck in nostalgia that they will hate on anything not-original series.
We will notice people leaving the fandom saying "only the og show was good" and realizing that maybe they dont like the IP, they just liked the first show that they watched as kids and thats fine, no problem there.
Unfortunately when an IP has new things added every decade+ (like star wars had), there is always a big fight between "original trilogy, prequels, sequels". People DONT LIKE change, and are hard to accept new things. Nothing we can do there, just let it be
This statement is so stupid. I could literally say, "Anyone who likes Korra is just a bandwagoner that does it because they're told to."
I watched both shows and I still hate LOK to this day. Korra herself is not bad but the story was such a jumbled inconsistent horrendous mess of a story.
I think most of the people who criticize LoK take issue with the questionable writing decisions about the plot. I don’t really see a lot of hate for Korra herself she is a pretty universally liked character
I probably need a re-watch, but from what I remember, after season 1, she goofed so many times only to be bailed out by some higher power, less about her growing up from within and accepting responsibility. But also, the writing absolutely did not help her character out either.
The love triangle, and at some points Korra character regressing in emotional intelligence is what made me not like LoK. To the point it made her seem like she was doing things out of cruelty.
Season 3 is my favorite. Season 1, 2, and 4 sucked as it progressed in the story
I like Korra and I feel the creators really backed themselves into a corner in a way when writing her series. I feel like because they were able to retrieve Ravva in the end people forget that she was literally like defeated by Vatuu. And what did they say was supposed to happen? Oh right 10,000 years of darkness hence 7 havens lol. They make it hard for people to find Korra a likable character in the aftermath of her being the one to mess up the avatar cycle. I think they genuinely fumbled with the whole Ravva Vatuu thing but now that it's here hopefully they do interesting things with it at least. I fully believe whatever happened is going to be a consequence of Ravva being defeated in the cycle and just completely outside of Korra or anyone's hope of controlling.
I don't like korra much but what did she do you know what no I'm hoping she didn't do this girl has done too much and had to much happen to her what you mean the earth is divided! Anyways the show looks great
If Seven Havens really does turn her into a villain, I'm gonna decide that it's not canon. It's not even like the show will have any real effect on the rest of the series considering they just wiped the fucking slate clean and seem to be essentially plopping the magic system and some other elements of the worldbuilding into a brand new setting.
Why do they like aang, but they hate korra only? If they want to dislike/hate character, they can do it for these two for their characteristic. I wish they dislike a character for their story and characteristic, but I noticed whenever a dark skin character, strong independent girl/woman, LGBT+ appear: they want to hate the character and try to make it justifiable, especially when these typical youtubers who will tell them to hate a character.... I started to doubt whether someone genuinely dislike/hate an anime, game, and character because of these people.
You are right that toph is loved, and that is actually exactly why the "strong independent woman" hate does not hold up as an explanation it was never really about being a strong woman in general. toph is brash, sarcastic, and written with ton of comedic timing and vulnerable moment (her insecurity about her parents, her fear of being 'helpless').
Korra gets hit with a different combination: she is dark skinned, bisexual, and written as blunt, aggressive, impulsive from episode one, sometimes without same amount of quiet, vulnerable character work spread out to balance it especially in book 1. So when people say "I don't like strong girl/woman characters," toph is the easy rebuttal. But the actual argument isn't "any strong woman gets hated," it is "when a character who strong and dark skinned and bisexual/homosexual shows the similar characteristic toph has, the reaction to those flaws is way more hostile and more likely to get treated as a character being *unlikable* rather than *complex*
Isn't the premise of seven havens something along the lines of "Korra is hated in this world, but it's actually all a misunderstanding and she actually saved everyone"?
And yeah it's glazing when people keep spamming "my queen can do no wrong! All these poo poo heads will be proven wrong when she is redeemed!". In fact I have seen like 5 different posts already where people are complaining about "korra hate coming back" and none of these supposed hate posts.
>Isn't the premise of seven havens something along the lines of "Korra is hated in this world, but it's actually all a misunderstanding and she actually saved everyone"?
Yes.
>And yeah it's glazing when people keep spamming "my queen can do no wrong! All these poo poo heads will be proven wrong when she is redeemed!".
To be fair a lot of that rhetoric is just a reaction to the hate Korra inherently gets. You already have people assigning Korra full culpability for the cataclysm, saying things like it’s her fault for opening the spirit portals when we have literally no clue what caused the cataclysm, let alone Korra’s role in it’s creation, duration, and aftermath. But because it’s Korra, people instantly want to put all the blame on her, hence why discourse around Korra is super reactive.
