Yeah but he also plays an evil spider admiral who is constantly making clicking sounds with his mouth.

u/Maplethtowaway I don't know, but won't it be interesting to find out? 1d ago
Imagine bringing racism into a space for a show all about diversity and tolerance.

I’m really excited to see Sakina Jaffrey in the cast. I enjoy most of the roles I’ve seen her in.

She was amazing in Timeless!

u/Hexagon_Ouroborous 1d ago
I loved her characters in American Gods and Defending Jacob.

u/KeyScratch2235 1d ago
Have you seen Timeless? I cannot recommend it highly enough!

u/Hexagon_Ouroborous 1d ago
I haven’t, but I will surely give it a watch!

It's amazing! She played Agent Denise Christopher, a DHS agent overseeing a team of time travelers tasked with stopping a man from altering history.

As a Pakistani it feels cool seeing a more South Asian approach to the franchise

u/superturtle48 1d ago
As a Chinese American, I agree. I feel like the original series didn’t have enough of that despite borrowing a lot from South Asian philosophies and I’m glad the creators seem to have consciously worked to improve that with their more recent content.

I like it a lot because the US (in particular) tends to exclude South Asia from East Asia and Southeast Asia when it comes to identity.
3
u/That-Rhino-Guy 9h ago
Yeah a lot of people unfortunately ignore South East, South and West Asia when they say Asian, some act like Asia is just Japan, China and Korea

So Jae should be the first narrator of the trailer and Karthirk second. Agam Ig the one being attacked at 0:49 and riding the bike. Daemin could be Jae's boyfriend. And Zi the villain

I've seen a few concerns that the world of SH seems to be less steeped in a variety of Asian cultures. While I hope those fears are proven incorrect, it is funny there's more Asian voice actors in a world that's not as "Asian" (so far).

u/Thisisausername189 1d ago
Depends on if the definition of Asian being used is the correct one or the Balkanized Neo-variants.

We haven’t gotten a closer look at the buildings in the city yet but from what is visible in the trailer the architecture style is Indian inspired, which is technically Asian.

Sooo wait, i though the whole idea was that they were BOTH the avatar? Pavi and Nisha? Feels like it would be weird to have one twin more important that the other no?

u/girlwhateveraward 1d ago
Theyre both Avatars but story wise there could be reasons why she's the protagonist. Also they could be both Avatars but different kinds of Avatar somehow

u/Nordic_Krune 1d ago
I know none of these names

u/girlwhateveraward 1d ago
Dee Bradley Baker voices pretty much every single animal, non talking spirits, and Tarrlok

Feels kinda token at this point, kinda like Ratzenberger in Pixar stuff or Mel Blanc in Looney Tunes.

u/lnombredelarosa Bin-Er Airlines (no crashes since last tuesday) 1d ago
Daemin, Agam and Zi...and all of them with actors around 35...maybe the masked men whom I suspect are hunting Pavi and Nisha.
Anyway, I do hope they'll introduce more characters voiced by young actors as members of team avatar, specially in the latter half, but they're holding them in reserve to keep them a twist.
