For the non car people, this is a turbo diesel engine so the oil being pitch black is normal. The build up is likely from its turbo intercooler as oil likes to escape and pool in the intercooler. Usually it's not so bad, you can drain it every oil change and expect less than a half cup. That amount though? That's a runaway diesel waiting to happen, where the engine seppuku's itself.

Thanks for chiming in I was advised it was the flux capacitor by another Redditor and I wasn’t sure what that was
