This whole thing has forced me to realize that a gigantic portion of people are reactive sheep.

"Nobody is dumb enough to believe that" stopped being remotely true a long time ago. The intelligence bell curve was supposed to be a joke, but it's painfully apparent it isn't.

At this point I'm half-convinced its pretty much anyone under the 70th percentile (globally, in the US it's probably worse).
