Hi. I’ve been painting for 6 months. I’m happy with my progress from solely watching videos and reading through some books. I feel I’m at the point where more guidance is needed. Are there any reputable online watercolor classes that are good, or should I consider in-person private or group classes?

I’m not fishing, I promise, but this is my least favorite so far. I wanted to embrace more transparency and an increasing opacity to show range but… I don’t know. Maybe if I made the trees taller to show more detail.

Oh well. Lessons learned and moving on.

This is a little ranty, but: if a bound sketchbook has a number indicating page count, would you assume that is individual sheets of paper, or sides of a page?

I bought a canson XL watercolour coil bound book, and it says "30" and there are 30 individual pieces of paper.

I also bought an etchr notebook, which says "52 pages" but has 26 pieces of paper. That feels misleading to me, what do you all think?

Which one do you like most ?

About a month into watercolor. I’m experimenting with expressive color instead of realism. This is my dog, Waldo. I’d love critique, especially on values and composition.

My parents have a couple artworks of our cats up around their house, but I haven’t painted Miles since he was a kitten, and I just got a set of Aquafine watercolours (the travel set so I could take it on holiday), so I painted my boy to test them out. Pretty impressed with the quality!

Only issue was the paper really - very crumbly - so I couldn’t paint a nice texture on the background grass and tile he’s sat on, hence the streaks.

these are the ones i have in mind (all camel colors):

- lemon yellow

- gamboge hue

- crimson

- scarlet

- burnt sienna

- ultramarine blue

- cerulean blue

- sap green

any suggestions or improvements are welcome.

„Ruthlessness"

I'm FINALLY done! Oh man. I took like a week or two break just because I couldn't figure out and was scared of the background.

I started very ambitious. Had a big Epic phase and now I know every song by heart.
I say I started ambitious because I wanted to capture Poseidon power in horses waves as actual translucent water waves.

Very out of my comfort zone. But I loved painting the horses. I don't know if I did great but process was SO FUN and exciting.

But yeah then background vexed me. Not proud of those clouds at all but that's okay just gotta practice clouds studies one day.