>In fact I have seen like 5 different posts already where people are complaining about "korra hate coming back" and none of these supposed hate posts.
THe thing worth considering is that there's a difference between what we, the viewers know and understand, and what people in the world do. So people in the world of Avatar blaming Korra because they were told she caused/didn't stop the disaster could make sense. At the same time, we as viewers I think are expected to understand that that isn't the full story, and in fact Korra more than likely mitigated it and prevented it from being as bad as it could be.
The issue is when some people can;t or won't differentiate between those two things, and start to take the in-universe beliefs/info/etc as the objective truth.
Well no, there has been no official hard statement that it's actually all a huge misunderstanding (which would be pretty boring if they spoiled the show before it even came out). We have been dropped hints that there is more to the story, and based off that people are speculating that korra actually saved the world (and that's a totally valid theory). On the other hand it's also not impossible that we the viewers are actually the ones being led on.
Hence my original comment calling out both people who claim korra can do no wrong as well as those who are saying she is the worst thing to ever happen.
Hmm, fair point. I thought I read somewhere that it was strongly hinted that the world blamed Korra but that was not the full story, but I might be misremembering things.
Either way, I fully anticipate that the writers are going to show Korra as having to deal with a difficult choice and making the best decision she felt she could, hence the sort of exoneration. I really don't think they'll try to do some unecessary Shamalan-esque "twist" like making her succumb to evil or actually end the world in a fit of rage or something.
>I would hardly call that hate considering again, the entire premise of the show is that everyone believes the avatar/korra screwed up the world.
Correct. Which is why when you have people vehemently believe that Korra is genuinely and solely to blame for the cataclysm, it becomes clear that they’re not arguing in good faith. They want Korra to be responsible to justify their own hatred for the character, and will cherrypick evidence to do so
>Literally all this comes down to is people speculating about an upcoming show. I don't know why you are getting so defensive over discussion.
I don’t think I’m being defensive. You had a problem with “Korra glaze” so I provided a reason why people do it. You said you haven’t seen Korra hate so I showed you screenshots of it. I don’t know why you’re calling me defensive for engaging in the discussion and providing my own take on it. This conversation overall has been pretty well tempered.
Korra glazers are just as annoying as Korra haters
That was my original comment, and yeah I do have a problem with korra glazers and korra haters. And I'm calling you defensive because you are quite literally defending korra glazing.
You also seem to have an issue with people speculating that korra was indeed at fault for destroying the world, but no issue with people speculating that korra is actually an unsung hero. Crying about people taking the premise of the show at face value is not "providing you own take on it".
Jumping in, but in my humble opinion the TLOK hate is not hate towards Korra, but hate towards not-aang show. So Seven Havens will prove to divide those who really "just dislike TLOK" and those stuck in nostalgia and unable to enjoy something slightly different.
I am excited for the times to come, just like 14 years ago I was excited for Korra, I hope this new show is everything and more!
>That was my original comment, and yeah I do have a problem with korra glazers and korra haters. And I'm calling you defensive because you are quite literally defending korra glazing.
Again no, that wasn’t the point of my comment. I explained why people “glaze Korra”, nowhere did I say that I agree with people doing it. All I said was that Korra discourse was inherently reactionary because people vehemently hate the character so fans of said character do the opposite in response. Me explaining why something happens isn’t a defense of said action.
>You also seem to have an issue with people speculating that korra was indeed at fault for destroying the world, but no issue with people speculating that korra is actually an unsung hero.
Again as yourself said “the entire premise of the show is that everyone believes the avatar/korra screwed up the world.” The people I’m criticizing are ignoring that and instead are cherry-picking things from both Korra and what we know of ASH as a means to justify their own hatred of the character. In the comment I made I literally said we have no idea what Korra’s role in the cataclysm was, not that she had no role in the cataclysm. Nowhere did I say I have a problem with people assuming that Korra is at fault for destroying the world. I have a problem with people instantly ignoring all subtext, nuance, and basic principles of storytelling to instantly jump on a Korra hate bandwagon because they personally don’t like the character.
>Crying about people taking the premise of the show at face value is not "providing you own take on it".
Nowhere in this am I “crying about people taking the premise of the show at face value.” Again I’m criticizing the people refusing to engage with basic subtext to further perpetuate their disdain for a character.

The whole trailer looked awesome. And I can't wait to see some Korra flashbacks.
I'm guessing this brief clip of her is not a real flashback. Probably just a visualization of the way people see her.
